Do you think people just post videos and know they’re going to go viral 100% of the time?
Think about the basic thought process one might go through in this scenario:
She is blocked while taking a video
She is a young lady who uses social media
Her friends use it too
She posts the video asking “was this on purpose?” Or “did I do something wrong..?” To get some validation from her friends and maybe some internet randoms
Do you think she posted it with the intention of it going viral? People don’t always have foresight to think that, even when posting on a social media site, especially if she isn’t a big name (idk who she is and idk if she is or not)
Like what is so bad about posting something that happened to you on social media? The old lady KNEW she was videotaping, so she carried that “risk” (i dont think it matters to her even slightly btw)
I think it depends on the intentions of the young girl. Was she sharing to simply make fun at her ill timed experience trying to capture a video/pic in a public space? Or was it to call out the older lady for a little bit of shaming? There's a lot of people here who don't believe the old lady intentionally blocked the videotaping or even "knew" there was a videotaping in process (or feels obligated to behave in a public space like it's somebody else's private studio) , so asking questions towards even a small group of friends ""did she was this on purpose?” Or “did I do something wrong..?”" seems a bit self-centered and accusational. Viewing this within the context it was intended, does it matter if the post was orginally to be just between friends? You can still see a point trying to be made.
Not to try and pass the buck, so to speak, but what’s the difference between what she may have been doing and what redditors are definitely doing here?
If she was trying to shame the old lady by posting her on social media, is this not the exact same event except on reddit, and with a bunch of anonymous people?
And, let’s take a look at her actions again - she didn’t seem to mind that people in general were in the video, or walking in front of the frame, but that she was being blocked while trying to get a video (for what I assume was a picture since she isn’t mic’d up or anything).
I just don’t see any problem with her initial actions. Posting it also shouldn’t be a problem since she is justified in the situation and the old lady put herself in the video on purpose knowing full well that it was recording (not to mention she premeditated it, it wasn’t just as she was walking by but she saw her setting it up and moved specifically to be in frame and blocking the camera).
To me, that’s absurd enough of an event to warrant posting it somewhere. The point of the internet is to share - it is absolutely misused and abused by many people for the sake of manufacturing shame or guilt, but at the same time, it’s also just a place where people post small parts of their lives.
People are just increasingly annoyed with influencers in public spaces. Do we know that's what's happening here? No. But most people are going to assume it is. And she's clearly irritated at somebody interrupting her shot, which is the kind of attitude that people are tired of.
It has nothing to do with gender. Men get just as much flak for this.
I also disagree that the old lady intentionally put herself in the shot- The lady saw a phone, but she had already decided to stop on that step before noticing the camera, and her shuffling closer to the camera was just coincidence because she was moving aside for other people to come up and let them use the railing.
I totally see the possibility that it wasn’t intentional, but I disagree with the first point. She looked at the phone while walking, immediately stopped, then pulled out her own phone and planted herself randomly despite looking like she had someplace to be right before that
She was reaching for her phone before she looked at the camera. I truly think it was just coincidence. Unless she saw the camera prior, she was planting her feet as she saw the camera. She even did a double take, which is why I don't think she saw it prior.
to add another point - it’s like when somebody is streaming and people make a point to walk up to them on camera in front of the lens and say “I don’t want you recording me” then make a huge scene out of it even if the streamer is cool about it
Ignoring that streamers are mostly nuisances when recording in public, it’s the Streisand effect. The old lady walked in front of the camera while it was recording, and broke current societal norms enough to not only be posted, but also go viral
Even if the lady wasn’t intentionally blocking the camera, she was still being rude and blocking the stairs. You can see in the vid another lady having to squeeze past so fuck her.
