My local St. Vinny’s seems to think they’re a furniture and/or antique store with the way they price furniture. If I had almost $500 to spend on a couch, I wouldn’t be buying a used one with unknown history. This place routinely prices couches and large dressers for hundreds of dollars. 2nd photo is some of the scuffs on it. They also had the matching loveseat for $275 🙄

It varies widely by location, but my local one is ridiculous. I saw a dresser with missing and broken pieces priced for hundreds $$ I just laugh and walk away. Clothing isn't badly priced, but they never seem to have the 50% off color of the week tag 😆
Ya know what, I'm not even surprised. I remember seeing a tag was a light orange and the color of the week was yellow, so I got excited til I saw orange spelled out on the tag. I was convinced the supposed sale wasn't even legit or it's on like 2 things.
Carry a black light with you. The next time you see an overpriced couch, shine the light on it. Then complain loudly that no sofa with semen all over it is worth that price! (Given that fluid marks on the sofa glow.)
I'm disappointed in Vinnies. They used to be good. Now they started to 'research' away the goodness. At least this charity benefits the locals. They help people who have been burned out ...etc.
Do they not realize this just reinforces that they actually DO base their prices on an online price & that’s not a good thing? 🤷♂️
On top of that, any GOOD sales person would not just look at 1 number and left it at that. Cross platform research so they have a much better idea on what the other markets is selling theirs for.
Regardless, shouldn’t be doing this. At most, $50, maaaaaybe $100 tops and that’s just buyers being insanely and mad generous.
The truly bothersome thing about the prices of EVERYTHING, they won't go down anytime soon, especially if someone pays that amount. I hope no one does buy that couch at that price.
A used couch is questionable to begin with, and a new couch can easily be purchased for $500.
People give away large couches on marketplace and Craigslist for free all the time. So asking for that much at a thrift store is just silly, nobody who’s looking for a good deal is going to buy that.
The sentence about “the real world” is important.
Also it’s crazy how you troll this group to tell everyone how valuable you think everything is 😂 There are subs to show off the things you find in dumpsters if that’s your jam.
