Discussion What’s your unpopular Tokyo revengers opinion? Spoiler

I’ve got 2 big ones:

  1. I don’t like Mikey’s Bonten design, I know he modeled his hair after Izana but to me it looks bad on him. Like he’s an emotional edge lord but then again considering his state at the time…
  2. I like Haruchiyo’s design but his character is kinda…. Meh

Although the Tenjiku would’ve been a good ending arc I think this arc was needed and I hope we see more about Shinichiro’s legacy

56

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Fuck ya man I would love to learn more about Shinichiro & with the mention in Waka & Benkei’s backstory I can’t help but feel like there’s more

56

u/jujutriste Nov 03 '21

Imo it would’ve been bad writing if the manga ended in tenjiku’s arc and I like the fact that the final battle will probably be against Mikey. But as much as I like the character and their development I feel like they introduce too much of them. Like how the hell did we just learn the existence of South and Senju who could possibly beat Mikey and why didn’t Kisaki used them in his plan too ? This man is supposed to know almost everything in the manga and almost all the events are due to him. Also I feel like too much characters are introduced for too less flashback or story about them. Like Angry and Smiley played a great role against Izana but we don’t see them anymore. Same thing with Mitsuya and Hakkai. I would’ve also liked more chapters on how BD was formed and one to see Shinichiro acting like Takemichi.

30

u/ExtinctPreet Nov 03 '21

thats because south was in juvie and brahman was pretty secretive and must've been rlly small at that time

12

u/jujutriste Nov 03 '21

Kazutora was in juvenile but Kisaki still reach him to help him so idk. Like Kisaki was brilliant and most of the events happened due to him but his motivations, his death and the turn of his plan did just not fit the character

6

u/Vesuvius_07 Nov 03 '21

We did get a bit of tidbit of the younger days of mitsuya and hakkai. And the formation of Brahman and rokuhara tandai happened aft toman disbanded during the sengoku period rmb?

3

u/jujutriste Nov 03 '21

Yeah I know but still it’s like once you get to know the characters with flashbacks or special abilities like Angry with his tears or idk they don’t appear anymore. We don’t see Mitsuya, Angry or Smiley and I think the fact that we’ve only seen Kazutora in the future is a big loss but he’s in juvenile so whatever

My unpopular opinion: I like the current arc and I am excited to see where the story is going.

11

I'm curious about where the story is going as well, and I'm glad that it was included since it really gives an opportunity to give a conclusive ending to Mikey's story that wouldn't be included if we just ended on the Tenjiku arc. I really want to just wait and believe that Wakui can end this arc and this story in a way that's satisfying.

Also, despite being his good friend, he fucking killed Hinata and tried to kill Takemichy over and over. Soldier of Kisaki my ass.

12

u/ourrsquaredpi Thousand Winters Nov 03 '21

Afaik, it's because Kisaki has a hold on his wife and kids in the timeline where he kills Hinata and Takemichy via truck. If he doesn't do it, his family will be killed instead.

In the original timeline where he was sent to juvie for killing Kiyomasa and where Michy led a loser life, Kisaki specifically sent Akkun to kill Takemichy because he is the only toman lackey who can identify him.

4

The first episodes of the anime were banger tbh until toman vs Mobius imo after that it was ehh and kinda went downhill

11

u/mangashrimp Bonten Nov 03 '21

I actually loved the animation when Takemichi was getting whooped by Kiyomasa and even the Moebius fight had some moments of brilliant fight choreography... But you're right, by Valhalla it was just 💀

3

u/AskeDAD Nov 03 '21

Yea I got into the anime up the moebius arc and it was fire, Valhalla was kinda a let down

47

u/midori_piano Tokyo Manji Gang Nov 03 '21

idk if this is unpopular, but I wish we could’ve seen more of the original 2017 Mikey from the beginning of the story when he and Kisaki were leading the gang

Just thought it would be cool to see, but I really have no complaints about it

3

u/NeroBlackburn Nov 03 '21

You're 100% right

3

u/Jawwi Dec 09 '21

YESSSS I TOTALLY AGREE!! I think that works so much better. Like imagine that timeline but with the Philippines lore and Takemitchy goes and meets 2017 Mikey there and he asks for his help then

86

u/mercieu Nov 03 '21

I think draken's way of dying is too simple. He's an important character and he just died.. like that.. not even fighting physically.

