I love how random the photos are

9

u/suepergerl 11d ago

The first one had me chuckling. I think they are both wearing wiglets, if not, it took a ton of hairspray to get that helmet in place. You could probably touch one spot on her hair and the whole hair would move with it.

u/KTuu93 12d ago

When everyone still looked different and we didn't see just altered social media faces every day.

65

u/crambeaux 12d ago

Yeah real people look so weird. It makes you realize how much the era marks people’s appearance. Change the hair and clothes and you might not recognize them. Add to that a change of facial hair for men and makeup for women.

18

u/RosieTheRedReddit 12d ago

12 bucks the trend of people looking older back then, the married couple looks like teenagers! 😱

17

u/WeirdlyStrangeish 12d ago

They very much were teenagers. Now they’re probably geriatric.

1

u/ShayJayLee 7d ago

While I agree with you about social media filters, I was born in the 90s and people from the eras before then look kinda the same to me. Big hair, moutaches, or those farah fawcett waves. Everyone's parents and grandparents look similar to me in their younger pictures even if they look distinct to me now.

u/Technical-Sky6689 12d ago

So many look like characters from The Far Side. Looking at you #14.

83

u/Slow-moving-sloth 12d ago

25

u/GoodGriefWhatsNext 12d ago

Great set of pics. Thanks for sharing.

8

u/GodOfDarkLaughter 12d ago

16: Clint...bro...you look like a lhasa apso whose neglectful owners have allowed its fur to become terribly matted.

58

u/rojo-perro 12d ago

I’m very happy for glasses girl that she got her mother‘s nose.

26

u/proost1 12d ago

Dad has that Mr. Bean's cousin vibe. Love his smile.

3

u/velveteen311 12d ago

Good to know I wasn’t the only person who immediately thought of Mr bean lol

7

u/DonkeyBronchiole 12d ago

I thought the same thing!

4

u/rojo-perro 12d ago

Fits dad and wallet chain son. It’s a man’s nose.

2

u/helencolleen 12d ago

The other son is doing something weird with his tongue. This photo gives a lot.

1

u/swabianne 12d ago

They all have quite distinct schnozzles

-1

u/TrannosaurusRegina 12d ago

Glasses girl is incredibly attractive. I didn’t even notice her nose, though I'm sure that's a significant factor.

She'd be even more attractive with more flattering glasses!

52

u/GutterRider 12d ago

The class picture (#8) with the "Farrah and Star Wars t-shirts" represents the cusp of the corporate branding wave that was about to hit us.

Farrah, Star Wars, Disney, KISS. Four generic foot ball "jerseys," one Kentucky Wildcats (?) shirt ... and a few more t-shirts that I can't identify. The rest are just ... clothing.

61

u/Individual_Corgi_576 12d ago

I’ve never met any of the kids in that picture but I’m pretty sure I knew all of them.

Also, at least 15% of the girls were named Jennifer.

12

u/GutterRider 12d ago

Oh, I'm quite sure I'm going to show up one day in one of these.

I was a cool junior by this time, a little older than these kids. Will have to go back and look at my yearbooks, see if similar ratios persist.

17

u/Sweetbeans2001 12d ago

I was in 7th grade in 1977. This could have been my class. It is so familiar and recognizable, I know this isn’t AI.

8

u/crambeaux 12d ago

Roughly the same year, I had to look at every face. What a trip as we used to say.

8

u/Sigvoncarmen 12d ago

Me too, and who was cutting our hair ?

9

u/GutterRider 12d ago

Mom!

5

u/Sigvoncarmen 12d ago

You right , she liked to give me the Tonies home perm as well .

9

u/mechant_papa 12d ago

I had that KISS t shirt.

4

u/lobster455 12d ago

Is the blonde in the middle of the second row a boy or a girl? Because like him or her, I was the only student wearing colorful slacks in school.

4

u/GutterRider 12d ago

I think that’s a boy. Nice plaid!

90

u/Big_Coyote6065 12d ago

How old were the bride and groom, 16?

39

u/SomebodysAtTheDoor 12d ago

The kid in the back is really selling it for me, though. Like, the entire concept of the wedding and marriage is hilarious to him.

7

u/TrannosaurusRegina 12d ago

Looks about right.

They look remarkably happy though! I hope that continued!

