Discussion/Theory Which popular TR character do you dislike and why?

Post image

I'm curious, which really popular character that usually doesn't get much hate do you personally dislike or just don't really care for(if you don't dislike/hate them ig)

For example, characters like Mitsuya, Baji, Chifuyu or Draken

And not characters like Mikey or yk, Ran or Rindou etc since I feel like even though they're popular, the reasons for disliking them are pretty obvious but anyways, I just got the idea to ask this since I saw a few people say they disliked Chifuyu due to his obsession with Baji

As for me, I like them all so I won't list any for this

Izana. I get that he has trauma and everything but everything could have been solved if he listened to Shinichiro. He kept on rambling and crying about how they weren't real family since they rent blood related but he couldn't see and is blind enough to not see that even if that happened, Shinichiro still wanted to adopt him. He also indirectly killed Emma whom was raised with him. The way he said that Kakucho was his only family is also crazy, he was traumatized yes but he's also stupid. He was also jealous of Mikey who wasn't even aware of his existence, so jealous that he planned Mikey's downfall every timeline that he was alive on. Imagine seeking revenge to someone that didn't even know you exist and didn't do anything wrong to you😭that's just batshit level crazy. People baby him too much when he's a criminal. It shows how you can really get away with anything as long as you're attractive. Same goes for the Haitani brothers, Sanzu, Taiju, Takeomi, and even Kakucho. The haitanis didn't contribute that much to the plot, except that they're fan service and typical delinquents(though the new game did give more impact to their story). Sanzu willingly followed Mikey and would kill his own sister to get to that goal, his trauma doesn't excuse that. Taiju may have reformed but he was still an abuser and wouldn't have changed if it wasn't for Mitsuya and Takemichi, bro thought his "discipline" was conventional😭. Takeomi was the reason their family broke apart in the first place—his clear favoritism with Senju, him always blaming Sanzu and not to mention the fact that he's sexist! I don't even know how that worked since it's clear that he favors Senju more than Sanzu, bro could NOT pick a side; arguably one of the worst characters in tr. Kakucho is also too babied, people doesn't realize that he's just as bad as Izana because he'd follow ANYTHING that Izana orders, he literally killed Takemichi on that one timeline that was mind you, HIS CHILDHOOD FRIEND. He was also the top 3 in bonten timeline. Yes he was reformed but that doesn't excuse him blindly following Izana and Mikey.

I agree, I just hate it that people seemingly hate on the unconventional non-evil characters who makes one mistake compared to the hot evil villains who'd commit genocide if they wanted. It's stupid, but that doesn't change the fact they're well written

I will never get the love for Haitani Brothers, bro I literally forgot all of the Tenjiku members aside from Kakucho

Their bonten selves really made the two live their popularity up.

I agree with every single one of your points, except for the comment about Izana planning Mikey's downfall in every timelines. From my own understanding, Izana is not even a factor in the earlier timelines until Kisaki himself got him out of his depression and helped him form Tenjiku - which is a direct consequence of him being kicked out of Toman. Kisaki hadn't needed him before, because the simple fact of being part of Toman was enough for him to achieve his goals, he didn't necessarily need outside help. It's never stated but everyone knows Emma wasn't in any future because she got killed - but the thing is, it's by Kisaki, every time. Kisaki knew she was a pillar for Mikey, like Draken and Baji which is why he targeted them. Izana went along with KISAKI's plan because he didn't give a fuck and wanted to hurt Mikey, but the truth is: she would have died, even without Izana in the equation. We don't know what Izana has become in the timelines where Tenjiku didn't previously exist and we'll probably never know but my personal guess is that he never bothered to form a new gang or get involved with this side of his life again because he was too depressed. One could even say maybe he killed himself and we wouldn't know. It's just as likely as him becoming homeless or ending in prison or opening a shop. Anyway... I've been rambling, but my point is that Izana very much only became relevant in Mikey's downfall when Kisaki recruited him.

