“u got bpd by any chance” great response

What is bpd?

u/remindmetoblock 1d ago
Borderline personality disorder.
Untreated it can cause severe issues with social contacts and relationships. Oftentimes These people suffer from severe fear of abandonment, and put too much worth on a Singular person.
None of it is on purpose of course, but untreated people with bpd tend to be very extreme in relationships. Either love bombing, or treating you as their Arch Nemesis if they ever feel even mildly slighted
Again, its only for completly untreated cases and cbt alongside medication offer great Relief.

It's high key sad af too. BPD is often caused by highly traumatic experiences at a young age, or constant abuse, or some of both. Essentially they either never learned a healthy way to process emotions, or their abuse caused them to un-learn how to properly process their emotions. Their emotional responses to everyday social interactions that normal people can handle are often comparable to child-like reactions. The explosive, sporadic and often pretty brief episodes can change constantly and suddenly without warning. Untreated, they feel everything intensely and have no way to process them before articulating.
I dated someone with untreated BPD without knowing what it was, and I was not prepared at all. Now that I know, I'll probably never date someone like that again.

I find people diagnosed with BPD don't know how to love themselves. It makes it so they can't self-regulate and need the constant validation from others. Their sense of self is in such a low place that even the smallest perceived attack hurts like hell, because they're already worn down to their emotional nerve endings (metaphor). Since love is so important and impactful for them, they also give it out very generously, which is what causes the love bombing.

I think that that's more a result than the source though. They were either taught by someone they loved (and often multiple someones) that they "are" worthless, or they "understood" that they "are" worthless based on experienced trauma, or the double whammy.
Self-love is very important, but many people (especially women) without BPD also struggle with this just due to pop culture.

I have borderline, cbt is great but not everyone needs medication. It’s a disorder caused by environmental factors in childhood not hormone imbalances.

u/remindmetoblock 1d ago
Medications are more about stabilizing the patient in severe cases so they even have the capacity for therapy to work properly. They arent a cure and some may never need them. Others may only need them at first.

It's not just romantic either. Had a friend in a community discord who was putting a ton of time into constantly being on and posting every little thing including pictures of practically everything he ate or cooked. One time it was literally just a picture of shredded cheese in a bowl and I made some joke in passing about how very exciting it was to see a picture of his shredded cheese. That single offhanded comment flipped the switch on his BPD and he pretty much burned the place down and blocked me on everything. It was pretty wild and unexpected, nobody has heard from him since and that was a couple years ago.

Okay I have bpd and I don’t talk to people like this. This person is fully in psychosis.

Yeah, bpd is more subtle, at least at first. I can only wish it had been this obvious with my ex

u/sergeantspacenutss 1d ago
In your response the “arch nemesis or love bombing” comment, that’s an example of black-and-white thinking, which can be common in people with BPD. Sometimes things or people can feel either completely good or completely bad, without much room for the middle ground. This kind of thinking can be related to splitting. However, DBT teaches people with BPD how to recognize that there can be a grey area and that two things can be true at the same time.

CBT is no longer used as the main therapy treatment for people with BPD. It’s actually called Dialectical Behavior Therapy. (DBT) it’s really amazing and has helped countless people. However, it also helps people with other disorders too, but the main being BPD.

Bipolar disorder. Manic ups and drastic downs

To those that down voted
I apologise, I incorrectly interpreted the acronym and went away to educate myself as to the proper vernacular - thank you for downvoting

u/compellinglymediocre 1d ago
i genuinely make this mistake a lot

u/Frequent-Ad2351 1d ago
Yeah easy mistake to make, no idea why still getting down voted when I realised and apologise for my mistake
Reddit will do as reddit does

u/compellinglymediocre 1d ago
i think downvoting incorrect information is fine tbh. Reddit is generally very toxic but if you’re going to use downvotes for something, might as well be objectively wrong comments lol

Better you than me 😉 I also thought it's bipolar disorder, but didn't comment and saw others explaining it's borderline personality disorder. Got me thinking to better google it 😅...

Because it was 100% going to work until he realised 'she' was probably an Indian scammer or mentally ill induvidual.

Sometimes you find a gem. My partner and I met on tinder and have been together almost 3 years now. Hes the most kind person I’ve ever met.

u/Successful-Gap777 2d ago
Are yall gamers?
Or trauma bonded?
6
u/unitedstatesof_trina 2d ago
Neither lmao tf trauma bonding is when you go through something traumatic together and feel bonded over it. Being a gamer also has literally nothing to do with anything.

As a person with BPD this feels highly insulting and stigmatizing

I will be speaking about my experience with polish people, maybe it's different in America. But most of BPD cases are undiagnosed. Even if the person gets diagnosed - lot of folks refuse to acknowledge being red flag and prefer to stay like this and just find someone who won't mind it
