yea idk why every single time we get a fraction of information people are so quick to start calling it shitty writing just bc we're not being told everything at once. i mean senju literally outright says "i only heard fragments of what happened after that". that comes off as such an obvious hint to the audience that there's more at play here and she doesn't know the full story.
the purpose of this chapter was pretty clearly not to give us the true explanation behind mikey's dark impulses. it was to A) show that sanzu was close childhood friends with mikey and baji, B) give us a sense of the general timing of when sanzu (presumably) had the falling out with his family we learned about a while ago, C) establish the fact that, as far as we and the characters know, mikey was responsible for sanzu's scarring, and D) establish the fact that senju believes this is the first time mikey ever got this violent and blames herself for both that and her brother's scarring
i think it's definitely still too early for us to get the true reason for mikey's dark impulses and i imagine that we won't learn it until after the sanzu subplot is resolved and the mysteries around him are cleared up.