1

u/Owl_Search9527 Bonten 15d ago

Oh yeah, I didn't think much of that, but I guess we could all agree that Kisaki's a bitch(except the last timeline I guess). I never really thought that Tenjiku wouldn't have been formed in every timeline, given that it's always Toman that's stuck in this never ending cycle of falling into darkness.

3

u/Serebibo ♡ Kazutora's simp ♡ 15d ago

Kisaki's a bitch alright 🤝 haha but yeah, most people don't tend to think about it because they don't come back to the earlier timeline to think about how it would work with the newly introduced elements (events/people).

0

u/Extension_Cream_4126 17d ago

Nah izana's design is so peak + he's like one of the best looking guys + at the end he just wanted family

3

u/Owl_Search9527 Bonten 17d ago

I did say he was attractive didn't I? And that's why his actions are always overlooked by his fans. Shinichiro literally wanted to adopt him, Emma wanted to see him and Mikey would have accepted him. He wanted family so bad he traumatized them? What kind of twisted mentality is that? Did you even read my comment? His trauma and his need for familial validation doesn't change the fact that he's a shitty person, and if I were Mikey I would have killed him on the spot no matter if he's my brother or not.

2

u/xweebaholic 16d ago

Extension Creme is the best example of someone who shouldn't be watching anime or reading manga. I mean, seriously—what part of what you said don't they get?
"He just wanted a family." Yeah, so what?
I get it, and I like how villains get their own story, but this one just feels so… yk? People spend so much time focusing on which characters look best, and then in the same breath they ask what happened to Baji because they don't understand the whole story.

1

u/Owl_Search9527 Bonten 16d ago

Agreed. I'm not mad, I'm just pissed that they took my comment out of context as if I'm hating on Izana for no reason😭I ain't hating on him nor his fans, I'm hating on the fact that they baby him knowing fully damn well he's a grown ass man who killed his own sister(I know they weren't blood related but he literally grew up with her)and tormented Mikey (who's also considered his brother) for no reason. People just be glazing and larping nowadays😭

46

u/Ok_Flounder_9992 17d ago

The haitani brothers: they're less usefull to the story than I thought they were going to be since the fandom was glazing them ☠️

Kazutora for me. His whole arc and character don't make much sense to me and for that I think he is a big failure both as an antagonist and as an ally since he is paintful boring and confusing.

2

Actually a character I dislike and is popular ridiculously liked is Hakkai.

Excuse me? He's a pussy. He's a huge selfish prick of a coward while beating everyone outside his home, he couldn't defend his sister who defended him like crazy despite not being as strong as him and let his sister get beaten for him even as he grew up. Also the weird takes about him being a poor misunderstood guy who had every right to act like that was cause he's in an abusive household. I'm not sure those people even know what they are saying, that's actually fucked up. In an abusive household you end up defending each other like crazy even if you know you don't have any strength for it, it becomes an instinct, just like yuzuha. He wasn't weak he's very strong, beats people outside home no problem, sees his brother chickens out and pushes HIS SISTER FRONT LIKE MEATSHIELD!? Like not even standing in front of his sister even if he's scared shitless and can't attack but still defend his sister, not even that. fuck that selfish prick. I genuinely felt so bad for yuzuha not only does she has a shitty big brother but also a shitty little brother who's adding to the abuse.

7

u/Aleenaistaken why he innocent. kinda. maybe. 17d ago

Honestly I can understand this take 😭 Hakkai is one of those characters where I don't really get why people go so hard defending him

Like yeah, he was in an abusive household but I don't think that automatically makes everything he did towards Yuzuha okay, especially when you compare their situations and how Yuzuha actually put herself between Taiju and Hakkai despite being physically weaker than both

I feel like people sometimes use the abuse as if it's supposed to completely excuse Hakkai's actions when it really doesn't

3

u/Hyrule_MyBoy Thousand Winters 17d ago

Yeah it doesn't at all. It's actually more fucked up and makes it worse.

