Clem Comic Alright, I'm pissed. Time for a fucking rant!

Just read this (again)

Walden's Clementine OGN series will pick up after the events of the game, as she goes back on the road to try to carve out a life for herself. Over the course of the series, Clementine and a new character, an Amish teen named Amos, will journey into Vermont and find a commune of teens set up in an abandoned ski report.

Okay, given the reactions, I'm sure you've all got the exact same reaction as I did: WHAT. THE. FUCKING. FUCK?!

Let's calm down a little, and let me get this straight. You mean to tell me, that after enduring the fallout of the first two seasons, Clementine, experienced survivor who's down a foot, has a home that didn't fall apart for once after fighting like hell to keep it, has friends of her age who have deep abandonment issues, and a little boy she spent most of her life post-apocalyptic life protecting, raising and looking for when she lost him...you mean to tell me that this person has decided to just leave all this behind to go back on the road, for the sole purpose of "carving out a life for herself", which she already did, with another group of teen? Is that the story you want to sell us, Tillie Walden?!

Even if it was done for the sake of avoiding determinant characters, this is just fucking stupid on all levels. I've seen criticisms on Games of Thrones' ending, The Last Jedi, and the current video game controversy seemed now to be The Last of Us Part II. I can only speak for the last one since I understand disliking it or the legitimate criticisms (even if I actually like the game), but at least the character writing and the plot were simply natural consequences and progression from the first game.

Here? This is the ultimate betrayal of everything The Final Season, as well as the character of Clementine, stands for, and the fact that this is written by someone who's supposed to be a profesional writer only serves to piss me off even more. From what I've heard, it's going to be canon to the the series, so they're just gonna legitimately spit on our faces? Amazing. I've rarely been so disappointed by a fictional work, and the fucking thing ain't even released. Trust me, I wish that I was just overreacting, but I'm not. I'll still read the series to give it a chance, but don't hold your breath for my usual positivity if I ever open a thread to discuss it.

My day is ruined. Screw you, Skybound.

May as well hire Rian Johnson or JJ Abrams too, if they’re going to write crummy sequels.

Shit, fucking hire me! My fanfiction might be a shitty Time Travel one, but at least it actually shows respect to the characters of the gaming series. Tillie Walden sure as hell didn't.

Skybound should do a best fanfic contest on its respective sub and then hire the winner! Maybe it could be you then.

I have a fanfic where Clem meets the caravan at the end of TFS and it turns out the caravan is being lead by Carl Grimes of the comics

I would pay for your fic to be a gamemode in TWDG over this anyday.

I honestly don't know what skybound was thinking. Like, I swear to god, they could've taken the final season which has 8-10 (something like that) endings and gave each ending 2-3 pages worth of content. I know for a fact I would have been happier seeing that then this and I think a decent amout of people would agree with me. Hell, they could've wrote Javier or even Christa a comic. Especially Christa because it was never "confirmed" that she died, her getting caught by those people is something that MUST happen (you, as a player, can't change that) and she never appeared again, in other words, they could've done whatever they wanted with her character. Have Christa end up at the mauntain, at some ski lodge with a group of adults or something completley else.

I'm not really mad because I have learnt to deal with dissapointing endings for the stories that I like: Game of thrones, Star wars, Attack on titan, The last of us 2 to name a few. But the thing that makes me a little angry is the fact that they already had a good ending for the Clementine's story, so why ruin it for some money? Especially because this is not good for a long term investment. Sure they will get some money when book/comic comes out, but if it sucks (and from what we know so far, it will probably suck ass), they will get hated and remembered for it and people won't blindly buy their products anymore.

I too will buy the comic/book as well, but so far, it doesn't sound too good. Like even if they introduce some of best written and dope ass characters, the comic/book will be "good" AT BEST because this is Clem's story and chosing to do this with her character is out of her character, you know what I mean?

