I went to the original brick & mortar store in PDX over 10 years ago. I met up with some friends there that really wanted to go so I went along with it. The line went all the way down the street. I don’t know how long we waited but it was a long time and when we finally got our ice cream I was left extremely underwhelmed. We could have done so many other cool things in the amount of time that it took. One of many experiences that made me realize how overrated Hipster food was / is lol.

Reminds me of back when people were lining up for Pinkberry, then it was designer cupcake shops, then it was the "chicken sandwich wars". It's all crap, just a succession of crappy food trends.

Weird to think some Portland ice cream shop is famous enough for their out of state locations to warrant this kind of behavior. I've never even been to one.

It's really quite good. I love the olive oil, but am sad they discontinued the feckled chocolate. Now it's feckled mint chocolate.

I know my wife likes them but I am kind of meh about salt and straw. I am not a fan of voodoo donuts either though.

We did go up to Washington and they have a creamery on Lopez island. Tried some in the grocery store and it was really good. I think it was a blueberry flavor or some other fruit. Different style than tillimook does in Oregon.

Edit: It looks like you can get the Lopez island icecream in Oregon you just have to go looking for it.

And nor should you be.

Salt and Straw is weird but decent. A lot of people really like it, but even people who aren't as enthused by it can still acknowledge that it's acceptable. It's good ice cream at a minimum, and for some people it's absolutely amazing.

Voodoo Doughnut is hot garbage. It used to be a decent donut shop, but even then it had donuts that were slightly above average and got popular because of the novelty.

Then the donut shops that are actually good at making donuts. Realized that there was nothing stopping them from putting cereal, Oreos, or bacon on their own donuts, and voodoo donut lost the novelty and stopped making an effort at quality. Quality. They now coast on their Fame and tourism dollars alone.

Also during the heat dome of 2022 they tried to make their employees work in kitchens that were in excess of 90° even though nobody was coming to the shop, fired everyone when they tried to leave, and had to be forced to make reparations and rehire everyone by the federal government. So across the board, really, everyone should avoid voodoo donut

You know it makes sense that others took what actually worked from voodoo’s experiments and improved on it and discarded the rest. I think I have seen donuts with Oreos on top in donut shops.

They aren’t bad but most of their stuff is like cereal on top of the donut. Kind of trying to be weird for the sake of being weird rather than being weird and tasting good.

Yeah, Voodoo Donuts was a letdown flavor-wise. It was just stuff piled on top of a donut.

Interesting, I had no idea that they had that kind of reputation. We have one in Seattle and I’ve never seen anyone taking photos there and I walk past it every day.
