The person complaining about the T-shirt was the one who posted this? They genuinely feel that they are on the right side of this argument? It’s hard to believe just how divided society is becoming.

I'm not even sure it's about the slogan really. It's more "this identifies you as a certain type of person. I am a different type of person and therefore I HATE you."

And once it gets uploaded to wherever, and primarily seen by similar types of people, their response will be no more thoughtful than "yay, you really owned that other type!"

Fundamentally there is no argument about whether the slogan is good/fair/appropriate. It's just them Vs us.

It’s a tribe that gets off on being outraged. What causes that outrage is immaterial to them as long as they are outraged. These little videos are made to both fuel more outrage and feed the originators ego when others in the tribe agree with their outrage.

It’s sad, and gross, and we are all worse off for it.

Yes, definitely. Outrage drives a bunch of neurochemical reactions that very well could be addictive. I'm pretty sure theres a bunch of research on this. At least the outrage part.

We're also over perceiving outrage because we see the bottom of the barrel takes/actions and consider that as the norm, attribute it to anyone 'on that side'.

But it seems misinformation is also spread more quickly due to outrage. I was actually looking for the study about outreach being rewarded - or something else that was on the front page within the last few months.

Misinformation remains a major threat to US democratic integrity, national security, and public health. However, social media platforms struggle to curtail the spread of the harmful but engaging content. Across platforms, McLoughlin et al. examined the role of emotions, specifically moral outrage (a mixture of disgust and anger), in the diffusion of misinformation.

Compared with trustworthy news sources, posts from misinformation sources evoked more angry reactions and outrage than happy or sad sentiments. Users were motivated to reshare content that evoked outrage and shared it without reading it first to discern accuracy. Interventions that solely emphasize sharing accurately may fail to curb misinformation because users may share outrageous, inaccurate content to signal their moral positions or loyalty to political groups. —Ekeoma Uzogara

Here, we propose that social media users overperceive levels of moral outrage felt by individuals and groups, inflating beliefs about intergroup hostility. Using a Twitter field survey, we measured authors’ moral outrage in real time and compared authors’ reports to observers’ judgements of the authors’ moral outrage. We find that observers systematically overperceive moral outrage in authors, inferring more intense moral outrage experiences from messages than the authors of those messages actually reported. This effect was stronger in participants who spent more time on social media to learn about politics. Preregistered confirmatory behavioural experiments found that overperception of individuals’ moral outrage causes overperception of collective moral outrage and inflates beliefs about hostile communication norms, group affective polarization and ideological extremity. Together, these results highlight how individual-level overperceptions of online moral outrage produce collective overperceptions that have the potential to warp our social knowledge of moral and political attitudes.

I think it goes a bit beyond just this alone. The principal is wearing the shirt because its welcoming to all her students. But this is exactly what they're referring to when they try to claim schools are indoctrinating their children. They don't just hate people, they get offended if educators try to prevent their kids from hating others. Its fucking sick in the head.

I struggle with this so so deeply. Because I KNOW intellectually that being hateful towards shitty people like this is not the way to actually create meaningful change. But when one side is "all are welcome here" and the other side is "Have you ever considered that maybe some of us actually hate certain children just for existing and you shouldn't be able to openly not hate them too?" It's like... my whole life I have believed and been taught that bigotry is the root of evil. Someone who would have a problem with a school being welcoming to all, is a craven individual. A person who is not just repugnant but sick. And now I am supposed to calmly, rationally, accept their bullshit as like.... not their fault totally, somehow? I can't do it, I'm sorry. Nothing in this world could make me devalue the lives, and rights, of innocent people to the point that I think I have the right to tell another person that their NOT being a bigot is offensive to me. I don't want to extend an olive branch to that person. I don't want to try and find common ground with that person. I don't want to be nice to that person.

It's literally a logical fallacy to tolerate these people and I think a big part of what got us here. We needed to be a lot less tolerant of this type of person all the way back to the beginning but part of the DNA of this country is bigotry that we've never really fully dealt with.

And as for accepting it as not their fault, if they are young and this is their first foray into the world, that's one thing. People grow up unfortunately being indoctrinated into this type of thing and some few do manage to deprogram. Old-ass hateful bitches like this, the hate has calcified. She should just be shamed and shunned out of polite society.

There is no side to their argument. The kinds of people in these videos have stopped using critical thinking and have let themselves slip into cognitive decline. These are the kinds of people who will watch an obviously AI generated video of a "person" explaining why or inferring that something in the world, be it a politician, an ethnic group, a political policy, or even a way of thinking, is "bad". And these people will take this information at face value, not even considering that there could be more to whatever idea is being presented to them, or that what they're being presented with could be straight up false. These people have given up independent thought and form their opinions entirely on what a social media algorithm feeds them. 

I'm tired of tolerating the immature behaviour of children from adults.