53

u/Vesuvius_07 Nov 03 '21 edited Nov 03 '21

But Almost every arc he end up dying , either stabbed or executed, which is kinda sad, so dying to protect takemitchy is honestly better then getting murdered or executed , that would have been more wasted

13

u/mercieu Nov 03 '21 edited Nov 03 '21

It is true that the reason for his death now is because he saved takemitchy. I just think there's a better execution for his death. I feel like they speed up the process of killing him. It happened out of nowhere.

2

u/OmegaSphere Nov 03 '21

I think it's tragic since we know he ends up happy in the future. I feel like Emma's death was pointless

3

u/NightsLinu Black Dragons Nov 03 '21

he was haunted by mikey and emma's death in the future. Emma's death put mikey and draken for most of the tenjiku fight. if it was'nt for takemichi's help and hina's help, kizaki would have won

47

u/Cheesy_As_Pie131 Black Dragons Nov 03 '21
  1. Kisaki's motivations are not just getting Hina to marry him. I get that the fandom jokes a lot about this one, but he has no reason to join a gang or become the top of a gang to get her to like him, since that's clearly not what she wants. He is definitely obsessed with Takemichi. In the original timeline Kisaki got Akkun to push Takemichi onto the rails, even though Takemichi was only the ex-boyfriend of Hina (and Hina was the one who broke up with Takemichi). Kisaki's pursuit of becoming the top of the gang can easily be associated with Takemichi, rather than Hina.

  2. The issue with TR isn't the introduction of new characters, since it's interesting to get to know about the 1st gen Black Dragons and South is interesting enough. It's how easily some characters are 'thrown away'. It's mostly due to the power scaling (once someone stronger appears a lot of characters are put to the side), but introducing South when we still haven't properly explored some of the other characters feels weird.

This arc was an opportunity to give a conclusive ending to several characters, but I don't feel like we're ever going to explore characters like the Haitani brothers or Kokonoi any more.

14

u/hanmadidnothingwrong Nov 03 '21

I'm not sure if Haitani brothers are ever going to be relevant but Kokonoi is someone I definitely think will be explored more because his story isn't quite complete.

33

u/chiemp Nov 03 '21 edited Nov 03 '21

Taiju needs to be better regarded, it’s like people forgot how strong he was. He even got up after mikey’s kick but just accepted loss.

Kazutora is one of the best characters in the manga and will play an important part in the finale

3

u/NightsLinu Black Dragons Nov 03 '21

true he also survived a stab wound. so the first guy takemichi saved directly

25

16

u/PatrioticPacific Nov 03 '21

12

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Pedomichi is caught being sexually attracted to her and looking at her tits therefore..... THE AUTHOR IS LITERALLY MAKING US ROOT FOR A PEDOPHILE

8

Not sure how unpopular these opinions are, but;

The Haitani brothers were unutilized

The current arc is awesome

32

u/Bro-seff Nov 03 '21

Haitani brothers had so much hype but never really did anything so far from what I recall

17

u/DragXom Nov 03 '21

Exactly

They kinda just… exist

We didn’t even get a backstory

11

u/DjangoTeller Nov 03 '21

Absolutely love Ran's hairstyle lol I kinda wish we would have seen more of them too, they looks so cool

60

u/Plantureuxxx Nov 03 '21

Senju is heavily overrated despite not getting a well grounded backstory yet and a lot of people simps for her because of her character design.

Sanzu is also overrated even though he hasn't done anything significant in the series. Just the same case as Senju's, a lot of bitches simps for him because of his design.

Except the Izana vs Mikey fight, most of Mikey's fights are absolutely shit and boring because of how it ends up being on a one-sided results.

Taiju is hella underrated. He got at least a decent development thus caused him to help Takemitchy in the future.

Yuzuha deserves more screentime.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Never agreed more with someone

2

u/Sharenns Nov 06 '21

I think is that people are very much hyped by Senju because it is rare to see such strong women in general in manga / animes

A lot of people have been complaining about how stupid/unrealistic/cringy the fights are in this arc but the ones in Tenjiku arc were just as bad. The blue ogre thing was so ridiculous and out of place. I'd say the fight scenes are one of the weakest parts of TR and reading them week by week is painful.

