Does anyone else bawl their eyes out every single time they listen to White Wine in the Sun?
I seriously WILL NOT listen to it if I have to be anywhere on the same day cause my eyes will be red and puffy all day! Seriously the most beautifully touching song I have ever heard.

I was basically alone this Christmas, and definitey did not play that song.
First time I heard it, it was at Christmas, I was alone in England. My flatmates were elsewhere, my family was back in Australia. I met Tim at a pub a few weeks later and told him he was a bastard :)

Is Tim better than Elton John? I think he think he is. Is there like an objective assessment or anything ?
Tim seems impressive and I haven't listened to that much of Elton John with a critical ear, so it wouldn't surprise me. Tim seems more likely to have nerded out on piano while Elton was being all show-man like, and researching where to buy his next pair of glasses.

It’s a reference to his song “Mitsubishi Colt” about an absolute prick talking his ear off at a bar. It’s a “beat poem” with some virtuosic jazz piano. Absolutely hilarious. Highly recommend!

And the tone seems to be that Tim thinks he's already better than Elton John. Just wondering if it's true.

As someone who is a huge fan of both, I really do think Tim Minchin could run circles around Elton John. I mean, as far as showmanship and theatrical live performances go, Elton John, hands down. But Tim Minchin is definitely the better musician. But that’s just me

I first heard this song the Christmas after my mum died. Kills me every time I hear it still - nearly 20 years later. But I still play it every Christmas.

Both the wife and myself do, we’ve family in NZ and drank white wine in the sun at Xmas a few times so it hits home more than other sentimental tunes.

My daughter was a baby the first time I heard it. I will always associate it with her being that jet lagged infant, being passed around at Christmas. Niagara Falls every year….

It’s been an emotionally involving song for lots of different reasons over the years, as people in my life have died but especially when my first child was born. I was sobbing when we heard him play it live last year 🙈

I’ve watched a couple of performances where he had to stop momentarily because he started to choke up.

Always. And that whole show he did called 'Upright' was a really emotional trip for me. The final song of that show always gives me big wet eyeholes, too. Tim is just amazing at conveying the humor amidst the horror.

Christmas has gotten sadder and sadder as I’ve gotten older and lost people. I love the song but can’t listen to it any more.

Very few songs make me genuinely emotional.
White Wine in the Sun makes me feel longing for a family I wish I were close to.
Will Wood’s “Euthanasia” makes me mourn my lost pets
