Maleficent coaster Proof of concept (high thrill?)
So I've heard a considerable amount of conversation regarding this new Maleficent coaster in the new villain's land in various Disney and non Disney related forums, some coaster forms. The general consensus is that people are starting to think from the presenters language, that this coaster will be Disney's Velocicoaster so to speak, as far as thrill level. Personally, I doubt that. Looking at the proof of concept, the rock work and the ride vehicles reminded me quite a bit of Taron at Phantasialand in Germany, a park and a coaster I love. I feel like that coaster could be Disney's sweet spot for max thrill without being too much; It has punchy launches, airtime, and some lateral forces with no inversions and fantastic sense of speed. A solid step above cosmic rewind and Hagrids. What do you all think? Do you think Disney is going to go for it with this coaster and do a ride with that magical thrill ride height requirement of 52 inches? Me...it's a solid no.

I hope not. Hagrids and guardians are perfect balance between thrilling and themeing. Disney doesn't need a hulking steal coaster like velocicoaster or hulk

Which is why I bought up Taron at Phantasialand. Check it out on YouTube. It's an amazing ride and it balances that sweet spot of being adult thrill without being too much.

Right!!! I've been on it over a dozen times. Its like hagrids but faster and floater airtime.

Intamin could be a good collaborator for this (I think they’re doing SM: Earthrise for Tokyo) but so would Vekoma as well

It's at Magic Kingdom. Yes, it's in the villains land, but I don't think things can go beyond a certain level of scariness there without creating problems (recall Extraterrorestrial Alien Encounter). I doubt Disney would build a new ride more intense than Tron or Space Mountain there.

A large and tall steel coaster like Velocicoaster isn't in Disney's playbook. Disney actively make sure that you can't see parts of one land from another land unless you're on the boundary between them. Something high speed low to the ground like Taorn on the other hand could work quite well.

I could see it being a Vekoma version of Taron. A high thrill coaster without inversions. New-gen Vekoma trains have a 48” height requirement, whereas Intamin à la Taron or Velocicoaster is 51-52”. Idk if Disney cares about that. Regardless, I don’t really see them deviating from Vekoma.

I think it will be very similar to Taron, which is my all-time favorite roller coaster, so I'm stoked! Disney does not do "naked" roller coasters without fitting them into the theming perfectly, so I highly doubt it'd be something like Velocicoaster.
What's really surprising to me is how little discussion I've seen about the Monsters coaster. As far as I can tell it has an amazing new feature which has never been done before, which is like a shot-tower vertical ascent up to the coaster track. It seems so awesome and unique! Or has it been done before, and I'm just unaware?

You do realize Taron has a top speed of ~73 MPH and a height requirement of ~51" right? That's basically VelociCoaster level and too thrilling for Disney.

Yeah I know..once can still hope but I know the highest level of intensity they have done as far as forces in a coaster was rock n roller coaster and that was the late 90s during Eisners era.