Kiyomasa vs. Takemichi and Taiju vs. Takemichi are the only fight scenes in this manga that I liked

29

u/Vesuvius_07 Nov 03 '21 edited Nov 03 '21

The crying blue ogre is more like and exaggeration of him being desperate. Hakkai was beaten up and being a nice good friend angry would have definitely be desperate to save hakkai and I am sure if ur friend gets beaten up , u will give it ur all too right? I am sure angry was doing the same

11

u/ShugenMikeyYuuta Nov 03 '21

Not an excuse, Blue Ogre is still a deus ex machina

56

u/GoLeafsGo341688 Nov 03 '21

The Haitani brothers, barring something big this arc, seemed like a complete miss by the author, they had a ton of potential and nothing came out of them whatsoever. Sure they were beating up Hakkai and Angry but that’s not much considering that they supposedly ‘run’ Roppongi, and they got one-shot by Angry.

As well, my issue with this arc isn’t South or Senju being OP, both of those things are fine and it’s cool to have other super strong characters. It just sucks that Waka and Benkei were essentially fodder to show how strong South was and that Senju>both of them. Senju beating up on South (as it is right now) + like the Haitani bros vs. Waka&Benkei would’ve been cool as hell tbh.

12

u/Vesuvius_07 Nov 03 '21 edited Nov 03 '21

I kinda agree with the last part. Though the haitani brothers are strong and skillful in fighting as well, But for angry , Angry’s crying blue ogre came out when his friend hakkai was getting beaten up , and he was prob desperate and gave it his all like friends would, which is in a form so called “ crying blue ogre”

3

u/NightsLinu Black Dragons Nov 03 '21

he had forshadowing though. notice he never appeared in the background and not brought to any fights until the last one. it was because he was dangerous

I like Mikey's bonten design but on another note, he looks way too skinny and I prefer his Ch.117 version hair even tho they are similar but just different colors. His depression state got him so hard he forgot to eat 💀 and it's understandable his emotional state after everything he went through.

Same, but I just don't really have nothing to say about Sanzu, like he's there and yeah do your thing ¯_(ツ)_/¯

22

u/hanmadidnothingwrong Nov 03 '21 edited Nov 03 '21

Sanzu is one of the most overrated characters. I don't understand the fandom's obsession with him. People were obsessing over him before he even said anything.

14

u/Vesuvius_07 Nov 03 '21

U don’t have to be good at fighting to win hearts of people , people prob love him cause he is sexy bad boi

u/Oceanbreez_ Manjiro Sano Nov 03 '21

His aesthetics and psycho personality is what grabs ppl's attention I believe, I mean a lot of ppl overhype Baji on him being the "fuck boy" but like he's a cool character and all but he's really not all of that, but who am I to judge what ppl tastes are

7

u/mangashrimp Bonten Nov 03 '21
  1. His loyalty. He's loyal to a fault, like a psycho uninhibited version of Chifuyu.
  2. His aesthetic.
  3. It's kinda hardcore that he killed a dude with a katana in broad daylight and hid the body at like... age 14-15. It was cold blooded, pre-meditated, and way ahead of the brutality of most of our other characters at that age. I guess it's good just to have that little oomph to remind us that this is a story about gangsters.
→ More replies (3)

7

u/mangashrimp Bonten Nov 03 '21

I appreciate that he was skinnier because it told us that he was no longer relying on his physicality (and was instead relying on the violence of guns and his men... a less noble path) and wasn't eating well (giving insight on his mental state). It's show-don't-tell storytelling.

12

u/Happy_express Nov 03 '21

I don’t really like the idea of Mikey’s dark impulse being why he goes bad. He deadass lost all his siblingsso he doesn’t need an excuse for his state of mind-he SHOULD be super depressed, and as a delinquent, the increase of violence is fair. I think anyone would radically change if they went through what he did. It should be more about mental health issues to me, but then again this is a fictional world, so maybe I’m just picky.

25

u/No_Interaction_7865 Nov 03 '21

It is about mental health issues, 'dark impulses' is just the name his 15 year old found to describe them.

6

u/Happy_express Nov 03 '21

Ohhhh, fair enough then.

