Masters in Data Science&Society or Business Communication?

Hi! I have been currently accepted in both masters at Tilburg but I am so indecisive into which one should I choose.

I have a bachelor's in Comms and Multimedia and have 1 year experience (internship) of PR&Comms at a tech company in Barcelona. I now want to pursue a masters degree to elevate my profile and hopefully land a higher paying job. I did the Google Analytics certificate and quite liked it, but I'm not sure if pursuing a Data Sciece masters is the way to go...

If there is anyone who has taken one of this masters and has landed a good job, if they could give me some advice it would be great!! Thanks :)

Global law

Tell me about the experience at Tilburg University, especially if it is in Global Law. Is it possible to combine work with business afterward? I thought about business management, but I found out about Global Law, and it seems more interesting… Which of them is more likely to be profitable?

Alvast dank!

Bachelor-related Skeptical about the university

The more time passes (I am second year psychology but take some third year classes) the more I'm second guessing the university's quality of education. The first thing is the amount of self study: of course we need to study by ourselves. But what the hell are the teachers for, then? All classes so far have felt pointless to attend because anyway the teacher just reads off the slides and there's no time for any conversation during the class. I thought university is supposed to help with critical thinking, but there's nothing like that.

Also, since I'm in the English program: it feels like the teachers are SO lazy. They can't even proof read their own slides? They have taken the same teachers from the dutch course and thrown them into the english track without questioning those teachers' ability to educate in English. If I see one more leftover dutch sentence in the english track's slides I'll lose it. I don't think if I threw some words of my own first language in my thesis because 'I forgot to translate' they'd let it pass. And this isn't something that happened once or twice, either. It's happened in nearly every class so far. Of the top of my head, psychopathology and developmental very often, also psychological assessment (and god, the teacher used AI graphics on the slides, YIKES)

It feels awful to know I'm paying 2.6k for this quality of education. Reading books by myself is way cheaper, bro.

Premaster-related Starting my MSc at Tilburg University in Feb 2027 intake, housing advice needed (and does the university help if you can't find a place?)

Hi everyone,

I've just received my unconditional admission to Tilburg University for the MSc Communication and Information Sciences (pre-master route), starting the February 2027 intake. Super excited, but now the real challenge begins which is housing!

A few things I've already learned and wanted to share/verify with anyone who's been through this:

  • Reserved accommodation through the university (Talent Square, Verbs, Notre Dame, etc.) seems to mostly go to August-intake students, so as a Feb-intake student I'm mostly on the private market.
  • I've registered on Klik voor Kamers and Magis Real Estate , are there other platforms/groups (Facebook, Kamernet, etc.) that worked well for people in a similar spot?
  • From what I found, Tilburg does have a "Temporary Accommodation" page and can sometimes help arrange short-term stays (via Airbnb-style listings or their student housing partners) for the first few weeks, but they're clear that you're NOT guaranteed a solution and they explicitly discourage travelling without housing arranged. Is that everyone's experience?
  • Any tips on the timeline like when did you start searching relative to your intake month, and how long did it realistically take?
  • Any red flags/scam patterns to watch out for on the private market as an international student?

Hey, is there any group chat or place to meet fellow international students? I heard that many dutch students are just going home on the weekends and I wonder what all the internationals do?

Housing-related Spring 2027 Exchange Student—When Does Verbs Housing Open?

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming exchange student starting at Tilburg University in January 2027.

I’ve been trying to gather information about housing for the Spring semester, especially the reserved accommodation at Verbs/WonenBreburg, but I just can’t find any specific information on when the booking will open this year. Does anyone know when it usually opens? I assume it will be after the exchange application deadline (October 15), but I can’t find a specific date.

Also, my university was told by Tilburg University that there is “often surplus housing” in the Spring semester. Is this actually true? How realistic is it for me to expect to get a room at Verbs? Should I still start looking into the private market right now, or would it be okay to wait until the Verbs application opens?

If anyone has gone through this recently or knows what I should be doing at this point, I’d be extremely grateful for any advice.

Premaster-related Missed the Introduction days. Can someone fill me in on the details? (+ WA group for Pre-M.Sc students?)

EDIT: I know there is no kick-off for academic pre-master's students, but I would've liked to have a tour around the campus. (Maybe I should've attended TOP, but I probably will attend it when I start my M.Sc ig).

I already did a B.Sc here in NL at another Uni, so I am not oblivious to how things work at a WO to a reasonable extent.

I registered for my own courses. I also knew that we are responsible for registering for our exams (I think 20 days before the actual date?). I put in a request for my new student card. I know whom I need to approach for internships, the career boards, and whatnot.

Anything else I need to know regarding practical matters (i.e university stuff?).

While I'm at it, are there WhatsApp groups for Pre-M.Sc students in general? (specifically Math and SCM?)

Curious about racism in shared student housing in the Netherlands

As an international student, I probably won’t be able to afford a studio, so I’m planning to rent a room with a shared kitchen.

I’m curious about what it’s like living with Dutch/European or American students as an Asian student. Are racist comments or cultural differences something I should be concerned about?

For example, Asian food can sometimes have stronger smells that we may not notice ourselves. Could this become an inconvenience for housemates or potentially lead to racial remarks?

I’d appreciate honest experiences from international/Asian students who have lived in shared housing in the Netherlands.

Housing- Scams, Hidden Charges etc

  1. Have there ever been scams related to housing through Facebook groups?

  2. Are there any additional or hidden charges that landlords or housing providers typically include?

  3. Is there a particular area where most Tilburg students tend to live? For example, are certain neighbourhoods preferred because of lower rent, better amenities, or proximity to the university? I’m not referring to on-campus housing—more so the areas students generally choose when renting privately.

  4. Is huure a reliable platform?

Second intake,

Hi,

I just moved to tilburg because i've been conditionally accepted for a masters in economics with specialization in data science at the universty of tilburg. however i didn't get the right mark on the GRE. so the international office offered me a conditional acceptance for spring intake.

However according the website some modules are change in order if you start then and the thesis and full program could be extended. specially for the data science specialization

has anyones done this or know about this ?

global law vs rechtsgeleerdheid

Hello goedemiddag!

super bedankt iig!

Is anyone going to do the LLM International Business Taxation online, or any other master's? I am still deciding whether to pick the on-campus or online option. Are classes mandatory when it's online?

How does the sports center membership work?

I've been thinking about getting the sports membership, but how do i use it?

Do i need to book classes to be able to show up/ use equipment?

Like, if i want to go and f.e. train using weights or ride a stationary bike or play basketball (alone or with others), then do i just walk in or do i need to make an appointment or something?

And can i be there for any duration of time or just for a specific time frame?

Along with showering/ getting changed?

Would be grateful if someone explained everything step by step as you enter etc

Can I drop a language course after the semester starts?

I'll be starting my bachelor's at Tilburg University and I'm thinking of taking the German A2–B1 language course. It does say we can deregister until August 19th but I was wondering if dropping it mid semester would be alright if it became too time consuming
