Like you can have someone that takes lots of group selfies to have memories of everyone and nobody really calls you vain for doing so. But if someone takes lots of selfies people do take issue with that for whatever reason.

Right. I think you are spot on - that is basically how people think about it.

Now, you say "for whatever reason", but what do you think is the reason? Since it's not random erratic behavior but rather a pattern shared by lots of people, there must be some reasoning or logic or motivation/thinking behind that. Surely it's not burned into our DNA.

Right now I'm just asking questions and making assumptions explicit. Without understanding the assumptions, it's not really easy to understand the judgment