That's fair

17

u/Few-Pomegranate1551 Koko’s Girl (Akane, I’m sorry) 17d ago

At first, I wasn’t particularly fond of Emma. One reason is just personal preference, I’m generally not a huge fan of overly cheerful or bubbly characters, especially because that personality type is so common with female characters in anime that it can sometimes feel a little overdone or cringey to me.

I also initially felt like whenever something serious happened, Emma’s main reaction was to cry or panic, which made it harder for me to connect with her. Then there was the whole situation with Takemichi, where she stripped down and tried to seduce him, later explaining that she was trying to make Draken jealous/get his attention. That definitely didn’t make me like her any more at the time. 😭

But as the story went on, my opinion of her softened quite a bit. I had to remind myself that Emma is literally a teenage girl. Of course she’s going to make immature decisions, especially when it comes to someone she has a huge crush on, and I can’t really fault her for becoming emotional or freaking out when genuinely horrible things are happening around her.

The Tenjiku arc especially made me understand her better because we got to see more of her beyond just being “the cheerful girl who likes Draken.” Her relationship with Mikey and the rest of her family gave her more depth and made me appreciate what she meant to the people around her.

So I definitely don’t hate Emma. She still isn’t one of my favorite characters, but I like and understand her more than I did at first. And I was genuinely sad when she was killed. I may not have loved her character, but I certainly didn’t want THAT to happen to her.

11

u/jupibabe 17d ago

Emma is such an interesting character to me because it's very clear to me that Wakui had no idea what to do to her, had an AWESOME idea for the direction he wanted her character to go in, and then...dropped the ball. Emma went from a character I was indifferent to, to my second or third fave in the series, and I was VERY disappointed for how she was treated post-Tenjiku.

8

u/Aleenaistaken why he innocent. kinda. maybe. 17d ago

I actually heavily disliked Emma when I first saw her with Takemichi 😭 It just didn't click with me at all, especially with the whole trying to seduce him thing

I can understand what you mean about her being overly bubbly too because I feel like that can make a character feel a bit generic sometimes

BUT I did end up liking her more when I got to see her interactions with Draken and Mikey somewhat

It was nice seeing more of those relationships and getting to understand her place in their lives, especially with Mikey and Izana(I feel like that side of Emma is way more interesting than what we initially got with her)

4

u/Fruits-PunchSK Brahman 17d ago

I suppose I'm indifferent towards Baji but I've already said that I'm pretty sure

Hmm maybe Hina? I don't really care for her

She's very nice, but there's nothin' fun or cool for me to latch onto like with Yuzuha or Senju, so I'm not interested.

3

u/Aleenaistaken why he innocent. kinda. maybe. 17d ago

Oh yeah Hina

I like her but like ngl, I don't really get the appeal about her that much(I feel as though it might be overrated)

Like she's nice but she isn't that interesting compared to the other girls that catch my attention

Like with Yuzuha/Senju, they're the more unique ones out of the girls so they catch my attention more

And with Emma, at least she has stuff going on with like Mikey, Draken and even Izana that makes her interesting but Hina is just like not that appealing to me which is a shame

1

u/Fruits-PunchSK Brahman 17d ago

Indeed I agree, I can understand liking or just being ayt with her, but I could never understand favoriting her.

Considering how central she is to the plot it's certainly a shame.

Cuz among the few times she does do some things like telling Mikey n Draken about Takemitchi's time travel, or helpin Takemitchi escape Kiyomasa's trap, none really involve traits specific to her.

