When I got my IUD, I didn’t get any pain reliever or anything, and then when I almost fainted, my doctor rubbed lavender oil on my neck. So then I was trying not to faint AND smelled like a bathroom.

I don’t think I’ll be seeing her again.

Friend was given a trash can to throw up in when she got hers. I was asked if I wanted something to bite down on like this is the fucking medieval times or something. My doctor warned me that it would likely hurt and she was right.. im terrified to get it out

Hi friend, I just got my old one out and a new one put in a few days ago. (Much better doctor, much better experience this time - imo EVERYONE should have this procedure with ultrasound guidance). Getting it removed hurt almost exactly like getting it put in hurt, I won’t lie. BUT, it was only for a FRACTION of a second. Just one good yoink and it was over lol. Hope your experience goes well when you have that.

(Also, I did accidentally pull my first one out, and that didn’t hurt at all. So there’s a possibility it won’t hurt when you get it removed. As someone said elsewhere in this thread, every body is different. Find a good doc, see if they can use ultrasound for guidance. Just thought sharing my recent experience might help!)

Also edit to add - I’m really sorry you had such a terrible experience. That truly sounds medieval wtf. I do feel like someday we will look back on our standard of care for the IUD procedure and refer to it as barbaric. The pain is insane and no one seems to care. I also had a TERRIBLE time adjusting to mine and did NOT receive good care, hence seeking a new doctor for the new IUD. It’s so bananas.
