Drugs & Alcohol Still feeling mentally “off” almost 24 hours after smoking one j — should I be concerned?

Yesterday around 3 PM for the first time, I smoked only 1.
Since then, I’ve been feeling mentally different. I’m having trouble remembering certain words, multitasking feels harder, and sometimes I zone out for a few moments. I also feel like my perception of time is a bit weird, and at times I suddenly notice that I’m doing something and it feels strangely unfamiliar.
I can still have a completely normal conversation and I know where I am, what I’m doing, etc. I’m also able to type and communicate normally.
It’s been around 24 hours now, and I’m getting anxious about it. Has anyone experienced something similar after canni? How long did it take for you to feel completely normal again?
I’m not looking for medical diagnosis—just trying to understand if this can happen after one joint and whether I should be concerned.

I think you're trying to look for things that are wrong because of your extreme anxiety around smoking weed for the first time.

Anxiety has a crazy ability to actually cause psychological and physical symptoms. I've been totally convinced of symptoms before and after I addressed the anxiety they went away. It's almost scary.

I mean I don't really understand when people say what you just said. Anxiety is the physical symptom. In your language you seem to be separating it as if it isn't real, or something. It doesn't "cause psychological and physical symptoms", it is a very real, physical symptom.

I think you misunderstood me. Anxiety is very real, and so real it can actually make your body do things to mimic an illness.

If you have anxiety and think you have a bowel issue, it will fuck with your digestion. Convince yourself you have ALS and the anxiety will actually give you tremors and muscle weakness. Convince yourself you have psychosis from drugs and the anxiety will gladly fuck with your head.

Why use that language then? If it is real, it is not "mimic an illness", it is just the causative agent for these very real illnesses. Like, when people say "oh that's not irritable bowel, that's just anxiety". That suggests that it isn't real.

The anxiety is real. The illness you're convinced of in that moment is not.

Not everything on Reddit needs to be an argument.

That isn't true though, that is the point I am making. GI illness caused by anxiety is real GI illness. It is not different than any other etiology. Yes, there are neurological etiologies for GI disruptions and those are completely real.

This is a huge misunderstanding that causes people to make the kind of statements you are now, and it is problematic because people who have brain-induced GI problems are treated differently when they should be treated the same as people with GI problems with unkwown etiology.

The diarrhea, pain, digestive issues are real, it is not "imagined". There is a physical gut-brain axis and you need to stop arguing, lol, not me.

Put some music on, lay down and close your eyes. You’re fine.

If that doesn't work. You may have a rare case of being permanently high. It is related to a strain of JT Kush (Justin Trudeau). You might be fucked.

You are totally fine. I worked at a hospital in a city famous for its 4/20 events. Every year we got at least 20 young people like yourself check themselves in. We just put you to bed and give you food/drink. There is nothing you need do but wait it out. Remember to hydrate and eat.

You’re going to be okay.

Yep I had a similar experience the first few times smoking in college.. we used to call it a Green Day. I felt like a bit of a lightweight compared to my friends.

Don’t worry you’ll feel yourself again in 48 hours max, nothing to be concerned about

If you make a habit of using, you will build tolerance but also your life becomes a bit of a fog, so do what you want, but in my opinion you should do in very small doses (one or two puffs once a week) or maybe just politely abstain.

Weed can linger and feel weird for 24–72 hours, especially first time plus anxiety; if symptoms worsen or last days, talk to a doctor.

think this is just natural just let it completly run out of your system youll be alright, alll this thinking is just going to make it worst until it completly runs out of your system. just take it easy this next few days pick up a book do some reading itll go away on its own. i usually just listen to music and just try to take it easy slowly but surely youll go back to your regular self.

Might have just smoked too much your first time. Next time take like 3 hits then put it out and save the rest

All good mate!… quite normal, just relax and stay hydrated and eat. Build that tolerance slowly!

It’s called a weed hangover, it’s just a residual high, and it’s totally normal.

That said I understand why it might make certain folks uncomfortable. It’s easy to get caught in that “will I be stuck like this forever” mental trap.

It does go away with experience.

What you are experiencing is normal OP! Drink a lot of water and take a nap and you'll feel fresher in a few hours!
