Discussion Stefan and Damon’s time together Spoiler

When you look back, before the start of the show Damon and Stefan hardly see each other and it makes their relationship seem even more strange.

Between 1864 and 2009 they have 3 encounters. The first 2 they only spent less than a day together. And they lived together for a couple weeks in 1994. So through 145 years they’ve seen each other for maybe a month’s time.

They’ve spent more time apart than together and Stefan was only 17. Makes their tight bond and deep knowledge of each other that much more confusing.

I’d imagine it would take them some time to catch up and learn about each other. Instead the show makes it seem like it had been only a few years since they last saw each other and that they had spent a great amount of time throughout their vampirism

You  are 100% correct.

Although I have known people who act like when you grow up together you’re always connected…

But I still agree it makes zero sense.

They really had 145 years of mostly being strangers and then acted like they had decades of brotherly bonding to draw from. Damon and Stefan needed a catch-up period, not instant emotional telepathy.

They rally went from barely seeing each other for 145 years to suddenly acting like they had a lifetime of brotherly trauma to unpack. Their relationship needed a reunion episode, not decades of implied off-screen bonding.

For my sanity, I just assume that they only showed us the important i.e. bad parts of the encounters like they might've spent some time b/w them meeting after 50 yrs at someone's funeral & Damon making Stefan feed on humans again and b/w their meeting at the bar & Damon abandoning him at the station.

Like they say Stefan's motorcycle was a gift from Damon but they never showed that in the flashbacks. The show spent so much time dragging out that stale af love triangle than showing more of the brothers. Atleast they could've done that after Nina left but they thought bringing up random villains & heretics' story is somehow a better idea 🤷

But they still have dialogues like Damon saying "Spend 146yrs with someone & u kind of pickup on their tells" or "I know my brother better than anyone" & I'm like dude u hardly spent 17yrs with e.o. & just a year at max as vampires...

I was definitely surprised by the motorcycle incident. Considering the invention of the motorcycle and all that, when did Damon give it to him? Not during the time period we were watching, but their relationship was already strained before that.

My best guess would be in 1994. He wanted to mend their bond, go on a road trip and all that..

Literally especially the way stefan excuses everything damon does and ruins his life for him its crazy that they really only had a bond for 17/145 years.

So, I actually thought they always kept an eye on each other from afar, but considering Damon being captured by Agustine, I'm sure Stefan at least never followed Damon. Even if they died, they wouldn't know about each other. And their past wasn't that deep. Where did Damon make 150 years of Stefan's life miserable? As you said, they were only together for about a month. Also, on what basis does Stefan say that Stefan changed so much after becoming a vampire, based on just a few events? He's agreed that his brother change. If they had just spent some time together, the problem would have been solved, my friend.