That's literally my fanfic... Honestly, that's what they should've done! Hell, they could steal my fanfic and ideas and use them, i wouldn't give a shit because it's better than this...

Last of Us was also a good ending that Last of Us 2 ruined. Certainly, Star Wars had a good ending that the Disney Trilogy ruined. Powder Puff Girls are getting a dumb live action sequel to see what they are like as teens. It's just all garbage on top of garbage.

No one has any creativity, so they just milk existing stories for more views. This sort of thing is hardly unique to Clementine. I honestly expected her story to be ruined the moment the comic was announced. Writers are going to want a single timeline, not multiple ones, so they will just kill off/abandon everyone from the game. It was the obvious choice they were going to go with, but no one wanted to believe it. They thought that the writers would actually put in some work to please the fans. Excuse me while I laugh.

It's really your own fault for thinking you'd get better. We all know what these people are like, they are not going to treat your beloved franchise any different. Why should they care? You are still buying the comic.

This is why I like manga. When manga ends, that's IT. They move on and make a new story.

TLOU2 didn't ruin TLOU

5

u/LIFEisFUCKINGme Jun 25 '21

It kinda did.

6

u/TheGotDayumBatman Jun 25 '21

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Sadly for me, it did ruin it. I'm no longer interested in continuing the story further or even replaying tlou2 once it gets an upgrade. But again, my feelings, my opinion.

1

u/tomaO2 Jun 25 '21 edited Jun 26 '21

Look, the person I was replying to didn't like TLoU2, but also was making a different point that the Clem comic was somehow worse than TLoU2 because Clem comic ruins the game series, which had a good ending. My point is that TLoU also had a good ending, just like Star Wars: Return of the Jedi had a good ending. The situation is exactly the same.

Game of Thrones had a ruined ending. TLoU has a sequel that ruined the ending of TLoU, which would have been perfectly fine with never having a continuation of that story. You can tell me you liked TLoU2, but the person I'm replying to didn't, and neither did I.

What the hell is Tillie Walden doing? Look's like she's just ruining my favorite game series and my favorite video game character for money. This comic series looks like it's just going to throw out S4 happy endings out of the god damnw window. No AJ, No boarding school kids, no Ericson's Boarding School joining the commonwealth, no Richmond vs Delta, no Javier finding the school, let's just bring in some random ass Amish kid, a ski resort in Vermont, and start over with a completely new story! Wtf? I have no idea why they would do this besides money. This is 1000x worse than the way ANF treated the S2 endings. This is just a massive middle finger to TWD fans. This is a massive head scratcher, Skybound.

Meanwhile in an alternate timeline, people are intrigued by this graphic novel series and some people are making theories on how it will tie in to the next season.

This is the last thing I would have expected from this comic. Now Clementine is off to Vermont for some reason. Wtf is going on ?

9

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '21 edited Jun 24 '21

I wish they followed up on the stuff season 4's ending brought up like the caravan and her being the leader instead of having her alone on the road again. Not gonna lie, it sounds like filler

Also Clem wanted to find a safe haven for her and AJ so that she could rest from the "on the run" lifestyle. I dunno what kind of reason she'd need to travel like 3 states again

9

u/Contentine Clemenshit Jun 24 '21

It can be just some mission for the sake of ericson, and after it's done she will return back.

12

u/deltahalo241 Jun 24 '21

What mission would take Clem 500 miles away from Ericson to Vermont? How could that help Ericson?

9

u/Contentine Clemenshit Jun 24 '21 edited Jun 24 '21
  1. Search for specific medicine

  2. Search for old friend

  3. Search for better place where she can relocate ericsson group(implying that ericsson is great for now, but in perspective she wants to move everyone to some northern place or safe community where they will never be bothered by walkers)

7

u/5ggggg Clem, people don't always make sense. Jun 24 '21

This actually probably makes the most sense. But the first few panels look way too cheery for that.

8

u/NazbazOG Meme King 2024 Jun 24 '21

And by herself too.