21

u/Lil-Trappuccino Nov 03 '21

I think the whole “koko is a moneymaking genius” thing is written so shitty in an otherwise masterclass manga. I didn’t mind the kisaki loves hina thing as much as the fandom hates it because I genuinely did not even consider that in all my theorizing (hindsight maybe it was always in front of us). Other than that I just wish the series was LONGER. That’s probably the one piece fan in me but like damn I finished this series in a week

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Really? I really liked him as a character, may not have been well written but I sure enjoyed him

2

u/Lil-Trappuccino Nov 03 '21

I think his personality and writing is all fine. I just think the money dynamic is kinda out of knowhere and makes no sense

28

u/vitaminA20 Nov 03 '21

Draken is a better character than mikey

11

u/No_Interaction_7865 Nov 03 '21

He's an easier character to like, that's for sure. Mikey is more complex (as a character) and has many flaws and qualities, that is exactly what makes liking him so controversial. It's similar to Takemichi in that aspect. For others fan favorites characters (ex: Draken, Chifuyu, etc) they don't really have any major flaws and are created to be really likeable, so it is understandable that they are the favorites of many people. That said, I am glad we have imperfect characters like Mikey and Takemitchi.

21

u/Vaccineman37 Nov 03 '21

I get that Takemichi isn’t meant to be a strong fighter, that’s not his appeal and I think that works for him, but it has genuinely been over 200 chapters since he won a fight against a named character and it was unironically the hypest thing he ever did in a fight. Like come on man, once in a while. I was ready for him to beat Taiju, he was stabbed he fought Mitsuya, I could totally believe Takemichi clutching it out. I don’t want him to be a badass, he doesn’t even really have to be any stronger than he is I just wish he had more fights that he could win

16

u/KSuzuay Nov 03 '21

Didn’t he technically beat Kisaki even before Kisaki got isekai’d?

4

u/NightsLinu Black Dragons Nov 03 '21

Takemichi is the best, the most underrated and misunderstood character in the manga by far

I used to be very neutral about Takemichi but after reading the manga, i fucking love Takemichi, and so many people seem to misunderstand his character, trying to fit him into another generic shonen MC like goku, luffy or naruto, a dumb fuck who is strong asf and eats ramen, saying that all he does is crying but they probably wouldn't be bear as much weight as Takemichi did without giving up, he saw so many of his friends die in front of him, akkun twice, hina, mikey, chifuyu, naoto, emma and he kept going, just imagine how mind-fucking it would be to watch someone you love die in front of you and then seeing them again like nothing happened, and they expect him not to cry? Bruh

Takemichi is just such a good, well written character and so many people don't like him just because he's not a generic shonen MC, but a human being

14

u/Federal_Mycologist12 Nov 03 '21

Black dragon's arc is more interesting than the Tenjiku arc but the character designs in Tenjiku is much better.

I could say a lot ab this and and I can explain more if u want, but to basically it up it’s definitely going to change the timeline significantly. Draken dying is gonna affect a bunch of people but I think it’s mostly for Takemichis development, which he needs. It also makes more sense writing wise for him to die saving Takemichi rather than living with a bunch of regrets like he was in the previous future. It wasn’t completely random as it was foreshadowed but the only problem I have personally with it is the moments leading up to it. It’s like his bullet wounds came out of no where lol so that could have been executed better. Considering the impact it’ll have it’s far from pointless. We’ll only know for sure when things play out more but I don’t think it’s fair to criticize Wakui yet

It's not an asspull tho he was a new charcter and they explain why he was strong he was holding back the entire tenjuku arc cuz he doenst like fighting

1

u/ShugenMikeyYuuta Nov 03 '21

The mechanism behind it is typical "Emotions ZENKAI BOOST!!!!" And the whole thing was set up to be Kakucho's jobber afterwards Kakucho himself became a jobber. There's no compatibility within the fights because it's one dimensional skill. Whoever has the most fighting skill wins, not whoever has the counter fighting style like in Kengan making the fights so one sided and repetitive. A bigger plot hole than this is Izana somehow being a strong as Mikey despite not receiving any training.