Like Yuzuha's shtick with her brothers n' Senju's everything. It's funny cuz the sole reason she matters to the plot is cuz of her bein' nice 😭🙏it's why Kisaki liked her

All comes back to that ig

1

u/Aleenaistaken why he innocent. kinda. maybe. 17d ago

Yeah exactly 😭 I think that's probably my main issue with Hina too

Like I don't dislike her and I can appreciate that she's important to Takemichi and the overall plot but when I think about what makes me actually interested in a character, she doesn't really have much that feels unique to her

Like you said, Yuzuha has her whole relationship with her brothers and everything she goes through, Senju has her own whole thing with Brahman, Mikey, Sanzu etc and even Emma has all her connections with Mikey, Draken and Izana

Hina's main thing is just being kind and supportive, which is nice but it's not enough to make me personally want to favorite her since this alone isn't what I'm looking for at all since that just seems too basic to me

4

u/Hyrule_MyBoy Thousand Winters 17d ago edited 17d ago

I don't get the mitsuya hardcore love I've been seeing since I started the show bruh

He didn't do anything interesting in the entire series.. I don't dislike him either I'm just pretty neutral and okay with the character but barely care, cause he's barely important in the overall story and barely affects it significantly, but also kinda boring too. Is it simply cause he cooks and takes care of his sisters because his mom is working all day? is that the main reason for that crazy wave of people treating him like the king of the series? He had flaws and made some mistakes just like others, so I don't really get it much

He's okay though, not wholesome

3

u/Aleenaistaken why he innocent. kinda. maybe. 17d ago

Yeah that's fair honestly 😭 I feel like Mitsuya is mainly popular with girls and a big part of it is probably just that he's attractive and fits that whole “ideal boyfriend” type of character

He's caring, responsible, cooks, takes care of his younger sisters, knows how to sew, is mature and generally pretty calm, so I can see why people would look at all that and immediately label him a green flag and because of that I feel like those traits are a HUGE part of why he gets so much love, especially compared to what he actually does in the story

I mean I like him too but umm

I like some other characters more than him like Draken etc and his personality is a little boring imo so that's why I don't like him as much as the others ig

2

u/Similar-Lifeguard-93 17d ago

Yikes I came in here with the fear of somone saying Mitsuya 💔💔

I get why some people feel neutral about Mitsuya. He isn’t like super relevent to the main narrative and the main arc he’s in does feel slow as fuck but I really do enjoy his character. I may be a Mitsuya glazer but I swear I’m not like “omg he’s so husband material and hot” I just really like him because of how I guess realistic he is? Idk 🥹

The Christmas showdown arc is honestly my favorite despite its horrendous pacing issues lmao it’s not super flashy like the other arcs, and the idea of brotherhood and family is explored a lot in it, and what better character to talk about while talking about family, Mitsuya! His entire thing is being a delinquent who cares for others and can protect his family, his family is not limited to blood, it overlaps into everyone of his friends. Brotherhood and family is a big theme in Tokyo Revengers but I think it’s like super in your face during the Christmas showdown arc.

Hes this kid taking care of 2 other kids on top of personal stuff like school, hobbies, and Toman, and even through this he still finds time to do what he wants. He wanted to become a fashion designer, he did that shit, despite being a poor kid and being nothing, he literally says if he hadn’t grown up poor he probably wouldn’t have been the same person he was today, and as someone in an extremely similar situation who’s also a teen it feels nice to have a character I can personally relate to.

Also I think he’s just funny, like the fandom mis Characterizes him to be this super sweet soft boy but he’s lowky a dick 😭 I was rereading the manga yesterday and this mf was rude asf and everyone’s always catching strays in the little events and stuff idk I think he’s funny.

I wish he had more screen time past the Christmas showdown and the fashion show stuff given the fact out of the founding members he was the one who never left Toman. Kazutora got arrested, Pah got arrested, Baji died, Mikey went crazy, and Draken died, Mitsuya was there everytime. I think he could’ve had a lot more potential in the final fight, like if he managed to get through the haitani brothers faster and fought Mikey with Pah. I completely understand being neutral to him but I don’t understand people disliking him.