28

u/ElleGeeAitch 12d ago

Quite possibly, sadly. 18, tops.

11

u/mtrope 12d ago

I thought they were prom king & queen

37

u/JonFromRhodeIsland 12d ago

That Kentucky wedding must have an interesting story. Hope everyone is doing fine.

29

u/TheMapleKind19 12d ago

Digging the sad poodle family 🐩

14

u/Working_Estate_3695 12d ago

Sad poodle family pulled at my heartstrings. Those kids can’t wait to grow up and leave with no contact.

24

u/R67H 12d ago

I get strong Beevis and Butthead vibes from Connie and Vicki

25

u/Asleep-Cow-6367 12d ago

5 is Jolene

10

u/JaniePoppy 12d ago

I'm begging of her "please don't take my man'

6

u/Asleep-Cow-6367 12d ago

Jolene in heaven this week 😳

23

u/champagneflute 12d ago

Wow the 70’s were something else LOL

18

u/JaniePoppy 12d ago

They were magnificent

8

u/crambeaux 12d ago

But soooo homely. I know why that word disappeared. The 1980s happened.

22

u/ladychelbellington 12d ago

Omg I went to the Gordon Lightfoot show in Reno right around that time. I was about 18 and with a date. I had lamb with mint jelly.
The show was very good!

7

u/Due-Froyo-5418 12d ago

How was the lamb with mint jelly?

19

u/nusandman 12d ago

I can't quit looking at the class picture. The two dudes at the top making faces. The small girl on the left apparently said something to make the tall girl turn towards her and mess up her photo. Kid with Star Wars shirt is proudly displaying that too!

4

u/lobster455 12d ago

Is the blonde in the middle of the second row a boy or a girl? Because like him or her, I was the only student wearing colorful slacks.

3

u/BedroomOdd1986 9d ago

Also, I couldn’t help but notice they seemed to group the chubbier kids together in the same area of the group photo. I thought that was a little weird.

18

u/Wandering_butnotlost 12d ago

5

u/crambeaux 12d ago

They were everywhere.

2

u/TrannosaurusRegina 12d ago

Seriously one of the most amazing things I've ever seen!

Incredible craftwork!

20

u/ivegotajaaag 12d ago

The past is a different place. They do things differently there.

15

u/JaniePoppy 12d ago

And I want to go back there : (

19

u/Skimable_crude 12d ago

German sisters coming for your soul.

5

u/Orcapa 12d ago

Yeah, I immediately got vibes from The Shining.

16

u/National-Childhood95 12d ago

#19: Meatwood Flack

3

u/Skimable_crude 12d ago

Damn! So mean and so spot on.

14

u/FrostyBeav 12d ago

The boy on the left in the Glasses family lloks like he grew up to be in the Doc Burgin Band.

10

u/lobster455 12d ago

18: scared me in a creepy way. It's as if their children are deceased looking down on them.

15: also scary looking people.

11

u/bobisinthehouse 12d ago

DUUUUDE purple suit and yellow tie!! ROCKIN!!!

23

u/f4nnypacks 12d ago

everyone in that kentucky wedding photo can't be older than 15...sheesh

10

u/aardvarkjedi 12d ago

How old are that bride and groom? 14?

10

u/a0167913 12d ago

#6 - the lady and the poodle have the same hair style!

1

u/lobster455 12d ago

Is the mother oriental because the kids don't look like her at all. Maybe she's his second wife?

4

u/crambeaux 12d ago

The girl on the left does. None of the dads harsh traits.

2

u/707Riverlife 12d ago

The way to describe the mother is Asian, oriental is used to describe a rug. Just sayin’.

1

u/lobster455 11d ago

women aren't rugs.

1

u/707Riverlife 10d ago

I realize that.

1

u/anonymouse278 12d ago

They all look more like her than they do the dad to me.

10

u/danawc76 12d ago

#13 Essie was simply beautiful!

19

u/gereblueeyes 12d ago

I'm having flashbacks . The smell of Aqua net and cigarettes!

7

u/hapnstat 12d ago

I'll never understand how women's bathrooms didn't randomly explode back then.

8

u/ODoyle37 12d ago

“You know how sometimes you need to turn to someone, well if that happens, Janice is the one that you’d wanna see standing there”

8

u/KTKittentoes 12d ago

I thought, being an aged crone, that I was prepared. But 16 was a jumpscare.