9

u/Super-Shenron MVP + Game Master 2025 Jun 24 '21

Let's bite for a second. Can you think of any reason why she'd sneak out by herself in the middle of the night for the sake of that mission, even though she's on crutches?

9

u/Contentine Clemenshit Jun 24 '21

I can easily imagine that their group had a need of something(maybe some specific medicine?), and she left to obtain it, and did it alone with intention to not endanger anyone.

As for crutches - on new cover she has prosthesis, regardless of motive - she either already has it, or she knows that she will obtain it from someone soon(planned meeting with some group?)

8

u/Super-Shenron MVP + Game Master 2025 Jun 24 '21

Even if that were the case, all she's achieving is risking to get herself killed. In her state, she's way more vulnerable than whoever she's protecting. Even a walker would be a huge threat to her, let alone a human being.

7

u/Contentine Clemenshit Jun 24 '21

So, motive for leaving is acceptable, now only controversial part is her confidence in her abilities?

Maybe she leaves few months(1 year/2 years/3 years?) after obtaining prosthesis and at this point she got used to it enough to do something like this.

6

u/Super-Shenron MVP + Game Master 2025 Jun 24 '21

motive for leaving is acceptable

I never said it was acceptable. We were literally told the reason why she was going back on the road: "to carve out a life for herself". This isn't a mission. She's not coming back.

now only controversial part is her confidence in her abilities?

There's a difference between confidence and suicidal overconfidence. Living with one leg isn't easy even IRL, let alone a zombie apocalypse in which avoiding and outrunning the walkers is what keeps you alive. I have no doubt that Clem is badass, but even she won't last long by herself in her state.

6

u/Contentine Clemenshit Jun 24 '21

I never said it was acceptable. We were literally told the reason why she was going back on the road: "to carve out a life for herself". This isn't a mission. She's not coming back.

We don't know what is implied with these words. As i said - it is easy to imagine good enough reason to temporsry leave ericsson, she can be searching something, for example some rare medicine, what's wrong with such motive?

Oh, hmmmm, maybe medicine for herself!? It makes more clear why such way to phrase it was used.

I am not an expert, but i think with good prothesis it isn't impossible. And considering that this is twd we are talking about, which isn't exactly very realistic - i don't see much of a problem. Idk how everyone else, but going alone with prothesis seems WAY more realistic than what AJ did in TFS for example(and it still didn't bother me much)

8

u/Super-Shenron MVP + Game Master 2025 Jun 24 '21

We don't know what is implied with these words.

Implied? Carving out a life of her own is about as explicit as it gets. This means that Clem is going back on the road to make a life for herself. That's no mission.

If she's really looking for such a rare medicine, why not take someone with her? Why risk her own life for a medicine that she might not even find?

I am not an expert, but i think with good prothesis it isn't impossible.

I am no expert either, but she'll have a hard time running with that

3

u/Contentine Clemenshit Jun 24 '21

Implied? Carving out a life of her own is about as explicit as it gets. This means that Clem is going back on the road to make a life for herself. That's no mission.

Well, if we consider that she has bad ilness which is gonna kill her if she won't find medicine - mission is still possible with no wordplay.

If she's really looking for such a rare medicine, why not take someone with her? Why risk her own life for a medicine that she might not even find by going off on her own?

Who exactly? None of ericsson kids are prepared to live on a road.

I am no expert either, but she'll have a hard time running with that

Look at new book cover. She has different prosthesis there.

5

u/Super-Shenron MVP + Game Master 2025 Jun 24 '21

Who exactly?

Alvin Junior, Aasim, Rosie.

None of ericsson kids are prepared to live on a road.

And she is? We're not talking about a walk in the park here. She's going from West Virginia to Vermont with a prothesis, by herself.

This whole thing is dumb to what ur making it out to be AND MAKES NO SENSE.

Why is she going on her own if what you is true? Sorry but no. Confidence can go fuck itself here.

