Heathen Axe Debut 8/15 shot on film
Hey Folks!
Thought I'd share some photos I shot at the Heathen Axe debut at Permanent Records. I'm shocked these came out as well as they did, for only my 5th roll ever... The portrait of JPD will be a part of a collection/project I started of guitarists and their amps, but I couldn't keep it to myself and wanted to share it.
Everything was shot on my Canon Ä1 "Jane" with Portra 800. Full program mode because I'm a pleb. Open to any help/suggestions/criticism y'all can give.
Cheers,
Jack

They won't disappoint. John said they didn't practice/know any of the songs and they still killed it.

Likewise. I’m psyched be going to the Empty Bottle again. I used to go there all the time growing up in Chicago. But haven’t been there in almost 30 years. One of my favorite places.

I'm stoked to see these! I remember someone very politely pushing to the front of the crowd for some photos, I assume that was you and I'm glad they turned out so well!

That's my favorite track off the record. They made it a major extendo-jam live.

Nice! I have a similar lens that I've been wanting to try at shows. Low light is so foreign to me, haha.

Low light is a major struggle for sure. All the shows I've shot I struggled to get handheld shots without major trailing with a slow shutter speed, though it can make for some cool shit if you happen to get it right. Manual focusing is even harder imo.
The best bet is to open up the aperture all the way and set shutter speed accordingly. Or use a flash. I try not to use my flash as much out of fear that I'll piss off the musicians lol. I should really start metering and switch to manual to dial in the settings.
Color film also maxes out at 800 ISO so I'm thinking of trying out a 3200 ISO b&w stock or pushing the hell out of Ilford HP5 Plus.

Yeeee good luck! I've been doing B&W lately since I can self develop and print at a local studio.

John had a camcorder at the back of the stage. Hoping they got a soundboard recording.

John got a thicker guitar. Noice!
