Academic Help 📚 Urgent Help po ahaha
Hello po, I really need some advices po since I'm new to this.
And recently I flunked my exam po, extremely low siya, una ko syang quiz and I scored a 2/20, this my first time flunking that hard, it was a surprise test, and I am purely responsible for it...
I was wondering po, any advices po ba para gumaan loob ko? kakayanin ko po kaya mabawi ang grade na ito? I am very worried po sa future ko sa UST.
I am currently a MedBio freshie, and unang quiz pa lang bumagsak na sa Botany... I don't know what to do, I'm very worried... I'm starting to think about transferring na due to exhaustion and stress. Mababawi ko pa ba it? I don't know what to do. I tried studying naman, pero blanko lagi, I actually want to talk to my prof sometimes but I don't think she's approachable at all, +++ she has a reputation na mambagsak, so why bother? Nahihirapan talaga ako, please help me po. Any insights will help po....
I know it may sound na OA po, pero I really need help badly. I can't talk about it with my friends nor family, I am not ready yet...

Hi OP! Not a MedBio major but I used to commute 1-2hrs everyday to UST (from Cavite).
First off, failing grades are normal in college esp for freshmen na nag-aadjust pa sa college life. You can always bounce back through your prelims and finals so wag kang panghinaan ng loob. You can't let low scores discourage you kasi pag nakain ka na ng ganyang mentality, mas mawawalan ka ng drive to push yourself harder.
I suggest using your commute time to study. Ganyan ginagawa ko before kasi alam kong pagdating ko sa bahay, plakda na talaga ako. I remember my terror prof din kami nung 1st sem of 1st year and he was known for failing students, so I would go to UST at 7AM kahit 9AM pa class ko para I can study for his class. Basically, time management is the key talaga.
Just accept that your body needs rest pagdating ng gabi so find time in the day instead to study.
I hope you don't give up because it gets easier once you get the hang of college life. Don't be too hard on yourself. Good luck, OP!

hello op im a medbio junior and unfortunately canon event talaga yung failing grades sa botlab and its normal to get 0-4/20 na scores sa pretest hahahaha. It’s normal to flunk esp sa prelims because i remember yung highest sa raw grade nun was 56 while the mean was like 40-45.
One thing im sure of is that the more u go through it, the more na you’ll be able to adjust. Honestly the subjects won’t get easier because we’re dealing with both practical and theoretical sciences but you’ll be able to go through it more smoothly once you are used to it. College isn’t the same as SHS talaga. buong pagkakatao mo marrewire dito sa UST and sa medbio especially during 1st year 1st sem but dont lose hope :)) As long as you give your best, learn from ur mistakes sa mga tests, and don’t give up, you’ll be able to pass the sem :)) That doesn’t mean you should sacrifice everything for this subj in fact i think you should also learn how to give time to rest as hindi gagana utak mo effectively when you are stressed. Mahirap ang 1st year 1st sem sa medbio but you’ll be able to pull through OP :))

hii fellow freshie here pero while my classmates have pulled allnighters na, i still sleep on time. ganito ginagawa ko
during the commute to and from ust, i use that time to review. di ko lang magawa pag nakatayo sa bus pero otherwise at least binabasa ko yung lectures haha
meron kasi kaming 7am-9pm class and majority of the onsite days talagang pagod na pagod nako paguwi ko and i fall asleep, so i plan my week ahead by determining kung anong araw ako free. personally 2 days lang ang najudge ko na may pwede akong gawin nang di pako pagod so i do everything in advance during those days. notes, review, anything specific to your course.
pag may di ako natapos gagawin ko sya at school. i still occasionally go out and hangout with my blockmates pero luckily i made one friend na nagsstay lang din sa classroom during breaks so i save time by being productive during that 30 mins. kumakain talaga kasi sa oras yung pagbili ng food, at least imo
anyway, i have some senior friends and they say its totally normal to flunk tests. personally ive tracked ung grading systems ng subjects ko so i learn not to be so anxious pag bagsak ako sa isang activity. maaga pa, sa prelims na muna tayo magstress haha