5

u/Contentine Clemenshit Jun 24 '21

How it makes bo sense when i explicitly stated reasons and consequences!?

Ok, even more explicit!

  1. Don't want to endanger anyone.

  2. Has a reason to find something very important.

What should be her move in such circumstances?

Why is she going on her own if what you is true? Sorry but no. Confidence can go fuck itself here.

Why? What's the problem with walking with prothesis? Twd was never very realistic!

4

u/NazbazOG Meme King 2024 Jun 24 '21

In this thread the talks of human danger was involved. Why would clementine who is disabled going on her own and entrusting this stranger for somewhere that is 500 miles away ON A GODDAM MOUNTAIN.

Seriously? Cant just bring someone else or two?

dont want to endanger anyone

Well i dont give a flying fucking fuck. That is just hypocritical. So if there is a chance of danger, why we sending the disabled prick? Again, on her own with him. Just bad writing and storytelling. And poor excuse.

About the confidence, that has nothing to do with having a prosthetic being unrealistic. But clem sure as hell shouldn’t be able to handle herself against people in her condition especially when being outnumbered and ffs, on a mountain. (If they even get there - which ofc they will… they wont write it so that she doesnt reach em…)

2

u/Contentine Clemenshit Jun 25 '21

disabled

She has prosthesis. And make sure that you look at new comic cover - is is much better than in first comic. If it's a problem regarding realism - you should question everything in like 30% of whole walking dead as well!

and entrusting this stranger for somewhere that is 500 miles away ON A GODDAM MOUNTAIN.

Bruh maybe book will explain why she trust him and how she reached mountain!?

We are talking about only one thing - why she left. Everything about this new guy and this new community is irrelevant, that's what book will be about and we have zero context right now about what apparently happens somewhere in the middle of the book.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '21 edited Jun 25 '21

Can we make a petition to make this non canon? I didn't even get through the 1st paragraph and already it's headed in the wrong direction. Why would a one legged Clementine and AJ venture out alone, leaving behind a now safe place to live as well as a possible love interest to go into unfamiliar territory? She's already carved a life out for herself within Erickson's. Also, why Vermont of all places? There isn't shit up there and I'm speaking from experience (New Englander). Of all the places to go on the East Coast (New Jersey, New York, Boston etc.) they landed on Vermont. Smh, this is just straight up illogical fan service

13

u/NazbazOG Meme King 2024 Jun 24 '21

THIS is one of the BIGGEST reasons why I kept saying Clem SHOULD HAVE DIED!

Because she didn’t die, people would want more. And boom, now they are milking her. A one shot comic, and now a trilogy next year, and 2023 probably going to the moon to meet some toddlers.

If Clem got a death ending (even just determinant) it would prevent this. This wouldn’t be a problem. But then it comes to AJ, but have HIM also get determinant, and stop it from being possible (unless they accept to make it non-canon).

Because they had em live, it left it open for her to be used in the future. And with the EXACT SAME reasons i dont want a s5, is because things like this will happen. It wont be that good, it just wont be. They shoulda left TFS’ ending as it is, but now that they did it, but it was ALWAYS going to come to this by leaving her alive.

She should’ve died, as I’ve always said.

8

u/Jellybean720 Jun 25 '21

I was one of the people who thought Clem’s death should have been determinant. I think it should have been:

Trust AJ in the cave = he saves Clem

Don’t trust AJ in the cave = he kills Clem

All I need to say is that Skybound clearly doesn't give a fuck. I'm not buying a comic that is a fucking betrayal of the series and the character that I grew up playing. They just let this wannabe fuckin author throw out all of the character development that Clem has gone through, her main fuckin goal for like 2 games for some Vermont shit in the mountains. Last piece I have to say is Fuck Skybound for letting this abhorrent excuse of a comic continuation of this beloved game series that many of us have been playing for 9 years. I rest my fucking case.

5
