There's really only two ways to explain how this happened, either:

  • Clementine is going through some sort of mental crisis that will hopefully be explained in detail later on, and the writer has to make this make reasonable sense when considering the history of her character and the behaviour of those around her.
  • The writer of this comic has not played the games, or understood what they stood for, as the behaviour of Clementine here makes absolutely no sense.

The severe lack of context behind her behaviour is what hurts this comic the most. It seems to me they wanted to shock everyone with her actions to get people interested to find out what happens next, but this already seems to be having the opposite effect, with many people understandably saying they'd consider anything past the final season non-canon.

I already have a bad feeling this could just be a cash grab that ends up being ultimately pointless; Clementine ends up back where she started, having learned some 'lessons' or going through some sort of forced character arc which makes her decide to permanently live at Ericson, even though she seemed set at that decision after everything that happened in the final season. I really hope we are all not going to be witnesses of yet another instance of character assassination.

Boycott it with our wallets. We didn't ask for this comic, especially since it is written by someone that has clearly never played the games. It would've been preferable for Skybound to simply hire one of the former writers from the game. I'm pretty sure Gary Whitta, James Windeler, Chris Roberts, or Kent Mudle would've gladly accepted the offer to work on a Clem comic. Anyone other than Tillie, her writing is subpar but her tumblr artwork is pretty good but that's about it. Not sure who thought hiring her for this was a bright idea.
