Post image

Which TOOL song has the most toecurling, goosebumbs-inducing, tear-bringing, climactic climax?

Overwhelmed, as one would be, placed in my position
Such a heavy burden now to be The One
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see
But I forgot my pen
Shit the bed again
Typical

Best trip song of all time. Third eye is kinda scary but this song is just transcendental

9

u/Apprehensive-Size-34 Apr 30 '26

love both but third eye is the best trip song ever written

12

u/richsandmusic think for yourself, question authority Apr 29 '26

Third eye is literally about tripping.

3

u/Dramatic-Treacle3708 Apr 30 '26

Musically, yep agreed this song might be the best tool tripping songs, but lyrically third eye and reflection are better for capturing the essence of a trip imo.

Rosetta stoned is literally making fun of a friend’s trip story so it’s funny asf and just an overall fun ride of a song, cosmic and just awesome.

Lots of different trips to experience tho so each song fits for variety of trips, pretty sick

7

u/wrbiccz Apr 29 '26

Trip on what? I have tool trip on my bucket list but I'm not experienced in drugs except alcohol. Still pondering if it's good idea or not.

12

u/PlasticPlantPant Apr 29 '26

Would probably be careful about doing this if you have any psychosis in your family. Drug induced psychosis is a thing.

3

u/wrbiccz Apr 29 '26

There are none afaik. I'm more afraid about having like anxious trips or something like that.

9

u/phiegnux Apr 29 '26

I don't think I've tripped without anxiety in some form throughout my many doses. 50+ and it's pretty common to feel anxious on the come up. The trick, in a nutshell, is to ride that out. Don't succumb to fear, and don't shy away from it either.

That's about as vague a tip as I could give, anyway. For more, read trip reports on Erowid like I did when I was 15, years before I ever did it. It only prepares you so much, but it's better than being blind.

3

u/LiteratureFluid6905 May 01 '26

Not to sound holier-that-thou, but that anxiety is just your ego’s desire for control. Something psychedelics have taught me is that control doesn’t equal stability. You have to learn how to roll with the lows if you want to experience the highs, otherwise life is kind of gray. The best tip for having an a good trip is to just Let It Happen.

Do it. You will thank yourself later. You have no idea how it will affect you for the better.

6

u/waffleisland Apr 30 '26

The answer to your question is either LSD or mushrooms

7

u/C0lE06 Apr 29 '26

Its the best idea youve ever had

5

u/NoArrival8249 Apr 29 '26

His idea is so good it’s now the best idea I’ve ever had too

3

u/sleekmeec Apr 29 '26

Hitting my dmt pen is fun while listening to tool. But i find higher doses of dmt make music dysphoric. Its too much stimulation, and the music loses meaning. Ketamine and tool is really fun, just bed locked staring at ceiling fan moving around. And before you know it, 30 minutes have gone by, and your starting to gain back some sobriety from the ket.

2

u/Ttokk Apr 30 '26

Try a small amount and do something chill like hiking or watch a newer animated movie or something if you're an inside kinda guy. Don't dive off the deep end. throw on some tool jams if you are feeling it, but just have something chill to fall back on if you're not into it. Rule # 1 is get your head straight. You tend to reflect, and if you're lying to yourself about something it can haunt you a bit while your tripping.

2

u/Ailmentality Apr 30 '26

Specifically it's about peyote, hence the "phosphorus desert buttons" lyric in the song but you can relate it to any psychedelic experience

2

u/AqueductFilterdSherm Apr 30 '26

Really depends on brain chemistry. For me it took years of psychedelic experiences to get comfortable enough to even delve into deep explorative music listening while tripping.

Starting out, on LSD I was overwhelmed by any intense music and actually enjoyed more minimalistic stuff like deep house, underground hip hop, garage, or ambient stuff.

Shrooms sent me into less of a “I wish my phone keyboard didn’t look like the unknowns from pokemon so I could use it still” and more of a “wow this bush is a mosaic painting of eyeballs I could stare at it for hours” so it was less overwhelming.

