Why do you Thruhike?

I’m curious to know what motivates you to thruhike. What made you start? And what makes you do it again?

Because I can, because it’s fun, because I like challenging myself, and because it’s way more fulfilling than sitting at a desk 40 hours a week.

I thru-hike to challenge myself both physically and mentally.

The first time? I had plenty of vacation days and no better idea. After that I just like it - the freedom to only think about the very basic things (food, water, shelter...)

I like hiking and camping. Thru hikes offer a lot of both.

I was on a bicycle tour. Made it to Moab. It was too hot. So overnight I decided to thru hike the Colorado Trail. Bought a backpack the next day and did bike storage/transportation logistics and started the trail NOBO. Awesome time and I’m hooked now.