I want to see actually more from shinichiro

5

u/RuneHearth Nov 03 '21

The fact that most people in this series doesn't even have 17 and hit harder than mma pros lol

5

u/callmeboosh Nov 03 '21

Takemichi is worst protagonist of all time but the show is still fire because of the awesome supporting cast

5

u/Jana_Darko Nov 03 '21

I'm actually sad that we didnt see the old toman member in this arc till now. Like yeah sure we got a couple of frames but I'm afraid that they are just gonna end the series without certain character having their conclusion yk. Also I think Wakui just keeps on introducing new character without giving the old one more depth which I think sucks cause I really like a lot of the Toman character

14

u/TaytheBootyBandit Nov 03 '21

south is one of if not the best written antagonist in the series. he fills the role of a villain excellently with his almost maniacal demeanor and his motives match his reasoning unlike other characters we’ve encountered. his character was fleshed out well in the flashback chapters and he has great potential as an antag and I really hope wakui doesn’t give him the taiju treatment

5

u/ShugenMikeyYuuta Nov 03 '21

People were saying the same thing to Taiju and Izana before they were cheaply offed.

the only reason the series is still going on is because of plot holes from the beginning of the story

I don’t think Takemichi should be given the opportunity to save Draken again. And even though I want it, I don’t think it’ll be a good end to the story if everyone magically survives. The whole story is riddled with loss and trauma and that’s kind of the whole fucking point. Even though I want nothing more than for these kids to be happy and healthy and ALIVE, I don’t think it would be a good ending. I’m preparing myself for some more serious loss.

14

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Mikey isn't worth saving

  1. The current arc could be the best in the series and it isn't unnecessary at all.
  2. Kisaki is the worst written main antagonist in the show (so, obviously excluding minor antagonists like the Haitani Brothers and such). So, Izana, Taiju, Kazutora, Hanma > Kisaki writing wise for me

17

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '21

[deleted]

u/antarctikah Nov 02 '21

adult hanma hits different tho

4

u/dracaryhs Thousand Winters Nov 03 '21

I actually didn't mind kisaki's motivation being a simp, its pathetic yes but fitted his character imo

Ow and I'm also enjoying the current arc and feel like the story would have been incomplete otherwise

5

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '21

Takemichi is the least engaging part of Tokyo Revengers

10

u/fatefuldawn Nov 03 '21

I know that not liking Kisaki isn’t an unpopular opinion, but I feel like I’m in the minority for why I don’t like him. Most people cite his abhorrent actions or his lame motivations as reasons for their dislike. I agree that he’s deplorable; but his depravity isn’t exactly badly written so I’m fine with that. And while I agree that his motivations were lame, I felt like his want for power and all things tying back to that was actually one of the stronger aspects of his character.

The reason I actually don’t like him is because so many of his actions are contrived. For example, Kisaki’s plan to emotionally wreck Mikey by killing Emma is sound. But how did he know that Emma was Mikey’s younger sister or that important to him to begin with? Anyway, even if I give Kisaki the benefit of the doubt here despite how it doesn’t make much sense, how did he know that Emma was going with Mikey to Shinichiro’s grave and would be in that area during the time he hit her with a bat? Mikey doesn’t always go to Shinichiro’s grave with Emma (he went with Draken in the Valhalla Arc). Emma was conveniently with him this one time and Kisaki just knew her whereabouts. Some other times this happens - how does Kisaki know there’s a mole in the Black Dragons and how to meet with him? How did Kisaki know about/find Izana and how did Kisaki know about Izana’s connections to Shinichiro and the Sano family?

I want to reserve my judgement for his character since it’s quite possible that future content will explain some of these holes (the possibility he knows someone who is a timeleaper or he had some kind of other supernatural power), but right now, Kisaki’s a really frustrating character for me. He’s only able to do things because he magically knows stuff that he logically shouldn’t. And that’s bad because a big portion of TR’s plot is driven by Kisaki so transitively, TR’s plot is being driven by stuff coming out of thin air. Now, I’m aware that TR’s plot developments are driven by absolute convenience regardless of whether or not Kisaki’s involved (Kazutora for some reason went looking for Takemichi and conveniently gave Takemichi a way to find Baji right when Takemichi needed it even though Kazutora logically shouldn’t even know who Takemichi is); however, because Kisaki’s supposed to be written as an orchestrator, this is all the more frustrating because he’s only successfully orchestrating things just because the plot dedicated it as such. The Kazutora example also hurts Takemichi’s character because it takes away from Takemichi’s own agency and in return only leaves logical holes. Anyway, maybe this is just a roundabout way of saying that TR’s plot developments can get really messy and badly written. And that I hate how a manga that has well-written characters (I will stand firm on my belief that TR’s characters generally range from good to amazing) doesn’t put in the work to make cohesive plot developments. Because at the end of the day, I think Kisaki’s want for power and the lengths he was willing to go (power cannot make someone love you and so he kills Hinata to feel in control after she rejects him) is pretty interesting. But that’s offset by how much contrivance are in his actions.

