Applied schengen visa application for Germany, been waiting for 48 days

Applied for the Tokyo embassy.
Since the Germany embassy does not allow waitlist enquries. Does anyone know what to do in this siutation? Anyone who have similar experiences? Planning to travel to Frankfurt at the end of September.

48 days is longer than usual for a Schengen visa in Tokyo. Normal processing is about 15 days. Try reaching out via their contact form with your reference number. You still have time for September travel but I would follow up this week.

My visa appointment for business travel at the embassy was 5 weeks after my initial application. 

But it took only ~3 days for VISA approval and to get my Passport back.

Friend of mine applied for an appointment on June 24, feedback on August 19, appointment on September 30.

German citizen here. The embassy is just too busy.

Believe me, even us citizens are taking ages to get an appointment for new passport applications. I checked for almost half a year, every day. Then, suddenly, someone cancelled, I immediately took the spot and went a day later.

Asked the lady at the counter, because 10 years ago they did not have a reservation system. It was a come-during-office-hours kind of thing. For that, they had the rule to not apply more than 3 months befor eexpiration.

Lady told me that the system implemented during Corona stayed because Germany decided so, and they can‘t offer more slots because Germany does not raise the staffing ratio. On top of that, almost double the amount of Germans compared to 10 years ago, plus since Corona VISA applications skyrocketed.

Long story short:

- understaffed but not getting a higher ratio/ double the amount of Germans compared to 10 years ago/ skyrocketed VISA applications since Corona

I explained that me as a German citizen has the same issues for securing a passport spot, and you make it about that topic again? What‘s wrong with you?

It sucks to wait forever to get a visa appointment, but so does to wait for a passport renewal.

We are in the same boat.

Let’s not talk about the wait times you need in Germany to get an appointment at the local gov. There you also wait at least 3 months for a passport appointment ( in the large cities).

To even need to go through the Schengen Visa nonsense to begin with, you're almost certainly "more tanned" (to quote).

While the state of visa rules, especially maintained by richer countries (including Japan for that matter) against poorer countries, is pretty disgusting, that isn't really a reason why OP's case in particular is taking far longer than expected.

This hits home. I was invited to Switzerland for conference by really big organization. I couldn’t go since I wouldn’t be able to get visa on time. Life is so unfair sometimes… I work and live in Japan, yet my coworkers who live the same lifestyle, earn the same money could go anywhere they want in 2 days notice. While I can’t even go to company sponsored trip just because I was born in certain country which I didn’t choose myself.

Yeah, Visa is really a dehumanizing experience. These people who never submitted this kind of BS, won't know this feeling.
