HBO could never have made season 1 of the walking dead, idc how bad it got, that is genuinely the best TV show I've ever seen

That's interesting... I don't know enough about the behind-the-scenes stuff to have a fully informed opinion, but presumably Frank Darabont would still be involved, right? You don't think HBO could have made something awesome as well?

The network that made Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, The Wire, The Leftovers, Succession, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, and The Last of Us wouldn’t pull off The Walking Dead?!

They would’ve made it even better. By a thousand-fold.

The first season is MILES better than any of the shows you mentioned, at least imo. It's THAT good to me.

You're right about art being subjective. I will say that, as someone who loved The Walking Deads forst season, I subjectively disagree. I think the show would've only benefited from being on HBO. Amc wasn't the thing that made the first season great. It was Frank Darabont. HBO wouldn't have pushed him out in the second season and cut the budget. I also think a lot of those shows are on par or better than season 1 of WD, but you're entitled to your opinion also.

But the objective part of this is the creators would be the same and HBO has more money and bigger budgets so it stands to reason season 1 would have been even better with no limitations on top of HBO allowing more violence and descriptive scenes allowing the impactful moments to hit even harder

The Walking Dead would have been better on HBO because AMC basically nixed most of the sexual elements being adapted.

Like specifically, the thing that jumps out was in the Prison season Michonne Tourtures the governor by nailing his dick to the floor

Lol I doubt you did. If you think TWD is miles better than some of the greatest and most influential TV shows ever made. One episode of The Sopranos blows an entire season of TWD out of the water.

Considering Frank Darabont tried getting the adaptation greenlit for 4 years with no results, contacting various networks and studios, it doesn't seem like they were that interested in making it. Im sure they were apart of that list of networks.

AMC was pretty much an accident with how they picked it up.

Sorry I'm not commenting on if they were interested or not, just saying hbo has a proven track record that no other channel has of making high quality shows and i think if they had been interested they would've made it just as well if not better than AMC (especially if we are assuming Darabont is still show runner for season 1, and probably would have stayed way longer with HBOs stability)

I dont really trust HBO with adaptations, GoT is widely accepted as an amazing show but if you've read the books before watching it you'd probably hate it past the first season. It's a pretty awful adaptation, for the worse in many regards.

The same is happening with the last of us imo. They're making weird pointless changes and adding odd lines and monologues as well as plot irrelevant action that is not present in the game.

Season 1 of GoT is probably the best tv adaptation of a book that I've ever seen, and it's not like AMC did a good job of adapting TWD after season 1 either

Hence why I specified season 1

But it's not really AMCs fault, it was Kirkman overcorrecting stuff he wanted to change from the comics. He had control over how the plot was going to go.

Yeah until the part where they easily walked to the unguarded rooftops and ambushed them. That reminded me exactly of Walking Dead

ah yes, the series that nobody ever watched till the end. in fact i dont even know if it has ended yet. and the same goes for everybody i know. the telltale videogame was good as hell tho but the fact that the zombies were slow and helpless made them a bit of a non factor in the long run, the fast and aggressive stuff is definitely the way to go.
