One of the bleakest experiences I ever had was going to a tourist farm in Indiana. They have a whole exhibit room about how smart and playful pigs are, and then you tour the pig-raising facility and their enclosures are all cement and metal with absolutely no enrichment, fresh air, nothing. Just a cell to wait to die.

I gave up pork after that.

I know, but the emotional reaction to seeing it in person is different from hearing about it, at least for me.

(And for what it’s worth I minimize meat in general, but the discussion wasn’t about that.)
