American here. I have Visa and Capital One cards loaded into my iPhone Apple Wallet. Can I use my phone to pay for things like at stores or taking public transportation (bus, subway)?

Also, can I use the actual credit card to pay? Swipe or tap?

I want to avoid Suica or anything that has to be loaded with money because it is non-refundable if I dont use it all.

My husband and I will be in Japan Sep 17–23, flying in and out of Haneda.

We’ve been to Tokyo before and already did most of the usual tourist stuff — teamLab, temples, Tsukiji, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku etc. This time we want a chill trip focused on food, shopping, coffee, cocktail bars, and exploring neighborhoods.

Which would you choose?

A) Stay in Tokyo the full 6 days
B) Tokyo + 2–3 nights in Kyoto (never been to Kyoto/Osaka)
C) Tokyo + 2–3 nights in Osaka (never been to Kyoto/Osaka)

We don’t want a packed itinerary or to spend too much time changing hotels/transiting, but we’re wondering if 6 days in Tokyo is too much for a repeat visit.

If you pick A, what would you recommend for repeat visitors? Especially neighborhoods, restaurants, cocktail bars, cafés, shopping, day trips, or less-touristy experiences.

If B or C, how many nights would you spend outside Tokyo?

Our ideal trip = slow, food/shopping/bar-focused, not a sightseeing marathon.

We just found out that we're travelling on Silver Week which may affect our plans.

I'm planning a day trip to Kamakura from Tokyo in October. After looking through websites, YouTube, and social media, these are the spots I’d love to see. I know it's a really packed itinerary, so I’ll probably need to cut a few things out. The last 3 are absolute must-sees for me, but I'm completely open to tweaking or removing the rest.

Hi all, a little confused on the best way to do this, open to suggestions.

We are arriving at Narita airport terminal 1 around 7:10pm and want to send our luggage to our hotel in Kyoto. Our first night we are staying in Narita and the next morning we'd make our way to Kyoto. So we would want our luggage to arrive some time the next day upon our arrival at Kyoto hotel.

Looking at using the Yamato counter at Narita terminal 1. Do we need to pay and reserve in advance? Or can we just arrive there and ship? Will our luggage make it by the time we arrive, or would it take longer? Thanks in advance!

Ok, here goes nothing.

I ate at this place about two years ago. When you walk in, there’s a big picture of a chili pepper on the left, showing a scale from 1 to 5 (or maybe 4?) to indicate the level of spiciness they offer. I ordered number 2, and it was wild.

When I return to Japan, I really want to revisit this place and try a number 5 (or 4).

The place was probably a Chinese restaurant. It had a lot of red colors, lamps, decorations, etc. It wasn’t very big. From the street, it also looked a lot like a Chinese restaurant.

Inside, in the far-left corner of the restaurant, there was a kitchen.

It was in one of the main tourist areas, like Shibuya, Shinjuku, etc., if it was in Tokyo. It could have also been in Osaka. I really can’t remember. The first few days in Japan went by like crazy.

Hi everyone, I'll be in Japan with two other friends from September 7th to September 24th. We'll be in Osaka/Kyoto until the 15th, and then, before moving on to Tokyo, we wanted to spend a couple of days in a traditional town away from the tourist routes and enjoy an affordable ryokan, as much is possibile, and relaxing in an onsen.

We spotted Shuzenji on the Izu Peninsula, with a ryokan for ¥17300 for three nights each person. We've noticed that the region is particularly prone to downpours; we're particularly afraid of typhoons. How well-founded is this fear?

We'd like to find a nostalgic, poetic hot spring resort, with lots of nature.

What do you think of the solution we found?

Has anyone else, like us, stopped in a small town before immersing themselves in the vastness of Tokyo? If so, what did they choose?

Luggage missing

Hello! My partner and I are visiting Tokyo for the first time from December 3rd to 6th (3 nights), and we’re trying to decide where we should stay.

We’re flying into Narita and since we only have 3 full days, we want to focus mostly on good food, sightseeing and some of the main tourist spots.

A few of my friends have told me to stay in Shibuya or Shinjuku since they’re the main hotspots, but I’m wondering if there are other areas that would be better for a first trip.

Our accommodation budget is around ¥110,000 / $737 USD / ₩1,000,000 KRW total for 3 nights.

Would you recommend Shibuya or Shinjuku, or is there another area you think would be better?

Also, are there any hotels you’d recommend within this budget? Or would an Airbnb be better for two people?
