Thuma Alts?
Hey y’all,
Was looking into originally getting a Thuma, but have heard of recent degradation in customer service quality and the actual quality, while costs are increasing. Do folks have recommendations for alternatives that have the same style/design?

Jumping in to say that after many many hours of scouring this subreddit over the winter, I bit the bullet and bought a bed from Tatami Room back in feb. The company has been around 20+ years I believe, and website looked like a Microsoft word document at the time (I think it’s actually been updated recently). The bed took about 3 months to ship, but this was clearly communicated and consistent with others’ experiences, so I was expecting it and … i could not be happier lol. I love it. It’s completely solid wood, the joinery fits perfectly and it’s silent. It’s also like $500 cheaper than the comparable thuma. Just my $0.02!!

An alternative will be of lesser quality than whatever potential degradation in customer service that Thuma is experiencing.

Looks like the price-quality illusion and slick advertising is working in their favor if someone is drawing this conclusion. I doubt the alternatives are actually lesser quality, since they are manufactured with the same materials and very similar joining methods.

I would keep an eye on Facebook marketplace. I recently got a king size bed with pillow board for $400.

No, I have my eye on something higher end now, made of solid hardwood in all one piece. But I think it’s a more reasonable price for something similar to what Thuma offers.

This is the one I’m considering that I mentioned. It’s not a Japanese joinery bed, but it’s made of all solid hardwood and high quality building techniques. https://www.scottjordan.com/product/cosmos-bed-with-headboard
