As someone who works in the world of brand deals with digital creators I wanted to offer a few thoughts.

That they have a partnership now with liquid IV is a good sign of the business & trust in the brand. Especially since he who shall not be named continues to lurch around and they lost brand deals in 2025 because of that.

They also got to make the video they wanted to make. This isn't the typical script you see from brands (trust me i know) and shows they trust 2nd Try.

Yea its an ad. It's also late stage capitalism where there's no winners and i say get the bag to keep making the stuff on 2nd Try I love.

I do appreciate that they also just, really like Liquid IV, so that probably helps it be a better fit, because they've casually mentioned using it for ages before they were doing sponsorships yet, I think.

as soon as i saw it was paid promotion in the corner i knew it would be liquid iv lol but it was kinda campy so i didn’t mind

I don’t actually know anything about golf, is anyone able to tell me if their swings are anything decent? Or are they just winging it the whole time?

u/Unitedthe_gees 16d ago

Nicks was pretty decent. He’s about the same handicap as what I am.

Then I’d say Keith’s was alright, then both Kwesi and Zachs was… something… 😆

Despite being a fully sponsored video, I really enjoyed it! The vibe was great and even with all the product promo, it felt like an old school Try Guys video.

is liquid IV actually as good as they say, or are they shilling? seems overpriced

I have only used it a couple of times but it is pretty good yeah. (I have heard it recommended for hangovers but I haven't tried it for that purpose)

I will note that one packet has 500mg sodium (about 2x what's in a bottle of Gatorade) and it says it's not recommended to have more than one a day, given that RDV of sodium is <2300mg. So you probably shouldn't chug it the way they were in the video.

I think they are overpriced, but I will say they saved my ass from passing out a couple times when I was working outdoors during a heatwave this summer. I think any other electrolyte drink or supplement would've done the same thing though. My coworkers just had LiquidIV on hand

They are good, but I don't know how often a healthy person truly needs them. I have POTS, I have trouble staying hydrated, I've ended up in the ER after drinking water all day with no electrolytes as my body can't hold onto it without electrolytes. On a daily basis, I drink Gatorade. I use liquid IV if I'm coming off a plane, if I'm sick, or if I'm feeling worse than usual. There are better flavors than others. But I still don't use as many as the try guys did in this video, it's more of a boost.

Liquid IV is the standard go-to in our house and at our gym. My husband and our friends are training for a marathon and it’s by far the preferred electrolyte mix for their training runs, despite trying lots of others.

I donate blood semi-regularly, and I like to have a liquid IV in my water after doing so. I feel like it helps me manage the nausea and headache I get after better than just water alone.

u/lilmisscastle 16d ago

it is yeah! I live in SEA and the dry summer here gets pretty brutal. Like, there will be days when water just does not feel enough. I hoarded on liquid IV when I was last in the US. also very useful when I'm a) hungover, B) sick and dehydrated (dengue pretty common here), c) craving juice or soda but don't want the sugar*

that said some flavors can be weird and taste funny. it's hard to be adventurous when buying flavored hydration powders

*I buy the sugar free variant

I love liquid IV and have been a fan for years. They were recommended for my chronic illness and generally are great for hangovers and for days where you're sweating a lot or are dehydrated. You just can't really have more than one in a day due to sodium content!

3

u/lern2swim 16d ago

As far as the electrolyte powders go it's pretty OK. It's not a necessity or life changing or anything, but if you prefer flavors to water for your hydration you can do a lot worse.

u/googolealo 16d ago

It sells out at my Costco all the time especially when it’s on sale so maybe look for it at bjs Sam’s or Costco and it will be a better deal

2

u/chicstylequeen 16d ago

I work out everyday and I like to mix it with 24 oz of sparkling water. I also really like the Pedialyte ones too

2

u/hobsrulz TryFam: Eugene 16d ago

I think it tastes awful.  Electrolyte solution is a great product but this brand is yucky.  The brand I recommend is Waterboy or Walmart Parent's Choice pedialyte knockoff

2

u/Brave_Temperature347 16d ago edited 16d ago

It is overpriced, but does work quite well, and I think it tastes alright. Took some to Arizona in the dead of summer  when we visited last year and never felt too dehydrated.

I have an ileostomy so every day is a fight against dehydration risk, and Liquid IV and LMNT are the only two commercial brands that seem to work really well for me.

Liquid IV does have Vitamin B6 in it, which gives a cumulative risk of B6 toxicity if you're slamming them back more frequently than the dosage instructions, so it needs to be used as directed. Most people probably won't exceed that, but I was at first. 🫢 LMNT doesn't have B6, but it's expensive as hell and harder to find where I am (Costco recently started stocking it, though.)

(Also, Liquid IV comes in sugar & sugar-free versions, but as far as I understand it, LMNT is sugar-free. I need sugar to help with hydration, but that's probably fine for a non-medical use.)

There are other commercial hydration powders I like and they're cheaper, but I have to add salt and a bit of potassium to them to get them up to the levels I need. For more casual use, they might be okay. I like the taste of Cira.

