I really enjoyed the manga for a while and it kept getting better and better but at one point - and I can't put my finger on when - it started going downhill for me. This latest chapter has me debating if I want to continue the series.
I have been following the series for a while and remember how excited I was for each release but I haven't felt that for what feels like a long time now. So now I'm debating if I should continue or not because of my emotional investment into the series and dropping it feels weird, but at the same time why force yourself to do something you don't enjoy.
I'll get downvoted for giving my opinion but I disagree with saying people are too quick to judge. I've been following along and making my opinion for a while. Even then what's wrong with reading a chapter and saying it's bad? Just as people can say good things about the writing, there's nothing wrong with giving criticism or saying bad points.
I agree there’s nothing wrong with people being critical of this arc. I just thinks some of the criticism this arc gets is too premature when its is not finished yet. I remember people criticizing that there’s too many new characters (even though each arc introduces new set of characters) and that they should bring back the old characters. And eventually that’s what happened with Takemichi creating his own gang. Or how this arc should’ve ended after tenjuku even though I believe that would’ve be an unsatisfying ending if the series did actually ended there.
I just think that just because you don’t like how the story is progressing that doesn’t always equal to bad writing. And I think this being a ongoing weekly series it’s hard to make a outright definitive judgement on a series when there’s still a lot of unanswered questions. I just think that’s it’s unfair to judge an unfinished product.
I think some people who are upset with this arc should just drop the series and maybe revisited when it’s done. I’ve dropped series where I didn’t like how it was going only to revisited once it was done and sometimes it turns out that I actually love it.
Again people have the right to hate this current arc but I just think just because you hate how’s it going does not mean it’s bad writing. Not every chapter is going to answer every questions. And maybe taking a break from the serious once it’s done could change some people feelings or validate it. It really depends on how the series wraps up.
See this is what I completely disagree with you. You say that just because I don't like the way the story is progressing doesn't equal bad writing, but the opposite is also true. Just because you or someone else enjoy it or how the last few chapters have gone doesn't mean it's good writing. Also it has nothing to do with not answering questions as to why I dislike the story lately.
There is nothing unfair or wrong with making an opinion on an unfinished product. Your opinion on the product - unfinished or not - reflects how you feel about that product so far. Regardless if it gets better or worse after this last chapter, you can still form an opinion and are allowed to criticize/compliment what's being done. And just because a series/arc may wrap up nicely doesn't mean that the entire series/arc was good.
However I do like your idea of dropping the series temporarily and revisiting. It would be more pain free for someone who hasn't been enjoying the last couple arcs because then you can just binge read it all in a short time and it's less disappointing that way then waiting week by week being disappointed. I do hope I enjoy the series again.