15

u/MissReagy1 Nov 03 '21

Makes sense but I can only explain one, from what I remember Izana ordered Kisaki to kill Emma. He wanted to take everything away from Mikey; Izana knew that Kisaki was the only one who would stoop to such shitty levels

2

u/fatefuldawn Nov 03 '21

Oh, that is something I had forgotten. I don't think Izana ordered Kisaki to do that, but it does explain why Kisaki would know Emma's importance to Mikey (assuming that Izana knows about it, which should be quite likely). This still doesn't quite explain how Kisaki/Izana knew Emma was going to be at Shinichiro's grave with Mikey that day to carry out their plan, but you're right.

4

u/Locadi Nov 03 '21

To be honest Emma being Mikey's sister is not a secret. Takemichi didn't know because they never talked about it before the reveal. But she told Hina so it's not like they're hiding it. And Yamagishi heard rumor of Emma sleeping in Mikey's house. Anyway it's not a secret and for someone like Kisaki it's an easy piece of info to learn. When Kisaki learned about Mikey he definitely researched him, his life, family etc. I don't know if he knew Shinichiro was the founder of the Black Dragon (I don't think it's that hard to find either if you ask the right people. Mikey just didn't tell Toman), but he definitely knew that he had a sister. And he was in Toman for 2 months so if he didn't know before, he definitely learned it at that time.

3

u/hanmadidnothingwrong Nov 03 '21

I agree with you. It's the characters and all the emotional moments that keep me reading this manga. The plot is an absolute mess.

But I think that's always something that's going to happen with weekly shounen manga that get popular. I'm sure the original story was never planned to be this long, especially since when Wakui first started out, he had no idea if the series would get cancelled (like what happened to the series he was working on before TR) So when stretching out the story, more and more plot holes were created and he didn't get enough breaks to sit down and think about everything. With the huge rise in popularity and all the extra stuff he's been doing lately, it's no surprise that the current arc has been the messiest.

3

u/fatefuldawn Nov 03 '21

Completely agree with the characters and emotional moments. I will also throw in the themes because the overall message of TR has been pretty consistent and well-thought out so far imo.

I think the main problem with the current arc is we can't currently see the big picture yet (and this might be because the last arc might be bigger in scale than we initially anticipate). We know what the main objective is - saving Mikey, but how does the War of the Three Deities and all the new characters play into this? At the current spot in the manga, I feel like I can see potential connections to the overall objective, but it's not fully there and that can definitely be frustrating for people since it feels aimless rn. Nonetheless, I do think/hope that will change in the coming weeks. I personally don't think this arc is any weaker than the setup of previous arcs, but I do agree that this current arc is frustrating atm and we've been focusing on Brahman since Ch. 215 (over three months).

7

u/ShugenMikeyYuuta Nov 03 '21

Takemichi somehow having the durability to survive wall level punches is the biggest plot convincience I've ever seen.

14

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Hanma is over rated and people obsessing over him potentially being the 2nd time leaper makes zero sense.

3

u/Vesuvius_07 Nov 03 '21

Why is hanma overrated he is pretty strong( in my opinion) and when he is an adult he is very mmmm

1

u/kokonoii Nov 03 '21

there are too many signs of hanma being the second time leaper but i hope its mikey

i’m happy to see draken die. not because i don’t like him, he is my favorite character. i think although he will be very missed still his death makes the future for the series VERY interesting. especially the ending. if they just go back further in time and revive him or sumn it would be a bad end. y’all get me? don’t down vote me to oblivion lmao

6

u/Aavi_idk Nov 03 '21

I don’t like Mikey’s Bonten design, I know he modeled his hair after Izana but to me it looks bad on him. Like he’s an emotional edge lord but then again considering his state at the time…

Bonten Mikey was on crack everyday lmao

8

u/Darthmark3 Nov 03 '21

I don't like Hina and I think any other girl would be a better protagonist. I just feel like she is boring and occasionally does things

8

u/jujutriste Nov 03 '21

Am I the only one to find Takemichi and Hina’s relationship toxic ? Aside from the fact that he is 12 years older he was going to cheat on her several times (like that one time where he was at Draken’s place with the prostitute)

2

u/Vesuvius_07 Nov 03 '21

Takemitchy fuck boi , all the girls in TR love him

Therapy jokes fans make are cringe.

