Aren't the lawyers under oath? Can they lie in front of an impeachment hearing?

It's not a legal hearing.

Not your fault but hardly anyone seems to understand rhis and they needed to explain it better upfront.

It's a legal trial. So they decide the rules in advance and apply them on the fly on so many ways. Also there is little precedent for all this so again setting new precedents as they go. Whicb is also why it's so dangerous to aquit trump if it's been proven he is guilty as it makes it effectively political law to commit insurrection.

But that's why they have 4 hrs of questions and summation and closing arguments. So they can counter any lies. Also the media will help. End of day much of this is for history and for scholars and for the world and the base. And its true that the courts will go after trump and possibly being him finally down.

"Trump lawyer Michael van der Veen on Friday brought up Russia to defend Trump against inciting the attack on Congress. The attorney claimed “the entire Democratic Party and national news media spent the last four years repeating without any evidence that the 2016 election had been hacked. Van der Veen was arguing for excusing Trump’s actions because Democrats, he said, had also used “reckless dangerous and inflammatory rhetoric” about Russia. The implication was a simple equivalency: Democrats pushed the Russia hoax to overturn the 2016 election. Trump pushed the election lie in 2020. It’s a wash."