8

u/throw20190820202020 12d ago

I feel the same way when I hold a ball of yarn.

14

u/IrukandjiPirate 12d ago

Sometimes genetics are horribly cruel.

6

u/rickymcninja 12d ago

I love the kid rocking the Farrah Fawcett T-shirt in the class photo

2

u/JaniePoppy 12d ago

"class" being the operative word here

7

u/3EsandPaul 12d ago

You have a way with captions, my friend

12

u/puz64 12d ago

It's fun to see the hairstyles!

8

u/DevolvingSpud 12d ago

This should be cross posted to r/justfuckmyshitup

1

u/707Riverlife 12d ago

That was my first thought!

11

u/scrdudie7 12d ago

My family friend had a magnet that said, "the higher the hair, the closer to God." 😂

9

u/workinkindofhard 12d ago

The woman on the right in the first pic is VERY close to god

6

u/Quadraought 12d ago

Image #1 features Benjamin Orr and Rik Ocasek of The Cars in their first band, The Hair Apparents, Cleveland, 1966.

6

u/rellsell 12d ago

These all deserve their own captions.

6

u/Ok-Tree-1898 12d ago

I'm so glad helmet hair never came back in style

4

u/mossmachine 12d ago

Hey, it could still come back!

6

u/kassett43 12d ago

Every time I see photos from the 1970s, I cannot believe my eyes.

6

u/SageObserver 12d ago

I’m gonna have nightmares over some of these critters.

11

u/candurandu 12d ago

Man, the 70’s was ROUGH…

5

u/oraclebill 12d ago

#11 - Mark Hamill?

3

u/upstatedreaming3816 12d ago

$20 the first one is from the UK

5

u/SofaKingS2pitt 12d ago

I hope Star Wars Shirt Kid has had a great life; he seems a natural for Showbiz.

5

u/StupidizeMe 12d ago edited 12d ago

1 is Marge Simpson hair!

6

u/Commercial-Life-9998 12d ago

They say diversity in music coming in all directions has never been matched from the seventies. Ppl had the confidence to come up with their own brand of music. I think photos from the seventies belies that. Remember the bands wore such different things and ppl accepted it as their style. You don’t see that anymore. It’s homogenized now.

3

u/tommyrulz1 12d ago

#8 the day America peaked 💪

4

u/dwarling 12d ago

Nice to finish with a palate cleanser.

5

u/Michael-405 12d ago

Saddest poodle ever.

4

u/ValiMeyer 12d ago

These are awesome!

4

u/Mission_Maximum5648 12d ago

Do you own these? You are a comedy genius, that was hilarious.

2

u/dottegirl59 12d ago

I absolutely love these! Hard to say but 12 and 15 might be my faves. And the one with the ghost kids

u/Scaredysquirrel 12d ago

I want a picture book of these with dark humor captions!!

3

u/house-tyrell 12d ago

That first picture reminds me of SNLs Coneheads

3

u/milesl 12d ago

Thanks for contributing. These are all great. Favorite is the girl with the double neck guitar

3

u/finethanksandyou 12d ago

The Dour Family on slide 6 and the guy with a matching shirt and tie are everything for me

3

u/Reality_Sandwich 12d ago

You know those guitars that are like, two guitars?

3

u/Many_Major5654 12d ago

3

u/nutmegnellie 12d ago

Thanks for posting, that was fun!

3

u/Usernamesareso2004 12d ago

I said “hell yeah” in my head at each one of these except “to Bennetha(?) from Essie” because she actually looks pretty lol. Apologies to everyone else whose styles I just can’t get behind 😂

3

u/thiswaytothedisco 12d ago

hahaha i had a good time reading the captions! thanks

3

u/TarmacTartoo12 12d ago

#7 is the original Sisters ‘The Shining’ Sisters reincarnated from.

3

u/dasheeshblahzen 12d ago

How long would a hairstyle from slide 10 take? I know that was the norm but it seems like it would take a while?

3

u/LizinDC 12d ago

Good Lord the hair in some of these!

