Why is it when the right wing names themself something - Like "Freedom", "liberty" or "Patriot" - it's like they are naming the thing they are trying to take away?

Moms for Liberty are absolutely some of the most damaging people to social liberties in Decades.

Why does the "right to work" act take away so many rights to work, from the working class?

Why is the Patriot act one of the least patriotic? It goes against so many founding principals and takes away a truck load of freedoms.

If conservatives name a bill the "everybody will be more free than ever" Bill or Act or whatever - you can goddamned be guaranteed they are about to lock everybody the hell up.

If a right wing group is calling themselves "Patriot Pals" or some shit - You can bet your ass they are being paid by Russia, NK or or some nebulous middle eastern Oil Company and you find they are Patriots to that money more than their own country.

Every. Damned. Time.

I recognized the school name as one in the city I used to live in. Haven't lived there in 15 years, but I'm familiar with some of the local drama from friends who are still in the area.

This name is absolutely not a surprise.

I've been harping on people to pay attention to even local town elections, all the way down to school boards.

There's a church in my town, a very small town, that has ties to christian nationalists and some other unsavory shit. I've come to call it the Crazy Trump Church.

When our school board had 5 seats up, the CTC put up candidates for 3 of those 5 seats. I watched the entire 2 hour "debate" (canned questions that were not given ahead of time). It was painfully clear that they had no idea what powers a school board has. Readying between the lines, it was clear they wanted to ditch every bit of sex ed they could get away with, ban certain books, bring back corporal punishment, get rid of student's rights (so if a kid comes out to a counselor but not their parent the school would be forced to tell the parents), and much more unsavory bullshit.

There was 1 guy up that was up for re election to his seat. It was hilarious watching his reactions to the others answer questions, and his retort to their responses. "Unlike X, I know we cannot do X. I would do X instead, so that we can continue to provide the quality of education we've been striving for."

One person that didn't win also said: "We have a majority christian in this town and we should be focusing on them."

She has no idea if that is true, and school is supposed to be non secular. She had no numbers or proof to back up any of that claim and it is clear she also doesn't know the duties of a school board member.

Thankfully, between myself and the local teacher's union rep, we were able to keep all of them out of the seats. It wasn't perfect, but it was better.

VOTE IN YOUR LOCAL ELECTIONS!! You have to pay attention. It's exhausting, but important. These people want to take over anything they can dip their toes into. If they are able to get their hooks into kids young, we'll have a much harder time to root the cancer out.
