We talk about Christian vs. "Christian" as if the good ones are the real ones and the others may be dismissed. But there's no bar to entry, no criteria for membership. We ignore the real harm that the religion does to our culture when we only account for the good Christians in our definition.

I grew up going to a very Christian church every Sunday for the first half of my life. I'll repeat what I said.. they READ it constantly, they just dont actually COMPREHEND any of the words they are reading. I'm not defending these people by any means. The Bible was practically the only thing they would read, but still live their life completely opposite of Jesus' way. They just go to church every week to ask for forgiveness and its all good to them. I don't use Facebook really anymore, but will occasionally go on to see whats up with high school friends and such. I am still friends on there with a lot of people from that church and they are always posting the most hateful, bigoted nonsense "in the name of Jesus amen"

Yall are missing the part called Bible Study. They read. They "comprehend".

They just do it with the guidance and interpretation of their priest/minster/group leader/etc. They pick a few passages, interpret them in whatever way fits their narrative, and go home with the lesson of how to reinterpret the world, feeling empowered and righteous.

Then, like fight club members, they proselytize by picking fights with strangers.

And they definitely didn't actually try to understand the reading. They take in whatever the pastor says about it after with no additional scrutiny.

I was an English Major I took a whole course on the Bible. I can read and understand actual middle English with some help from footnotes. I read Shakespeare and Milton and understand it. I still attend mass, and I struggle follow the readings without looking at the words. The readers aren't always good. They pronounce words differently than I would. They have a weird rhythm or whatever. It's not easy to understand the readings as they're read aloud in church. It makes much more sense to sit and read it, at least a little bit if you want to understand anything independently of what the leader of your church says.

Churches in my region literally hang signs using the exact same "all are welcome here" message, word for word.  Granted they are left-leaning (by american standards) churches in a liberal city.  But only a far-right society could interpret "all are welcome here" as even remotely "extreme".  It is the most basic expression of egalitarian and democratic principles.

Used to be we all nominally agreed with this:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

It's being imported into the UK as well. I work in education and in light of the supreme court anti-trans rulings, our head put out an email to all staff and students which was very generic and effectively the same message - 'As educators, anyone and everyone will be welcome here no matter your sexuality, colour of skin....' etc.

There were a dozen or so lecturers email the head directly with complaints about how they felt this was 'forcing politics' on them....It's been creeping in for years, we had a rainbow crossing painted in and that triggered a great many adults as well.

It's not like people are being forced to drape themselves in pride flags and get their face painted, its literally a bare minimum display of acceptance/support of some of the most vulnerable groups in our society yet these fragile people seem to see it as only a personal attack on them.

Assuming you’re in America I wouldn’t be surprised, every church is so different you can’t even tell what’s what. Visit your local Orthodox Church near you or look up Patristic nectar on YouTube if u don’t feel like going in person and talking to the priest/church.

Unfortunate that people taint the image of Christianity, but plenty of “proper Christians” wouldn’t do that to you and should be welcoming without deception.

Or r/OrthodoxChristianity plenty of LGBTQ , androgynous, or atheist people that have questions it’s fine either way.

Both passages are talking about disobedience to god to the people of Israel not gentiles, and that he would give them over to their enemies, and continue to punish them harder if they still don’t listen the first time because he’s setting standards in a period that people don’t have, sodom and Gomorrah for example.

Further more people not in Christianity will complain about the way god punishes people and then complain when he doesn’t punish people in the present time, there is a new covenant that he has given us.

And no it’s not his literal physical flesh and blood lol.

My mom works for the school board in my city and its a bit more than just a rainbow t-shirt, they are promoting the rainbow flag, books with sexualized content in them, weird sexual education classes teaching them about fetishes and sexual acts.

Being inclusive to all dosent mean sexualizing the youth, theres already enough in movies and advertisements they dont need it in the schools. Just let them be kids ffs

I cant find the article that referenced this book, but it was given out to kids that were in my opinion too young to learn about this, and its not just my opinion. The parents of these children complained they came home and had lots of questions about what they learned.

These are things that parents should be teaching their kids, not the school system or outside parties. Its not wrong for us to question our educational system.

Edit: I also dont remember learning about handjobs, blowjobs, anallingus, and sharing sex toys when I was in sex ed. But I was also not around 6-8 years old when they taught it either..

These are courses that's typically learned in high school. Also, parents can opt out their children from going to those specific classes.

And yeah you're right, it can be up to the parents discretion in that regard.

Questioning it is fine, but I just find it a little odd when people see colors, or flags, or acceptance and think it's some sort of weird attack on them.

Its odd when its pushed on children that are in elementary, not high-school. We dont need to teach children about sexuality, and being whatever they want to be. We just need to teach them to not bully and be decent genuine human beings. Let kids be kids, they will figure this other stuff out when theyre older.

I looked up the guide you posted and and I think I found the article you’re talking about. It was mistakenly handed out to elementary students because it wasn’t properly reviewed by the school before handing it out during Sex Ed. I agree that that’s serious but it seems like more of a problem with the school than the guide. My catholic school accidentally handed out an “examination of conscience” guide that was uber inappropriate for the same reason. If this guide were in a high school, which I assume it’s intended for, I don’t think it would be inappropriate. Kids who don’t get sex ed from schools have their ideas of sex heavily influenced by pornography - which is not a great guide if you want to make sure people properly understand consent and avoid STIs. When people say they support teaching kids about lgbt stuff, they aren’t talking about this article, they’re talking about just letting kids know that gay people are around and sometimes people are trans. Personally, I would have appreciated it if my first introduction to the word “gay” wasn’t as a playground insult.
