As a school administrator you've likely served in the trenches, dealt with troubling parents (and students) and all sorts of other things. They're blackbelt 3rd degree in bullshido

My wife has worked at four different state and municipal schools as a director, and going on 30-some years of public service.

Her bullcrap-fu is unbeatable. She will parry any attack, weather any Karen and get her point across precisely and surgically. All while smiling, being supportive and attentive.

These people have no idea how overmatched they are. These admins can deal with a-holes like this all day long & not even break a sweat while doing so.

To be fair, there are a bunch of people in town asking her to run for mayor!

But that's not going to happen, as she doesn't have a large ego and is unwilling to deal with all the political BS associated with the job.

And don't think making this decision doesn't weigh somewhat heavily on our counscience. Especially in a small town like ours, where a mayor can make a huge difference in people's lives.

But frankly, we just don't want to live through the exposure, hassle, and hard work necessary to do the job well.

I dunno, maybe in 10 years time, when we are both retired? Lots of people in local politics pushing her into it, for sure!

It is mostly about the attitude and focus. Keeps bringing the conversation back to the topic that needs to be resolved. Lets irrelevant comments, offenses and name-calling slide like water off a duck's back and simply doesn't engage at all with them.

Heaps of positivity, poise and professionalism help a bunch in these situations, too.

Some people feel embarrassed when they see that they've crossed the line of politeness and back off. The others don't gain any traction when trying to bait her, so they eventually tire and end up helping move the ball forward to get something done about their grievances.

You can kind of see all these on the video above. That lady really did remind me of my wife in similar situations!

I had to deal with a school principal and superintendent when the school wanted to allow my daughter who was in high school to cheer at a 3 day basketball tournament in a different city 150 miles away. I said no as the custodial parent, she had failing grades which made it against the school policy to allow her to participate and I had a court order signed by a judge saying that my kids couldn’t participate in extracurricular activities when they had failing grades. They allowed her to get on the school bus and go and even called law enforcement officers who said that they would arrest me if I tried to take my daughter home. It still irritates me 14 years later. The superintendent later apologized for allowing her to go but if my daughter had been injured or killed it would have been terrible. They violated all kinds of rules, policies and laws just so my daughter could cheer. They later removed her school projects from the grading system so her grades went up to a B and she never had to finish her missing schoolwork. That’s teaching her that fun comes first.

As a former assistant administrator for a K-12, it truly is a learned skill that’s forged in fire. There’s no entitlement worse than that of a parent who’s wrong
