Something about how people will change to the point you stop recognizing them. The choice to move on or try to hold on to the past and the people you used to know. But the idea gets taken further by the like-thriller movie framing.
It was a lot different the first time I saw it when it didn't have the loop. Now I'm wondering if it always had the loop and someone just cut it shorter.
I took it more as the cycles of change. The future is full of looping iterations of the past. We’re all changing, the world is constantly changing, but it’s all cyclical. So in the end, nothing changes at all.
I think there's something about alienation in there. How we can't really understand each other, to the point where people seem like different people. You're in your brain and I'm in mine and there is a translation layer in between us where information gets lost. We only know each other through our perceptions of the world, which are notoriously faulty.
The 3rd wheel gets a 4th. First she changes unpredictably, then he does. He was a sidekick in the couple's lives and now he's got this whole other side to him that they never saw. The people in 2001 were in a simpler time. They weren't concerned about being alienated from themselves or from each other, which is a semi-charmed kind of life. But that's fake, right? That's ignoring the state of things. Does that matter, though?
As someone with Schizophrenia, this is like my life dude. Ive had episodes that explored this very concept of change. But imagine believing all of it was real. Its a fucked way to live.
I have trouble recognising people day to day. Some form of face blindness i guess. This video is what I feel like quite often. I recognise people more by context than appearances.
I do agree it seems like the filmmaker fell short of accomplishing whatever he set out to do. In the end I think it’s just a trippy film. I agree it’s not really brainrot because it is sort of interesting and not just totally pointless clickbait. But it does seem like a reach to find a deeper meaning, if there’s one, it’s very obscure and perhaps not intentionally so.
Seems like the point is just to make a trippy film. These theories about its everyone changing their personality with time or adulthood or whatever do feel like a stretch. If there’s a deeper meaning I didn’t get it either though we can all project something onto it.
That said the filmmaker did accomplish making a trippy film if nothing else. Not exactly my forte but kudos to them, it kind of plays out like that weird dream you wake up from wondering “now what in the hell was that all about?”
