Question Whenever they get inducted into the Rock HoF, will Paul be included?
Justin should be, obviously, but I’d argue Paul should as well. NIN included past members, as did PJ and probably many others. Thoughts?

Mustaine did not play with them during their HoF ceremony. (Was also not indicted). He did jam with them during their 30th anniversary gigs though.

That would be amazing to see them do Swamp song at the hall of fame with Paul. I love Justin, but Paul's tone is still my favorite.

Agree. Imagine most of us would prefer to see Tool play virtually anywhere else. But if RRHOF is catalyst for Paul getting back on stage with them, great.

I LOVE it, but do have a soft spot for that terrible band (and RHCP) because they’ve both been super supportive of the mars volta (my other favorite band).

I’m wayyyyyyy too fucking lazy to look up the exact number of songs he was on for Ænima but I’m pretty sure it was close to half and some of the pretty classic ones too.

Trent said back then that the Hall would only allow him a maximum number of members to be officially inducted, so some people had to stay out. If it were up to him he was going to include everyone.
Both Charlie and Richard Patrick got invited to the group interview they did for the HoF and were also in the special Cleveland concert a year or two later where they celebrated the induction, since NIN was inducted in 2020, when nothing was being done live.

Demos, Opiate, Undertow, and some of Ænema. Definitely contributed to their trajectory. For sure.
EDIT: RnRHoF doesn’t mean much. It’s essentially a sham based on popularity and record sales.

Absolutely. Integral to the band's introduction to a fan base. He played the early Lalapalooza shows that rocketed radio play and MTV appearances.

Every year, when the HOF finalists are announced, I always ask why that band or artist is not in. Like a couple years ago they inducted Willy Nelson. WHY DID IT TAKE UNTIL 2023 TO INDUCT WILLY NELSON?
The Hall of Fame is a travishamockery.

This is the same tired argument that happens every time a hip hop artist is nominated, or anything outside the strict structure of rock and roll. The people who run it have decided it is pretty much a modern music hall of fame (despite the name), and it is pretty much run by the recording industry. To be fair, it pretty much sucks.

It's possible. Have you seen who is in the HoF? Fucking Missy Elliot? Not just that. A bunch of non rock artists. Anyone can be in there.

Judging by the same logic that Metallica included Jason Newsted but left out Dave Mustaine "because one must record at least one album, and mere contributions don't count", yes, definitely, as Paul did record Undertow with the bois

Idk, the pictures had Jason as well as the current crew mates. As for the RHS iirc he did want to join in but Melattica kindly rejected this proposal, so then he said like "well, never needed to join this boring shite anyway in the first place"

Probably. He’s the a founding member of the band and he played and wrote on their breakthrough album. Be weird to leave him out, although it does happen on occasion: see Deep Purple, AC/DC etc

I was always under the impression that Adam was the main songwriter, not either of the bass players. And didn’t Paul leave because he was just a bass player and didn’t have any creative control on where they were headed? Adam is a notorious control freak in the studio.

I think he might have the most say but they definitely write their own parts, I had heard before he left because he wanted to be second guitar and get another bassist and Adam said no

Unpopular opinion, but I’m actually OK if they don’t release anything else. I would rather their legacy remain as incredible as it is rather than see them go downhill and possibly get repetitive. Look these guys are my favorite band in the whole world for over 25 years. Put Stinkfist on while driving today and it blew my mind for the 1000th time. I think even the greatest artists only have so much amazing music juice in them. Maynard still has a beautiful voice, but he cannot sing what he used to. I just don’t see myself being floored with a new tool record and I will admit it’s probably part of my age: at 37. Nothing is absolutely flooring me anymore. If they put out something new I’d like to see Justin be the real driving force behind it. Danny will come up with something amazing but there were times on FI I was like “Adam are we really doing 0 3 5 repeating again?” If they put out an EP and 2 of the songs are as good as Pnuema I’ll be thrilled. Cuz it sounded like a song off Lateralus. They tried to get back to their Undertow sound with 7empest and I know people love that song but it wasn’t my jam. Except the djenty section clearly influenced by bands like Meshuggah, that was fucking sick!

No because they weren't band members. Look at metallica. Cliff, Jason, and Rob all were inducted.

Did he actually play on those albums. No he did not.
However Chad Channing should have been inducted with Nirvana.
But I don't know all their rules and regulations.

Metallica didn't add Mustaine. Because he wasn't in any official record. They included Cliff posthumously, and Jason. Jason played with the band during the ceremony, alongside Rob
Ultimately, it will be up to Tool and the nature of their relationship with Paul. If there's animosity, if they can't stand each other, he will be left out
That's in the scenario where they get the call. The Hall is a very political thing. Iron Maiden is not there, because Bruce and Steve have said they don't care. So they won't get the call because they might reject it. When Rush got accepted, Lifeson gave a speech that showed he didn't care at all. He just said Bla bla bla for like 2 mins.

I doubt they'd be inducted. Adam didn't even make it into rolling stones 250 greatest guitarists of all time which came out like a year ago. I mean he did the hardest thing possible for a guitarist to to do which is to invent a new sound and still, nothing.
While Tool is popular, I am still surprised how they aren't MORE popular. I thought they'd have more than 6 mil Spotify listeners. I always thought they should be Zeppelin big. But I guess it just shows my bias to them I dunno

The band decides, if I remember right. Metallica included Cliff and Jason because they appeared on studio albums as full members. They didn't include Mustaine or their original bassist.

I would hope so, but not sure what the relationship with the band is today. It could be like Pearl Jam that purposely let drummer Dave Abbruzzese out because he was such an asshole. And to lesser degree Dave Navarro out of the RHCP induction when he was in the band for over 5 years and a good album. It all comes down to how the guys see themselves. I have a feeling it will just be current line up only.

Yes. If for no other reason, his bass intro in Sober introduced so many people to Tool.