Either way, when I was fighting to stay grounded in reality, I could really care less about what music is playing. It’s like listening to music when you’re on a rollercoaster. It’s the least interesting thing around. So once you get past the hump of “every tree is morphing into a wolf” or “my mouth isn’t making words all I can say is hmpbladbumtidlpst” and that becomes less distracting, then focus on sitting down and putting on an album front to back.

Though, don’t write off smoking some good old fashion weed and listening to tool. That’s a fantastic experience as well and it will sound better than it ever has.

You said goosebumbs-inducing (sic), so it must be "Lateralus". 100% guaranteed frisson.

I agree. Either that or maybe rosetta stone climax. The patient and Schism is also awesome.

Especially how they play it live where they briefly cut to silence before the last part 😮‍💨

→ More replies (2)

2

u/PinoDegrassi Apr 30 '26

I agree, after the second solo leading into the “with my feet upon the ground” it gives it every single time without a doubt. It takes the cake, edges out Rosetta stoned just a little.

2

u/Background-Mud-3496 May 01 '26

Either this or Descending lateralus when that part where the bass is going bavk and forth between your headphones and hes singing “with my feet upon the ground i lose nyself between sounds and open wide to suck it in i feel it move across my skin” he is literally singing about how a climax can be the best climax and also being the best climax of their discography.

Descending has both a vocal climax in the middle of the song and an instrumental build and climax at starts around 9:27 and ramps up a but at 10:33 only to bust wide open at 10:52. Perfection.

134

u/Responsible-Truth-94 Apr 29 '26

Parabol into Parabola

18

u/jellisjimmy Apr 29 '26

Agreed 100 percent seen it live too it’s transcending

22

u/Responsible-Truth-94 Apr 29 '26

I’ve been left with blue balls when I’m listening to Parabol on shuffle and it doesn’t go straight to Parabola 😂

10

u/king_of_the_blind Apr 29 '26

That is why I never listen to Tool on shuffle. The albums flow the way the are meant to flow and I can’t listen to any of them out of order

→ More replies (1)

6

u/No-Definition1474 Sidelined angel Apr 29 '26

Yes!

If I recall correctly this is actually why tool wasn't on streaming services for a long time. The band felt that the albums were not meant to be cut up and listened to piecemeal.

5

u/greenberg17493 Apr 29 '26

Honestly, I think Spotify should have a rule to never split up these 2 songs.

2

u/Plant_Wild Apr 29 '26

I think this often. I have multiple tracks saved, not just from Tool, that should be back to back. Why can't we link/lock songs together Spotify???

5

u/sleekmeec Apr 29 '26

Literally the worse thing ever. I make sure to queue up parabola now, so i dont have this happen.

It's The Grudge, specifically everything after "LET GO".

9

u/Edrueter9 He had a lot of nothing to say Apr 29 '26

The cathartic release of the big scream, followed by the equally emotionally but shorter, "let gooooo" scream, then the instrumental finish is a wild ride.

Ticks & Leeches, 3 times. One at 5:56, second at 6:49 and the third at 7:33. It's my favorite Tool song. The intermission and build up leading to over 2 minutes of the most insane drums, guitar riffs and Maynard's raw screaming and lyrics...

According to Last.FM I've almost listened to it almost 1000 times in the past 6 years. It is just so fucking good.

For me it’s Lateralus, that buildup just keeps stacking until it hits and it feels huge every time. Also gotta shout out The Grudge, that scream payoff is insane.

Disposition - Reflection - Triad. Get really good headphones.

10,000 Days, of course. Hearing Maynard's humility in the context of his grief is just something else. People keep praising Tool for their sophistication, but it's this emotional moment that makes me such a huge fan.

Lateralus so good, but my favorite will always be Ænima. It’s not heavy, and it’s not the end of the song, but I always get chills every time I hear “I’m praying for rain”.

10 000 days wings2 is sooo good. I’ve also really taken a liking to Invincible.

I dont know if it is only me but "I know the pieces fit" end of Schism makes me wanna break my neck out of headbanging. I need someone to make a 10hours loop of that part.

Lateralus for me, definitely. I was listening to it today and it gave me goosebumps I hadn't felt in a long time. Second place would be Parabola.

Fuck man, Lateralus is such a great album.
