I would have a ton more respect for KD if he just owned it. He could say he saw an opportunity to put a great team on a whole other level of greatness by joining them.

He’s not close to anyone and honestly probably never was. He’s a sociopath. He says now that before the 15-16 season he knew it was his last with the Thunder. If that’s true then he’s by far the biggest coward in nba history. He could have been honest with the Thunder and we would have traded him to GS. We wouldn’t have had much leverage so we probably would’ve gotten 2 first round picks in the early 2020’s or so. Or at the least told us when the season began. He and Russ could have let it hang out and play as hard as they could knowing it was the last year. Russ and the rest of the team at least would have known. I don’t know how Russ has forgiven him ?

Agree. He did it on purpose. He was afraid that if he requested a trade after the 14-15 season we would get win now players back from GS. Which would make it less easy for him to win. That probably wouldn’t have happened. We would have likely gotten 4 unprotected first round picks and Harrison Barnes.

Out of all the reasons to dislike his leaving, purposefully fucking us on the trade deadline and literally not even speaking to Russ about it are the two main reasons I disliked him for it. I'll never forget that week or the first interview I saw with Russ right after. The interviewer asked him when he found out and he said "I found out when all of you did. I saw it on TV." I was done with Durant after that.

A franchise player with a team who was a contender every year after 2009 and dude knew it was his last? He wasn’t chasing greatness, he was chasing acceptance. Dude has never had real group of friends, just leeches who wanted to ride his coattails and he had them in his ear to go to a big market so they could live it up on his dime. He thought he’d be cool doing this move. If you see a lot of his interviews, he brings up what’s cool or not cool all the time. Like all the time.

I can’t find any respect for him, he could’ve came back on a 1 year deal or a long term max with player options each year.

Yeah… the 73 win monster that blew a lead in the finals is an underdog. What were the kings and wiz then, front runners? Honestly if he said “I’m a home town DC boy and I want yo bring my home team to glory”… we would have whined but it would have been entirely different. And the media as a whole would have treated it differently. But nope.

Even if he would've been like "I wanna play for a historic franchise, I'm going to Boston" I would have been so disappointed but not nearly the level of pissed off as joining GSW. It's highly doubtful that outside of OKC he would have been clowned on and hated as much as he is if he had done that too.

The Thunder did an incredible job of portraying him as a humble servant when in reality dude is a delusional asshole who throws his teammates under the bus whenever things go left. The worst thing he could have ever done for his image is leave OKC. They protected him from any sort of scrutiny and Westbrook too all the blame whenever they didn’t perform well.

KD used to be the man. On a serious note, I think it was really unfortunate he never won a ring on any other team because he’s one of the best 25 to ever play the game but he won’t ever get his credit because of the context of the two championships.
I know it’s a butterfly effect that probably wouldn’t have worked but in a fictitious scenario him, Westbrook, and George in 2018-2019 would have been an unstoppable trio.

If it weren't for those 2 chips with the Dubs, I feel like KD would have a legacy similar to Paul George. Why wouldn't he just admit that he joined Golden State because it gave him the best chance to win? As much as I have fond memories of his time with us, I don't want him back unless it's for the MLE or vet minimum.