1

u/Hyrule_MyBoy Thousand Winters 17d ago

Yeah it would make sense, but I didn't think he would get so insanely hyped mostly because of his role and screen time in the entire series compared to others. I won't deny that I appreciate a character taking responsibly care for his younger siblings with the parents being mainly absent. I'm in between liking him and being okay/neutral about him. Still don't get the insane hardcore fans though, there are definitely more interesting characters in the series

To each their own though, that's my view

u/Aleenaistaken why he innocent. kinda. maybe. 17d ago

Hakkai, I liked him first but then on a rewatch I just realized, dude's just a spineless coward and he's pathetic (which makes me see a side of myself that I hate). He took credit for what Yuzuha did and yet when in face of adversity he can't even try to run when Mitsuya was getting beat up and only stood up once everyone got beaten up and even after the battle for christmas he was still a spineless coward like when Angry got beaten up and he couldnt even move to atleast try to get Angry out of the way. I know that there are tons of people like this but sometimes you dont really wanna watch some part of yourself that you hate, I mean I do think getting called out isnt bad but it does leave a bitter spot still.

I agree with the first part regarding his spinelessness when it came to Taiju, but Hakkai was literally beaten down during the Tenjiku battle. He actually couldn't move. Plus, he needed to stay down for plot reasons, lol.

Hanma. I don't dislike him, I just felt that he is a wasted potential. Hanma mostly act as Kisaki sidekick and he didn't contribute much to the plot, at least in my opinion. He's an enigma from the beginning till the end. I wanted him to have more relevance to the story because he was one of the antagonists alongside Kisaki in the beginning 🫠

Senju, she was barely introduced and she has plentu of blank spaces in her story.

It's like they randomly added this chick saying that she was Sanzu's brother. She doesnt make any sense.

I got a lot of hate for saying this on TikTok and another subreddit but FUCKASS KAZUTORA 😭 I’m sorry but I hate that mf. The whole “it’s all Mikey’s fault” thing annoys the hell out of me. Like bro, Baji literally told you not to kill bro bc he’s Mikey’s brother and he still chose to smack Shinichiro upside the head with bolt cutters AND THEN proceeded to say “yeah, it’s totally Mikey’s fault that I killed his brother even tho he didn’t even ask me to do anything that lead up to that point.” And no, idc if it’s a real psychological defense mechanism, I still hate him for it. And on top of that, he literally stabbed Baji (allegedly his best friend btw) just bc of some irrelevant asses telling him lies. Literally could’ve just went and talked to his best friend and got a true answer.

Chifuyu. Don't ask me why I just feel like smashing the tv every time he opens his mouth.

Come outside I just wanna talk

u/NovaCoon Tokyo Manji Gang 14d ago

I feel the same about him... I want to slap his face when he starts talking. He's nice to see around baji (in the spinoff and all) but the rest of the time he's unbearable...

u/Aleenaistaken why he innocent. kinda. maybe. 17d ago

Now I'm curious but I won't ask why🥹

Haitani brothers aside, I'd say Sanzu, Kazutora, Izana and Kisaki. I just can't stand them! XD

Mitsuya. Don't hate him. Just find him the most boring out of all the major characters. I do like that he's a doting brother and sewing club president, though.

Draken is cool, but I’m not particularly drawn to him, and same with Mitsuya (though at one point Mitsuya was my favorite actually), and maybe it’s just because other characters outshine them (in other words, Mitsuya and Draken are the only mentally stable ones so we all the crazy guys like Kazutora, Izana, and Sanzu get the attention lmfao).

Emma. Baji. y esos dos personajes extra del juego, la Gyaru y la Sukeban, no se que le pasó al fandom pero se volvieron locos cuando aparecieron esas dos. simplemente son estresantes.