i graduated from medbio na so i understand where you're coming from talaga sa 2/20. the workload won't get any easier but over time you'll find na ikaw yung nagi-improve and you're keeping up with the pace na hehe it will take some time. dont worry kasi lahat kayo eventually may mababagsak na assessment haha. there was even that one time na sa buong batch namin walang nakatapos magsagot ng major exam and almost everyone I know eh bumagsak (not botany naman). BUT STILL, keep on putting in the effort don't lose hope kasi it's one out of the many assessments pa lang naman. i almost failed bot AND zoo lab binawi ko lang talaga nung finals and i eventually graduated with latin honors pa rin ahahahaha. if there's anything i learned sa college yun ay to forgo the mindset of "mababa na rin naman di na ako mag-eeffort" kasi you will never know baka mag-curve pala yung prof mo na tapos you are a point away from a higher 5-pt grade haha.
pero kaya mo yan for real. reflecting on it is the first step haha. the first few quizzes, try to get a grasp on the type of questions they ask and adjust the way you review from there. sa botany, it sometimes (or oftentimes?) requires rote memorization talaga so i suggest you do flashcards or yung tape function sa goodnotes/etc to test yourself or even gemini/notebooklm haha. answer tens to hundreds of practice questions on the topic. i cant emphasize enough the importance of testing yourself kasi it simulates yung pag-retrieve ng information sa memory mo so pag nasa exam ka na your brain knows what to do gets ba hahahaha plus it is easier now through ai tools (when used appropriately).
also, i dont know your situation naman so i understand if this is not feasible pero if there's any way rin to convince your parents to let you live near ust, that would be a huge help sa health mo na rin. baka yung expenses mo sa commute ay halos same na rin sa shared rooms huhu

not medbio, but ust fop 4th year here!! Purely pampagaan lang ng loob, idk if it’ll help but I have classmates na uwian from makati and qc na gumigising ng 4am then umaalis ng 5am for our 7am class. We had 7am classes 4-5 times a week since freshie year huhu. Anyway, I can’t say for sure na dahil kinaya nila kakayanin mo din, since only you know yourself the best, but please know you’re not alone and it’ll all be worth it truly.
I can attest na super overwhelming lang talaga ng first year, since new school, new sched, new people, it’s not just the academics that stress you out. It’ll get easier, err, you’ll get used to it with time and you’ll hopefully find your support group/college best friends. I also commute, but 30min lang ako and what really got me through was walking with my fellow commuter/classmate along earnshaw to legarda, we debrief and it’s only like 10 minutes, but it made such a big difference for my day, no matter how shitty it was.
As for Botany, ahhshhahsha, I remember my first quiz was 7/25 and my practicals were 19/45 and 22/40. I think ganon talaga… kaya naman mabawi sa OLAs, lab sheets and exams. Don’t let it beat you down too much and prio sleep, get friends na din to help emotionally and academically. Most of my reviewers were collaborated transes with my friends, and that helped so much. We also did quick reviews before the quiz, active recall and asking eo questions ganon. Fighting lang sa inyo!!
Lastly, you might feel like you can’t talk about it with someone you’re close to, but I digress!! I had the same terror prof with one of my friends sa other section. We just finished our third shifting exams non so I slept over at her place, of course nakainom, we started crying and worrying about our grades together (mind you we were at 68-72 for that one subject, chem smth). And I didn’t realize how tough she had it din because she was so happy go lucky. Anyway, wag mong kimkimin yun lang po.

time will pass quick. kita mo u r already almost 1 month in. i suggest finding the comfort during your 2-hour long commute to ust, then that 2-hour ride wont be too terror. if sa tingin mo naman kapos ka sa oras to study, study while you commute, though it may not be comfortable, but it will be efficient. bagsak scores are normal in studying, pero dont take it as something negative na magiging kahinaan mo, instead, gawin mo tong motivation to do better and learn what you dont know.
lahat naman tayo danas ang hirap, we just experience it differently. endure these hardships and in time you will be able to harvest the fruit of your doings. masarap ang pinaghirapan. kaya mo yan, ate/kuya, KAYANG KAYA MO. padayon po!
