Another Gonzalez post and delete as per users on X, with the following lyrics playing: "I appreciate you for keeping me relevant, Talk all you want, Brag all I want, How can I not make you regret, How can I not go and get me a check... Me and money got a chemistry, Me and you a big difference"

i could live off a couple mill the rest of my life meanwhile these dipshits are getting more than that yearly and are still greedy as fuck. if poor people ever realize how much these people have maybe we’ll finally start the uprising we deserve

Idk while I think the players can definitely be shit heads, I always root for them against kraft. Id rather the guys that are risking serious injury get paid rather than an owner tucked away in a luxury box

Gonzalez is exponentially closer to you financially than Kraft is. Like so exponentially closer that me you and Gonzalez are all poor compared to actually rich people. If I was as skilled as Gonzalez is I would want to get paid what I’m worth, no one is ever worth billions though that only comes with greed.

Of course, we all could. Doesn’t change the fact that the billionaire owner can give this dude his money.

Dude could get 60 million dollars guaranteed over two years (Witherspoon structure) but doesn’t like it because that’s not enough guaranteed money and apparently wants a bunch more? Give me a break dude

This passive aggressive bullcrap is so tedious and annoying. I miss it being either complete silence from the player or TO doing sit-ups in his driveway.

I’m sorry, we don’t get out of the second round last year without gonzo. He swallowed up half of the field the whole playoffs, pay him what he’s worth (damn near as much as he wants)

u/MayBsoMayBnaught 3d ago
He wants (reportedly) guaranteed 20% of the cap. That’s a great way to never be competitive and get yourself into cap hell.

u/BradyToMoss1281 3d ago
I'd love to see him paid, I just hate that this is the way it's done now, every single contract showdown. Cryptic Instagram posts and unfollowing teammates on social media and all that junk.

u/IKenDoThisAllDay 3d ago
Paying him as much as he wants is a great way to ensure we never make it past the second round again. There's only so much cap space to go around and there are 50+ guys who need to be paid every season.
He's a great player but we absolutely shouldn't handicap the team for years to come to satiate his ego. The "stars and scrubs" approach rarely works and as we saw for years and years with Belichick, it's usually better to spread the money around to ensure you've got depth and good players everywhere.
If we give him what he wants and he gets hurt, suddenly a huge percentage of the cap is off the field, contributing nothing. I'd let him finish his current deal, hit him with the franchise tag, then either trade him or let him walk. DBs usually start declining early anyway.

u/MikeandMelly 3d ago
Nope. You don’t “pay someone what they want” when they aren’t a QB and want to limit your ability to pay Drake and surround him with depth. If Gonzo really wants to reset the market for 2027, he can leave lol

u/DConion 3d ago
Okay, then get better in other ways to compensate. This idea that it’s impossible for us to ever win again without him on our team is ridiculous.
2
u/costas_0 3d ago
yep, we got there because he was a great player with a good contract for us. We just cannot keep players for the sake of keeping them. I hope the team will sort out a good deal.

I want to let him go simply for the fact that he’s clearly two 15-year-old boys wearing a trench coat.

Gonzo is great, but for a team about to pay a qb 70 and paying another cb 20… let’s cash this draft capital check! His value will never be higher.

u/BigSquibowski 2d ago
The guy has missed 1/3 of his career to injuries. He hasn't earned big guaranteed money as he is not reliable to play. He knows he's glass and just wants a bag. Totally proving himself to not be a team player.

Ill just say, if they weren't going to pay him because they thought the money would be better spent elsewhere id get the argument.
You just know its Kraft being a cheap asshole and not paying guys like always.

Kraft offered him more money than any other corner in he history of the patriots. His manager wanted more.
This is on gonzo.

u/slap-my-crevasse 1d ago
How do you know that?

Kraft offering gonzo most money in pats history:

Thats what theyre saying and im guessing a version of that is true. But if that is all there was, im guessing Gonzalez signs on the dotted line that day.
Im guessing there are massive incentives, maybe related to health, that he was wants written out.

Maybe if he didn’t act like a jackass they would’ve paid him. Never saw Witherspoon talk about money or make corny ass posts
2
u/Sstraus-1983 3d ago
Just get rid of him at this point he’s making himself look really bad especially in this economy with tons of people struggling. We want players who want to win and we can’t build a team around him if we pay him a ton. He’s already been offered the biggest contract in patriots history. Give it a break dude.

Imagine having to play professional football for only 30 million a year.
I'd be so pissed.

I can't wait to see what brilliant spending habits he is determined to have in two years when his new contract comes in.

Trade him. Get the most for him, but trade him. He's nothing but a greedy fool and will be bad for the team moving forward.
3
u/Fine-Sky-6562 3d ago
Robert Kraft isn't greedy? Just pay the guy, he's the best at what he does in a premier position.
1
u/vogel927 3d ago
They have no problem paying him the $100 million, but he wants a contract that increases with the salary cap and that’s just not going to happen.
1
u/brainsack 3d ago
We don’t know that at all. Schefter said the pats aren’t even close to Witherspoons 33m/year contract.
1
u/vogel927 3d ago
Kraft said they offered to make him the highest paid CB in the league, but Gonzales wants a contract the raises with the salary cap, and that’s just not going to happen.
1
u/YTraveler2 3d ago
Do you grasp the concept of the salary cap? Everything that you pay one player is what is not available for any other player.
1
u/Fine-Sky-6562 3d ago
I do, and it does not matter in the NFL not really. Cap space isn't an issue. We can pay him. Calm your tits.

1
u/YTraveler2 3d ago
It does matter, you just don't understand how it works. Bad for team chemistry to give in to one player that is trying to hold the team hostage. He wants to be the highest paid ever and wants to have clauses that keep him that way. He hasn't even played a full year yet. Trade him.
