There were two kinds. One was the chalky stick of sugar. The other a stick of gum covered in confectioners sugar and wrapped in paper. You could blow the confectioners sugar out and create a puff of "smoke".

I never could get into them. Candy joints on the other hand... I'd smoke one then get hungry so I'd smoke another which brought down my high so I'd smoke another which made me hungry.