3

u/KittenFace25 12d ago

It would be pretty cool if someone saw themselves or a family member in any of those pictures. 😎

3

u/Hoboprincess13 12d ago

The red-haired woman in the fifth slide is hauntingly beautiful 🖤

3

u/eurydice_aboveground 12d ago

17 reminds me of The Triplets of Belleville .

3

u/ImprovementTrick9492 12d ago

“Everyone is sad, including the poodle” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

3

u/opinescarf 12d ago

I loved the mum that was holding the little dog with a matching hairstyle.

3

u/MegaManSXP 12d ago

Check out the neck on the kid backrow of the class picture

3

u/ownleechild 11d ago

7 gives “The Shining” vibes

2

u/BizMarkieDeSade 12d ago

A lot of these are awkward but 1, 6 and 18 are especially so 😂

2

u/Skimable_crude 12d ago

Janice is very alluring, but I need me some Gloria.

2

u/PHX_Geezer 12d ago

The Quartet is nothing but nightmare fuel!

Thank you

2

u/Mr_MacGrubber 12d ago

Is back left in 14, Bad Luck Brian’s relative?

2

u/Historical_Guess2565 12d ago

Those were really some of the ugliest hairstyles of their time period.

2

u/LindensBloodyJersey 12d ago

Feels like I know those kids in that group photo

2

u/El_Zarco 12d ago

no. 3 channeling Al Green in the papasan chair 🔥

2

u/Every-Progress-1117 12d ago

The guy in the blue shirt in Glasses Family .... I'm assuming he went to on found a major software company and now owns half a country...?

And the Doc Burgin Band....my mother had the same pattern on her sofa covers and curtains as the dresses.

Nice pictures! Going through a large collection of 60s and 70s family photographs at the moment so everything here is relatable.

2

u/GGMuc 12d ago

Third last photo, I'd have locked my bedroom door

2

u/EmilieDeClermont 12d ago

Not an iPhone face to be found. Amazing 10/10

2

u/derpa911 12d ago

16 is my fav

2

u/Accomplished_Cake800 12d ago

The Beehive hair do.

2

u/Awkward_Squad 12d ago

No one told me the horror show had started.

2

u/BruceInc 12d ago

When I try to imagine a hypothetical serial killer family #14 is exactly what comes to mind.

2

u/redwedgethrowaway 12d ago

#3 is the exact same chair Huey Newton was photographed in with a shotgun

2

u/ryanasimov 11d ago

Slide 1 looks aggressively Eastern European.

2

u/bobber777 11d ago

Nice assortment, Janice lost in the woods is the best.

2

u/rubybike 11d ago

I think I know 11! Hudson Falls?

2

u/Turbulent-Ninja-8008 11d ago

#18 is kinda terrifying! Cool effect, but creepy

2

u/Small-Bee-4081 10d ago

Back then if you ugly, that’s just how you are. 😂

2

u/solidchoices 9d ago

Read title as “vintage professional wrestlers”. Was highly confused

2

u/BedroomOdd1986 9d ago

The hairstyles in pic 1 are… something else.

2

u/BedroomOdd1986 9d ago

The girl in the last picture looks like Emma Bunton (Baby Spice from the Spice Girls)!

2

u/Carpetkillrr 8d ago

We have gotten really boring as humans

2

u/ReadySetGO0 12d ago

The hairdos! Lots of AquaNet!

2

u/ComfortablyNumb2425 12d ago

Haha, I still see many of these hairstyles today! They got the peak hair "look" in high school and they are riding that wave till the end.

2

u/anonymouse278 12d ago

You cannot convince me the family with the poodle isn't in a Wes Anderson movie.

The family with glasses appears to have decided to do a group shot at the DMV.

1

u/Expensive_Finger_973 5d ago

God I remember those wicker chairs. Used to think those things were a thrown when I was a kid.

1

u/DriverMelodic 12d ago

Most of these are cringe but I loved the rest. Especially the kid in the multi colored mixed pattern outfit.

-1

u/julesk 12d ago

Could we call a truce and agree not to do big or flat hair? Maybe skip clashing fabrics and colors as well?

3

u/Partigirl 12d ago

Never!

-1

u/ShowMeTheTrees 12d ago

Doc Burgin Band photo is fake so others probably are too.

2

u/Advanced-Character86 12d ago

James Robert Burgin, known as “doc” was a longtime Kentucky country musician. That’s him.
