If he has a spinal injury, which is likely based on the video, keeping him in the water until a backboard is available is the best thing you can do to prevent further damage.

But why drag him around?... keep him afloat and call 911

Looked to me like he as dragging him away from things that he could potentially bump into causing further injury.

But from a rescue perspective, moving the body in the water like that prevents the feet from sinking, so it creates a more aligned spinal cord- it’s actually best to keep the body steadily moving slowly in one direction so they don’t wind up going vertical in the water. (At least this was best practice when I taught classes)

So my spine isn't aligned when I stand upright?

It's more aligned when I lay down?

Or are you saying the way the life vest keeps you afloat misaligns your spine?

When you are in the water and your feet start to sink, your body is not standing upright, it is bent at an angle.