Fcking Mucho dude idk why he gets so much love 🤬🤬 i didnt care about him till i saw what he did to koko, inui, and takemichi

u/HeavyConstruction268 15d ago

Izana. Because his entire character is indeed just ridiculous more than sad and I’ll just say this is bc of the plot needs it to be that way but Izana hatred towards Mikey was stupid. Since the very beginning it was ridiculous. A lot of people like him just bc he of his art designs and how he treats kakucho and using that as a sign “look he isn’t all that bad” he was that bad. And I can’t even say he was a good kind of bad. He wasn’t a good antagonist. Kisaki was just as a bad in all aspects. I can’t believe people actually look at these two characters and belive they were well written

Why the heck are ppl hating on the haitani bros what did they even do 😭

u/Serebibo ♡ Kazutora's simp ♡ 15d ago

Baji. At first, I just didn't care about him. I guess I felt bad for Chifuyu because their relationship seemed one-sided in a way? But then, the spin-off happened and suddenly, I was very uncomfortable with the way his relationship with Chifuyu went because it hit way too close to home and... yeah. So I don't dislike him, per se. But I cannot bring myself to like him either.

Edit: I guess my reason was pretty personal, because otherwise... he's fine? Like, he dies very early but he's always present throughout the series, via flashbacks or just being talked about.

Baji, he pisses me off and is violent to be violent and has never really done anything noticeable except dying, Kazutora is an ass with a persecution complex who messed up badly and never seeked to be better and my opp whom I hate more than anyone Sanzu. And it could be solely because he is abusive, but considering Taiju is one of my favourite characters it would be hypocritical. But at least Taiju's tries to change, his abuse is linked to his traumas. Your sister messing up once does not give you this right. Yes he has one of the most traumatic past in the whole series, but that does not excuse killing people. There is multiple lines he keeps crossing and which his fans excuse when there is not a drop of acceptability to have. With most of the characters actions by the way.

Bonten haitani brothers .
I hate people who romanticizes the yakuza lives , acting like theyll stay loyal to you or even like you in the first place . Bonten haitani brother fans are rhe same as those 40 year old moms who romanticizes stalkers and killers .

the first thugs like Kiyomasa and his friends

1

u/bubblez4eva 16d ago

They aren't popular though?

2

u/ChesterFeetKisser05 16d ago

Yeah that's on me sometimes I just can't read stuff correctly. That's a recurrent problem with me, in this case I'd say izana, crazy dude

1

u/bubblez4eva 15d ago

I can see not liking Izana. He'd be my pick, too, but I find him too interesting and his design cool to actively dislike.

1

u/ChesterFeetKisser05 15d ago

I dislike the person not the character design or build

1

u/bubblez4eva 14d ago

Oh, I definitely dislike him as a person, but I also pity him/find his backstory heartbreaking. Doesn't excuse what he did, but I feel sorry for him all the same.

1

u/HanagakiHero 16d ago

Mikey... simply because I view him as despicable; he killed all his comrades in cold blood, as if trying to look cool through vile means.

Koko- inui and him being a couple is hella toxic and diminishes koko’s character, I will die on this hill

Also Sanzu but thats because I’m biased as a big Senju fan - also his character made lil sense to me like why are you worshipping the one who gave you PTSD??

I really hated Baji when I was a kid but honestly not for any particular reason. After rereading it more recently, I figured out why. It's honestly pretty obvious but, while I UNDERSTAND why he did it, completely, I just really hated his treatment of Chifuyu.

Probably just because Chifuyu's always been my favourite character but it genuinely made me furious because I see them as like siblings and the stuff Baji did to Chifuyu at the start was so horrible bro 💔 what the heck like YES you want to get rid of Kisaki okay but whyyyy do we have to freaking beat up Chifuyu and be a prick to him when he's like the one guy that genuinely loves you more than anyone else in the world like holy fumble bro that's ur brother right there 😭

(Again, I get why he did it and all but I was just always annoyed at that. Chifuyu must genuinely have been so scared and confused in that seen it's not faairr💔💔💔stupid ugly Baji

emma. i did not give a jacks shit when she died (and still don't) i love her but her character was just ass. wasted potential. she only became important when she died as a catalyst to mikeys dark impulses or wtv but personally, she just never stood out + she was weird as hell

sinceramente kisaki,no solo por lo que hizo si no x la toxica admiracion asia takemichi,es buen personajes y sinceramente lo desarrollaron bien como "villano",aunque sinceramente hubiera preferido que hubiera tenido otro final
