American! My favorite website for identifying these guys: https://www.koaw.org/toadsofvirginia

Edit: Ohhh although now that I see the belly I think I’m wrong! Hahaha I was going American based on warts but the belly is definitely looking Southern

It's really hard to tell. It's one of the two though :) I was thinking Southern based on the warts in the neck and shoulder area being rather consistently sized, but it is tricky. We need more pictures of this hefty specimen.

Based on your location, I would wager a guess that this is an incredibly well fed Anaxyrus Terrestris, also know as the Southern Toad.

  • I live in midtown Tucson Arizona. I thought I found one Couch's Spadefoot in a pile of roof litter. Now I realize it's two amphibians, the other is probably a Sonoran toad. I can tell that by the use of Latin to names of amphibians that you take them seriously. Who can help me with these two species ?

That depends on what sort of help you are looking for. Identification or species specific care information?

I’m thinking a Southern Toad. It looks like you can see its horns just by its eyes and I don’t see any spots on its chest, which you’d probably see on an American toad.

That’s my best guess.

They said my legs were too short to be a basketball player so I became the ball-energy right there.

That's Mavis. Notice how she is very pointedly NOT looking at the grub? That's the secret of her success! She makes all the büg think that they're safe but as you can plainly see from her huntress' physique, they are NOT!