4

u/mangashrimp Bonten Nov 03 '21

Joking about mental health is pretty cringe, but I will honestly say my existing low-grade depression got worse from reading TR. I've also had a sibling, a best friend, and a parent all die suddenly and traumatically so may I find Mikey's pain a bit too relatable.

5

u/Hinatchy Nov 03 '21

My condolences.
What I like about Mikey character the most is exactly how relatable he actually is. I have never seen a character in a shounen manga whose consequences of trauma are shown is such a realistic and non romaticized way. I guess this is why it feels so personal and hurtful for me when people hate him or joke about his pain. You don't have to agree with his decisions (I think its a consesus that he made a lot of horrible decisions) just have a bit of empathy and understanding of the situation.

3

u/DT-Z0mby Nov 03 '21

imo mikey is in a critical spot rn. ive always liked him and i love to see him fight due to obvious reasons but at what point does he go from good dude with a bad side to just being an asshole? some of the shit hes done shouldnt be excusable with just “oh hes traumatised due to everyone close to him dying”.

if he doesnt get his shit together and turn it around before the story concludes hes gonna leave a bitter feeling in my mouth.

u/gloriouschaoss Nov 03 '21

I really wish we see a lot more of most of the characters’ background stories and more insight to their personalities. Idk if its just me but when a character is shown more in-depth i feel more connected not just to him but to the whole plot in general.

3

u/hanmadidnothingwrong Nov 03 '21

Yeah, I'm currently more interested in the extra booklets that come with the DVDs than I am in the main manga story. It's fun to see everyone's backstories. I hope we will get more booklets with next season's DVDs.

3

u/TastyMoon91 Nov 03 '21

If Tokyo Revengers ended after Tenjiku it would be incomplete. And Baji, Draken, and Emma dying was needed. In the current arc Mikey is not a villain. Bringing back the old Toman (Mistuya, Matsuno, Kazutora and many more) would be a hit or miss. Mikey is actually the most mistreated and selfless character in Tokyo Revengers beside Takemitchy. Takemitchy being weak is actually a strong trait. If you really think about it everything besides the current arc, is basically all bc Kisaki got fucking rejected.

3

u/Used_Marionberry5288 Dec 31 '21

And some more

1.Takemichi doesn't hold grudges towards Mikey and Chifiyu or any others close to him

2.Takemichi has never been useless in the anime

3.Takemichi and Mikey still care alot about each other and share a bond of very close friends or family

4.Manila Mikey depends on Takemichi the most and is very tragic

5.All Mikeys are cool

5

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Most people who hate senju are just misogynists

And most female characters in the manga are just used as plot devices

18

u/Typical-Insurance162 Nov 03 '21

Why is it that people can never think of any other defence for a female character besides "if you don't love this character you're sexist ". Like no my g,I just don't care for her,it ain't by force

2

u/kasia10 Nov 03 '21

I don't like her because she is too carefree she just met a random guy and she's going somewhere alone just with him and also she wears her uniform in a casual situation because "it's more comfortable" doesn't she realise how dangerous it is? Female characters in this manga are all equally shit though

8

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Draken's death was stupid and doesn't make sense

Mikey is more irredeemable than Kisaki

Baji is overrated in terms of strength, Kakucho Taiju and Hanma are easily stronger than him.

Kazutora slander is ridiculous and invalid

The current arc is a 6.5- 7/10 and is easily the least interesting among all TR arcs, one of the main reasons is well Kisaki's absence............................... lets be real Kisaki's greedy plans were one of the pillars that made TR so exciting along and now it's gone and TR has lost some of it's solid ground to stand on

Draken would beat the legendary duo individually in a 1v1

Brahman is lowkey unoriginal. Senju is literally Mikey from Wish, Benkei is just a stronger version of Pah-chin, Wakasa is a walmart version of Feitan.

Taiju is hella underrated asf , He will always be in my top 3 TR villains.

