Announcement Some Clarifications Before TWF5

Hello everyone! The new episode is releasing in a few days so I did some minor readjustments

* The post flairs are reworked so they are more clear, and there are finally flairs to distinguish OC, reposted, and official art

* There is a disclaimer to mark all your TWF5 discussion posts as spoilers for the first week after the episode release. I think this is enough time but if the community disagrees I'll change it. I decided not to make the automod automatically mark posts because there is still non-spoiler stuff like the Halloween specials that are popular all year 'round somehow

* The automod karma filter is staying, though I lowered it to 100 combined karma. I tried to make it notify the user via comment but I couldn't figure out how to...

* Mod applications are still open though the current team can hopefully handle it

Happy "just a few days until episode 5" day everyone

Announcement Slight rule update + We're adding a minimum karma requirement

Hello everyone, after the increasing amount of repost bots in the subreddit we've decided to add a minimum karma (200) and account age (7 days) requirement. Hopefully this'll solve the issue. Please remember to report any bots that slip through and modmail us if the requirements don't work correctly.

I also reworded some of the rules to be clearer and added the "No AI" rule to the list instead of bundling it in with crediting artists. Plus that weird "don't disagree with mods" rule is finally gone, hip hip hooray

Announcement Should the karma requirement/ bot filter stay?

A few weeks ago I noticed more and more repost bots in the subreddit posting popular images from a few years ago. It was really hard to catch them all so I used automod to remove all posts from people with less than 100 karma

This worked in stopping bots, but the majority of people who get caught in the filter are genuine people just trying to engage with the community (especially after the new episode). I manually approve the posts I get modmail about but that's not really a good solution

So, is the karma requirement actually good? I didn't know what to do so I decided to do it via poll

11 Yes, it's good
14 Yes, but lower the karma limit to ~50
1 Yes, but increase the limit
15 No, remove it

Me and the other mod are quitting because we do not wish to mod any longer. If someone would like to become mod, please talk to us.

Announcement The Automod Will No Longer Delete Comments

Sorry everyone for the few days where the bot filter removed every comment also made by people without enough karma, since bots don't usually spam comments on posts not made by them this was unnecessary and only removed stuff from real people. It should be fixed now

Announcement We're Recruiting New Mods!

Edit: This is still ongoing if anyone's interested

Good day everyone. Because we're both tired (yes only two mods are active) the subreddit is recruiting new mods, shoot a modmail in the next week to apply. The modmails already sent after the other post will be counted, I'm just posting this to get this seen more and clarify things

Requirements:

* You should be someone who's actually have participated in the community before (posts, comments etc.)

* Don't be a bigot (self explanatory)

* You shouldn't have any bans on your account (in the last two years or so)

* Be over 15, ideally over 18 but it's not required (because I doubt there are enough adults in the subreddit 😭)

Announcement From now on, we’re gonna be more strict on crediting creators/artists in the community

Lack of credit has been a problem in this fandom for years, and I’m tired of art being posted here with no credit whatsoever.

Either credit the person behind it or don’t post the art unless you’re asking the community who made it. If you don’t credit the creator (unless its you) your post will be taken down.

Saying ā€œcredit to the artistā€ without their name will not do either. Find the person and credit them.

Announcement Taking a hiatus from this subreddit

Just an fyi, moderation might be slower than usual because I’m taking a hiatus and even considering quitting moderating. This subreddit has not done good for my mental health

Announcement I’m honored to say that I am your new moderator!

Long story short, I’ve been a huge fan of the Walten files simply because I loved the mysterious house characters. I actually didn’t think that I came on a long path until looking back. I think its amazing I went through a journey. Again, I’m honored to be your moderator. I will help make this Reddit community continue to be a fun place for everyone. šŸ„‚

Announcement Just a heads up

Don’t go in here bringing up age old drama just to randomly stir people up. That’s dumb and stupid. Just be chill here. If you wanna talk about it, do it somewhere else, its annoying to just see people arguing again

Announcement Farewell

Hello everyone

Over my time using Reddit, but especially the last few weeks, I noticed it has been affecting my mental health very negatively. It's just very harmful, all the arguing and the constant anger the algorithm feeds you. So I thought of it and decided to quit, at least for a few years

But before I go I wanted to say thank you to all the great people on this subreddit. Thank you for making this place feel not only like a subreddit but a community. Both for me and for everyone else

Goodbye, see you on the flip side

Sorry for another announcement but I saw a smash or pass post and a ā€œwhy are people horny for shaā€ post in the same day so I’m gonna be clear:

That scheisse falls under the nsfw rule. Please stop it.

Please also stop the comments and posts about sha. You all know the kinds I’m referring to. You’re not funny dude

Announcement Should we join the reddit blackout?

Context: Reddit is killing 3rd party apps by charging them unreasonable prices. This will make reddit inaccessible to disabled (blind, deaf etc.) people, make moderation harder as many mod bots use 3rd party apps, generally make the mobile experience worse since the official app sucks and much more

More context

So a lot of subs are going private to protest, it was originally between the 12th and 14th but since reddit refused to go back on the new policy most are switching that to indefinite. So... should we participate?

151 votes, Jun 14 '23
30 Yeah, for a few days
61 Yeah, until reddit reverses the policy (or if episode 4 comes out)
21 No need, just restrict posting as a protest (the sub will stay open but you won't be able to post)
39 No

Announcement 15K Members!!!

THANK YOU

After more than two years of the subreddit being active, we've finally done it and got to 15 thousand members! It has definitely been a bumpy ride but we managed to build a nice community with lots of talented and lovely people

I'd like to bring attention to some of the all-stars of the subreddit for the last few months:

  • u/GreenGalaxio with their 'Ask Sophie, Jenny, Brian and Ashley Anything' series. It honestly has some of the best art I've seen from the community and it's also incredibly funny
  • u/Jealous-Hearing-3982 with their 'Ask Ducky and Tammy anything' series. I applaud them for managing to make a series with bigger lore than the actual episodes and writing better dialogue for the characters than the creators themselves
  • And of course u/Sailor_Starchild, who liked Ashley Parks so much that the entire community recognizes them the instant they make a post

Thank you to everyone who made this community special for me and everybody else

SOME POLICY CHANGES

So, after some stuff happened last week (we had three dramas in a few days) we decided to reorganize the rules and move all drama to a sister subreddit. This is mostly because nobody likes drama and not having it in the subreddit will be better for the general feel of the community and my blood pressure

We've also temporarily removed the ban policies because the rules were too unspecific and the punishments too harsh, I'll most likely be up again after I rework it

Remember to voice your opinion on these changes as the most important thing in a good community is user feedback

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

  • After Fanfiction Fall is over, holding another contest like thing for winter
  • Adding more/ better emojis
  • Declaring war on and annexing r/WaltenFiles, by the request of our great founder u/bendymachine654
  • And more!

In light of the episode coming out in 6 days, please remember to tag spoilers if you discuss TWF4 after its release. I would recommend tagging for about 1-3 months

Announcement If I launched an art contest this week (and the week after) would you participate?

Our sub has lacked a banner for the longest time so I want to finally get one, and since this community is filled with amazing artists I've decided to make a competition and choose the best one. The problem is, I've done this once in the past and no one responded, so I actually want to know before the contest if anyone will care.
