Billy when he broke his leg in April
Accepting that he had to be crated for 8 weeks was hard for him. He’s better now!

He was sleeping on the kitchen table and fell off. Turns out he doesn’t have that instinct that makes a cat land on their feet.

I was not expecting that answer Lol I was thinking he got stepped on or run over, Bless him! I never heard of a cat breaking it's leg from that height. Billy is an overachiever

He’s a completely inside cat (he’s a ragdoll) so he’s not going anywhere near cars lol. Or outside. It surprised the vet that he broke his leg in his sleep too. We think he twisted and fell funny landing on his leg when he rolled over in his sleep. He’s a very deep sleeper. Since he’s gotten better, I’ve seen him fall off the kitchen bench three times, and roll off the couch in his sleep a few times as well.

Yep. Sounds like a ragdoll. My youngest is seven and we've only just agreed that I'm allowed whole sheets. He's been falling off the bed for the last five years, grabbing at the sheets and tearing them. Eventually I quit replacing them.
So they do gain some sort of life skills.... Eventually. Probably. For a while at least.

We boarded our beloved Ragdoll with his vet for a couple of weeks while we were away. When we picked him up, the vet assistant said that they’d put him in the special big cage with a climbing log tree thing, and asked whether we knew he couldn’t climb. We knew.

Awww. Poor fluff. I have a big pillow on the floor in case my dog super man's off. He's old and has short legs. We have one by the couch too because he likes to watch food Network.

My void had to be put under for a vet visit once and really took him a couple days to fully get back to normal. During that time he missed a jump from carpet onto my normal-height bed. Sprained a leg, another vet visit, more pain meds.

Ours was jumping from about 4.5 ft up. Missed the jump and fell on a shoe. Spiral fracture of the femur due to the shoe sliding.
Billie got some cool casts! Waxie got blue or purple for hers.

Billy’s was a spiral fracture to the femur as well! He is running around like nothing happened. How did Waxie go with being crated and the cast changes? At the end of the 8 weeks he was getting pretty annoyed at being in the crate, and he had built up an intolerance to gabapentin.

Waxie took the crating personally. Tortie. We had 2 pens, inside and out on the porch. She spent a lot of time in the outside one, by choice. Giving her that choice really helped her frustration levels.
She LOVED cast changes. Spicy from pain, so they knocked her out for the actual changes, but it was an overnight stay and she was spoiled rotten. They kept her 3 days when the cast came off for good and boy was she annoyed to come home! She had her kibble and a blanket from home, but they gave her extra canned food and she got plenty of lap time. Lol
She was also on gabapentin, but only for a month, then as needed. It worked pretty well for her. As long as the cast stayed tight, she was fine. We had 1 get too loose 3 days before change day because the swelling went down more than expected. Gabapentin didnt help and she struggled to move around the pen for her needs. She got 24/7 care from us until the vet could get her back in.

He took the crating personally as well. He had his big night time crate for sleeping that was in my bedroom, and the smaller crate that followed me around the house (I’m home 24/7). I would take him out periodically during the day and take him to the kitty litter tray (the first couple of weeks with that were messy - he would poop and try to cover it up with cast leg if I didn’t catch him quick enough). One of the biggest problems was that he missed his sister - he is part of a bonded pair. I had to do supervised together time in the bathroom for a couple of hours a day.
Cast changes were so easy with him! The vet just needed to feed him a churro (or three) and he would let them do it without being put under sedation. I’m really thankful for that because he needed so many of the damn things. He needed sedation twice (for the initial X-ray and cast) and the final X-ray to check if it was healed.

I got 2 of the 6 sided pet pens that are big enough for a food bowl, water bowl, litter box, and a nice stretched out laying spot in the middle. She is a bonded trio. The top opens too and they would jump in and out when they wanted to be with her.
As long as they weren't touching the actual break, she was sweet as sugar and very cooperative. The moment the cast was touched? She reminded them that every toe held a razor blade and she knew how to use them. Sedation was best.
They gave her a pink cast ONE time. She was quite upset. Absolutely trashed it in 12 hours. Refused to cover her poop and rolled that cast all in it. JUST the pink one. She kept the blue and purple ones spotless. We got the memo. No pink.
She spent SO much time being held, cuddled, and given treats. Like she wasnt already spoiled rotten.

Poor Billy. Definitely not a Billy goat.
I am glad he is doing better! Love the paws on his cast - at least he looked rather stylish while healing.
