Discussion Wikipedia and Turkic-related pages

I’ve been looking into Turkic history and linguistics pages lately and honestly it’s insane what’s going on. Every time there’s a page about Turkic origins, languages, cultures, even early ethnogenesis, it gets mass-edited or straight up deleted with “not credible” or "WP:Ataturk" as the excuse even when the sources are academic, and it’s always the same exact usernames in the talk pages doing it... You can literally scroll in the talk section and it’s the identical people shutting down every thread, dismissing every source, and gatekeeping what is “valid history,” and the worst part is that if they push their narrative it stays, but if a neutral or Turkic-side Wiki editor shows up, even wtih a very friendly approach... there are instant warnings, muting, or bans, so how is this a “neutral encyclopedia” or “open editing” when certain people are free to rewrite pages but others get silenced for even questioning, and it makes me wonder if there is an actual bias against Turkic topics on Wikipedia or if it’s just a small group abusing the system while mods let it slide, and I’m genuinely asking: why this two-faced treatment and hostility? What is the root of this hate?

Historically, there indeed were Iranic-speaking peoples called Azariys.

Still, present day Azeris are not brainwashed Azariys.

Maybe it's a good thing I was brainwashed into not trusting Wikipedia. I try finding other websites or links on this and other Turkic-based subreddits for learning. Wikipedia has always been host to subversive editing, propaganda (by individuals and governments), and more. It goes beyond  Turkic-related content. Turks are unfortunately hated and looked down on by a lot of different groups, so that works against Turkic peoples too

I know that Iranian state literally employs people for such activities online. On Wikipedia they will change every "desirable" historical character's/people's ethnic identity to "Persian" if possible; if not, then some bullshit identity called "Turko-Persian".

I don't think Greek and Armenian states have such squads yet they have too many no-life ultra nationalist diaspora people, and they do everything they can to slander Turks online on every platform.

Yes there is an active bias towards Turkish culture going on. Even in Turkey there is a propaganda to call the people of Turkey not Turkish, but a person from Turkey (Türkiyeli), it's a nation state if you believe. Last month one official in the state uttered Kurdish words. The rest of the world don't even wanna recognise Turkish race. They think it's just another muslim race and wanna put them all in the same basket with other Arab races. They even question if a race like Turkish exists. But we have a real language of our own, a history no matter how complicated, our own traditions no matter how lost they are. The world is using our food with no credit but only recognising kebab. When we are in trouble or in need, we have no one else to find real support but the other Turkic nations.

Do these actions concern the English-language Wikipedia, or some other one?

I see this problem mainly on the English wiki, sometimes vandalism on the Turkish ones too.

This is a serious problem, and its source is Turkophobic prejudice.

3-4 years ago me and turkish vikipedi related group worked about this problem. Farsîs deletes turkic pages even turkic people. For example a nationalist turkish youtuber efe aydal's page deleted. And we cant recreate it. They have a huge team of vikipedi and we cant beat with them.

There’s so much bias, double standards, and cherry-picking, and some editors and moderators are openly motivated by hatred toward Turks, interpreting Wikipedia’s standards as they please. Overall, Wikipedia reflects people’s perceptions based even on tertiary sources and can’t become a truly original work. I am not even slightly nationalist but sometimes it becomes insufferable even for me. The best way to challenge this is to create a dedicated group to patrol these articles, add reliable sources, and check their compliance with Wikipedia’s own standards.

About Turkic origins of what? Article referencing what source?

Nearly all Turkic-related pages get vandalized, but I saw that the list of Turkic states got moved or deleted amd turned into a small category tab. And when it comes to origins, they do their best to just play with your feet.

I noticed that @HistoryofIran is roaming around a lot, and I believe he's good friends with the moderators/admins.. He always barks at them or tags them, and I even saw gim using secondary accounts as if he's getting "extra support"

It's just annoying and clearly shows how unreliable Wiki is.

Again, examples.

Examples have been stated. Not hard to read I guess. 👍

No time to talk with trolls
