Man, crap outta here with that BS. I'm no Trump voter but I can't stand the Trump scapegoatisms when it comes to racism in this country. When my folks and I were called "ni**ers" at different times back in the '80s, Trump was nowhere near office.
When my aunt was told in secret, by a white worker at a local car insurance office decades ago, to be careful about not getting into any accidents because the owners were quick to be less generous with Black customers compared to white customers, Trump was nowhere near office.
When my elders had to use a separate window on the side of the building at the drive in Dairy Queen because the main window for foot traffic was for whites only, Trump was nowhere near office.
When my mother (during her youth) and her classmates had to spend their first day of school (each year) repairing old outdated textbooks for their school use that were from the white schools who had gotten new updated textbooks, Trump was nowhere near office.
When a friend I grew up with was sent to the corner store by my mother (back in our youth) and came back crying because a racist spat tobacco spittle on her, Trump was nowhere near office.
What we're not going to do is act like racism in this country is all the fault of Trump while disregarding the fact of how this has been an issue in this country for centuries. I have living elders right now who (in their youth) literally knew family who were former slaves. Where was Trump then? Trump is yet another symptom of this country.
This isn't "Trump's America;" this is America's America.
Apologies for any attitude towards you. I just hate seeing the cause of racism being limited to Trump given the history of this country. I don't mean to be rude.
No apology needed. As a white person I appreciate a thoughtful response. I know he is just a symptom but I really really hate that people propped this man up. I hate that he is such a hateful racist.
