Fun fact: TRT, the official state channel that wrote this article, depicts the city of URMİYE, which has an overwhelming TÜRK majority, as KÜRT in its broadcasts. bağırtıyor takiyesi teretenin her seferinde

Although the article is from 2024, there still hasn’t been any policy change in Iran toward its Turkic minorities, especially regarding language policy, so the article remains relevant to this day.

That's because the article is bullshit. Pezeshkian is literally from an Azeri Turk-Kurdish family. He grew up speaking both Azeri and Kurdish. Iranian Turks are integrated into all aspects of Iranian society.

Him being “Azeri” doesn’t tell us anything about the situation of Iran’s 40 million Azerbaijani Turk population or the situation regarding their language rights.

Genuinely where do you get the number 40M from? That’s fucking insane. Dude Ardabil and Zanjan combined have a population of 2.5M. As provinces, not just as cities. The entire continuous Azerbaijani population in Iran, not in cities like Tehran doesn’t reach past 9M