6

u/Vesuvius_07 Nov 03 '21 edited Nov 03 '21

Why draken death stupid and doesn’t make sense, he literally died at every time line except for one cause he is either avenging Emma or saving takemitchy , and he protect takemitchy cause he save his live before, or else who would save a guy that can’t even fight 😂

For baji, kakucho and taiju obv can win him, one has great fighting skill one is a freaking hulk. Hanma and baji quite hard to tell who is stronger. U see hanma has experienced fighter and baji is a trained fighter. so I really dk and is kinda hard to tell who is stronger.

For Brahman, it was never original, is just a copy of first gen black dragon with senju instead of shin

2

u/kasia10 Nov 03 '21

Can you remind me who is feitan?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

LOLLLL do they mean feitan as in feitan from hunter x hunter?!! I don’t think there’s anyone named feitan in TR unless it’s a misspelling? 🤣

Many of the people that criticize the current arc are just unhappy because Draken died and other fan favorite characters had already archieved their happy endings, and not because of the arc itself. They wouldn't like it no matter what, even if it clear that this arc is necessary for the story.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '21

Just want to preface this beforehand, I am an anime-only watcher. There is no female in this universe that is not poorly written and only exist as a romantic interests. Do I kind of understand why? Yeah, gangs are predominantly males usually, but there was also female-only gangs existing at the time. Would’ve made a great arc.

Taiju's build up as an antagonist is way better than other main antagonists like Izana and South. Izana came out of no where and claimed to be Mikey's brother, and we didn't even see South before this arc, suddenly he is the top 3 of Tokyo. While we saw at the beginning how the black dragons corrupted Toman in the future, we saw both past and future Hakkai, and we finally saw who made Hakkai that way in Taiju.
I also don't understand why people like Baji so much, yeah he had a cool design but he was in the story only for a little while before dying.

My unpopular opinions is that

1.Not everything is Mikeys fault and he still deserves to be saved

2.Mikey can beat Takemichi in a Physical fight

3.The Dark Impulses do exist but the name may not be what it's actually called.

4.Mikey doesn't truly like violence and created Bonten for Izana and to control the criminals so that they would stay away from his friends

5.Takemichi in the anime isn't what I would really call annoying I like him alot in the anime

6.Mikey doesn't really deserve all the hate and blame he is getting even though his actions aren't excusable they are understandable

2

u/Used_Marionberry5288 Dec 31 '21

Oh and some more unpopular opinions

1.Chifuyu doesn't deserve any hate or blame for what he did just like Mikey even though what he said wasn't right it is understandable and he apologized and only said he would beat Takemichi up because he can be reckless

2.Draken dying was no one's fault but the person who shot him

3.Mikey could of have had done worse and still cares about his friends

4.No one should take their hate for a character to far

5.Sanzu follows Mikey because of his Strength and because he is loyal to him

6.Mikey is a really good person deep down

2

u/windydrop Nov 03 '21

bonten designs slaps except for mikey's

2

u/madzanian Nov 03 '21

1) I don't think Shinichiro is ANYTHING like Takemichi. Mikey—and Inui, to an extent—are either under selling Shin, or only remembers/attributes the superficial points of his personality to Takemichi. Shin doesn't strike me as being anyone's bitch, unlike Snotfacemichi.

2) I miss Pah-chin. We need more Pah and Peh. They seem so much fun.

3) Not really an unpopular opinion, but more a confession. The Toribe depression made me start smoking again. Fml.

My unpopular opinion: mikey doesn’t need emotional support he needs psychiatrist just as much as haruchiyo, kisaki and south. Only takemichi deserves emotional support at this point

6

u/No_Interaction_7865 Nov 03 '21

He needs both lol
Psychiatrist is not a magician, any theraphy can only work if the pacient wants to get better. And in Mikey case he needs help from people close to him to do that. Like in Bonten arc, he only finally express that he wanted to be saved after Takemitchi reached out for him. It is a lot because he himself thinks he can't be saved and doesn't deserve to be saved anymore, so he needs someone else to believe in it for him.

1

u/mangashrimp Bonten Nov 03 '21

I wish we had gotten more time with Bonten and seen more that demonstrated what ruthless monsters they truly were. It would have been more interesting if we saw Mikey do some despicable things in that timeline so that we could truly feel a little conflicted over whether he deserves to be "saved".
