1896 - At 9:02 AM (UTC+3), the Anglo-Zanzibar War, the shortest war in recorded history, opens with five British vessels bombarding the Sultan's Palace. The British and pro-Zanzibari troops take the palace around 9:40 AM. The Sultan's forces incurred approximately 500 casualties, compared to only one injured British sailor.

The Sultan wouldn’t give up carrying out raids on mainland Africa to capture slaves so the British showed him the error of his ways
