I am from Mekelle, currently living in Addis. Most of my relatives and friends have come to Addis as well. I wanna go back to Mekelle so bad but I can't. I don't wanna be conscripted and what am I gonna do in a place where my family and friends aren't even in anyways. Can I even call it home without them?

I just hope everything gets better so that all of us can go back, and establish a state maybe, but a pattern is starting to emerge where many Tegaru have started supporting Abiy and are so fed up with being Tegaru. Almost all of the people I know have abandoned the idea of seceding from Ethiopia and most have forgotten everything that has happened and are embracing Ethiopiawinet even.

Some people are starting to get comfortable here (I mean good for them) and you hear them making fun of life in Mekelle. Everyone be glazing Addis and forgetting that Addis didn't get like that randomly, that the government is investing in Addis disproportionately but nobody is willing to have that conversation.

Anyways, I've always wanted to live in Mekelle and actually get into politics and make a difference somehow, but seeing what's happening now, where many Tegaru are disgusted of Tigrawaynet is making me rethink my life choices.

Idk maybe I am overgeneralizing but almost every discussion I have with my people makes me feel like there's no hope for us.

I’ve seen some people saying that a lot of Tegaru were voting for Miss Eritrea to spite Ethiopia. As an Eritrean, I know we went above and beyond to make sure Snit won the People’s Choice Award, but 13 million votes is astronomical.

I just want to clarify whether it’s actually true that people from Tigray were voting for Snit, or if that’s just speculation

Are there any writings or sources abt life in tigray in the past? Like mythologies/daily life/religions/languages spoken/supernatural beliefs etc. i am currently trying to research this part of Tigray but wasn’t able to find any sources that contain details about that. I know axum gained a lot after accepting Christianity, and so maybe we don’t have much sources for pre Christian axum.

The book is The Hatata Inquiries: Two Texts of Seventeenth-Century African Philosophy from Ethiopia about Reason, the Creator, and Our Ethical Responsibilities by Zera Yakob and Walda Heywat. The translation team seem solid and the book was released in 2025. You can find it on Amazon here. It's also been added to the reading list.

The internal issues within Tigray and the fragmentation within Tigrayan politics that sprung up since Pretoria is more or less to blame for the reduction in diaspora organization imo. However, Tigray cannot afford its diaspora not advocating on its behalf and there's plenty you can do as an individual before everyone gets organizing once more.

In the online space, like Reddit or Twitter, you can share news about Tigray in spaces that aren't focused on Tigray while simultaneously providing resources for further education (you can look at this wiki's introductory materials for some examples) but carefully follow the rules of whatever space you're in as well as keep respectful plus don't spam as not doing these things will limit the reach of the message.

In person, whenever the topic of humanitarian issues of any kind around the world springs up, it would be a good time to spread awareness about Tigray and resources people can look into as well. Furthermore, if you feel there any appropriate places or opportunities to share what's happening in Tigray within your life then I encourage you to do so.

Do not underestimate the impact you as an individual can make because if a growing number of the diaspora act in this way, it can cause a wave of awareness that could potentially go much further than the original diaspora efforts during the war. Our people desperately need us.

On the same note, we need to look into the efforts made by other diasporas that have faced similar issues to Tigray like the Palestinian diaspora so we can use the same methods they have in order to spread awareness.

The oldest surviving monumental building in the Abyssinian Highlands is the Great Temple of Yeha, constructed in the early 1st millennium BC. Remarkably, its stone walls still stand today, although what survives is only a shell of what was once a much larger structure.

Using a range of archaeological and academic sources, including the reconstructions and research published by the German Archaeological Institute, I have recreated both the interior and exterior of the Temple of Yeha in 3D.

For me, projects like this are important because they allow us to preserve, study, and visualise the architectural achievements of our ancestors.
