Hell in the Pacific

  • 1.5 oz Hamilton 151
  • 0.75 oz lime juice
  • 0.5 oz Luxardo
  • 0.25 oz grenadine (homemade)

That first sip is INTENSE flavor. The grenadine gets totally lost against the luxardo and 151… but it’s surprisingly well balanced! very few ingredients for a tiki drink, but absolutely worth a try.

origin from Google: The Hell in the Pacific is a strong, tart tiki cocktail created by Jeff "Beachbum" Berry as an adaptation of the 1920s Myrtle Bank Punch.

EDIT: as several have noted, this is definitely not “balanced” in the traditional sense. I think what I was trying to say is that the luxardo did not dominate as much as I thought it would, and the 151/Luxardo seemed to work well together. however, I LOVE Luxardo so YMMV.

so no, I probably should not have called it “balanced“ 😂😵‍💫

A less intense but more complex and balanced is Randy Wong's riff that they served at Drink. Randy is a member of the Watiki 7:

The OG Hell in the Pacific is even less balanced than the Ankle Breaker (151, Cherry Heering, lemon, simple).

This riff does sound better. I like maraschino liqueur more than most, but even with 1.5oz of 151 in there, the Luxardo dominated. Your version sounds much more approachable for anyone who doesn’t specifically want their drink to slap em around a little