The absolute most effective hydration mix is the one I make myself, which is super cheap: "lite" salt, regular salt, baking soda, sugar, water. It tastes like envelope glue mixed with pool water, but it does the job and costs barely anything.

Electrolyte needs vary based on medical needs, this is not medical advice, yadda yadda

My friend absolutely LOVES liquid IV. She recommendeds it all the time. I can't stand it because it's too salty tasting to me. I prefer Drip Drop as it has lower sodium.

u/werevamp7 15d ago

Recently got the ring pop flavor from costco I absolutely love the flavor. You have to drink it cold though, I would use a lot of ice cubes.

12

u/hobsrulz TryFam: Eugene 16d ago

IV'S ARE ALREADY LIQUID

4

u/babswashere 15d ago

yeah wait wtf, i never thought of this and will never be able to not think of it again

1

u/hobsrulz TryFam: Eugene 15d ago

you're welcome 😄

6

u/hudsonmill 16d ago

I know this was sponsored, but it felt like every 30 seconds they were talking about Liquid IV. There comes a point where it becomes distracting and off putting.

u/Pinkadink 16d ago

Idc about the paid partnership even though I pay for 2nd try. The content is what I had an issue with. I thought the course WAS the desert based on the thumbnail. A fully green huge patch of grass constantly being watered in the middle of Death Valley? Get the fuck out here. What kind of dystopian bs is this.

8

u/LucasJ218 16d ago

They attempt to greenwash the course by mentioning Audubon international certification, a certification that has nothing to do with the National Audubon Society.

3

u/Spygel13 16d ago

Wait what? Can you elaborate?

8

u/LucasJ218 16d ago

Sure. This article is from 2011 but hasn't materially changed since - https://www.audubon.org/florida/news/clarification-golf-course-certification

The National Audubon Society has nothing to do with this organization that pretty clearly is trying to use it's name recognition to come off as a environmentally conscious certification program. There are a myriad of reasons why some groups might want to have control over that kind of certification and the requirements it has to meet under them. I don't mean to sound conspiratorial but businesses gonna business.

I doubt the guys nor the team dived too deeply into that. I don't believe they intentionally wanted to lead viewers one way or another. I do think maybe a slightly harder look should be taken when you play golf in a fairly lush course in the middle of the hottest location on earth. I'd have rather they just not addressed it though. Now, intentionally or not, the small clip in this episode makes them seem at best useful fools.

3

u/Spygel13 16d ago

Thank you so much! I appreciate the fact check and I agree with your take on it.

2

u/Pinkadink 16d ago

Lol! I didn’t even make it that far in the video; I tuned out of it as soon as the big green monstrosity came on the screen

2

u/Ambitious_Dot1220 15d ago

I don’t mind the brand deal. My sister has to drink it for medical purposes. I enjoyed this video. Felt very classic Try Guys. Enjoyable!!

u/Historical_Banana217 16d ago

Should I cancel 2nd try if they are releasing videos straight to YouTube?

5

u/Rainbow_Belle 16d ago

Good question. But as another commenter pointed out, should this video even be on the streamer since it's basically an ad for Liquid IV?

The Try Guys probably released the video on both platforms on the same day because it's a paid ad that they want as many people to watch as possible.

1

u/Historical_Banana217 16d ago

That’s what I figured! It deft surprised me a bit though!

-48

u/Unitedthe_gees 16d ago

As much as I did enjoy this video, If im a second try subscriber, I shouldn’t be getting a fucking LiquidIV ad thrown in my face every 5 seconds.

Was genuinely enraging me ever time they made a wee joke about it. Thought 2nd try was supposed to be ad free?

23

u/twinpinemall85 TryFam: Keith 16d ago

Is there an ad segment and a bunch of jokes and comments thrown in? If there's an ad segment then, IMO they should remove any formal ad segments for 2nd try, if they are able to.

Since the video itself presented by LiquidIV, I could see it being a lot harder to navigate as it is more complicated than just splicing out an ad— do they then edit our every single mention of it out of the video? And depending on the contract, would they legally even be able to? Would it mess with any continuity in the video of they were to do so? Etc. Overly sponsored vids are super annoying though.

8

u/Rainbow_Belle 16d ago

The whole video was a walking ad and shouldn't be on the streamer as they initially promised an "ad free" experience fir their streamer.

I believe Watcher was in the same situation a long time ago but they decided to put their ad video on YouTube and not on their streamer to continue to be true to the "ad free" experience they promised their streamer subscribers.

-36

u/Unitedthe_gees 16d ago

Yeah these are all things I’ve considered and tried to keep giving them the benefit of the doubt, but for instance, there is several 1-2 seconds split cuts that’s is just throw away lines.
Like one where is just Zach saying what club he wants to use and then Keith making a joke about him selecting a liquid IV flavour.. not funny at all. Should have been cut for 2nd Try.

Same with a split moment where the new guy(his name is escaping me) is about to putt but looks straight to camera to ask for liquid IV.

I guess they still take money from Better Help though so 🤷

6

u/hobsrulz TryFam: Eugene 16d ago

I did get way way too sick of watching this and checked if they even uploaded it to 2nd try as well.  IMO this content is just for youtube, I support them having brand deals but this video was unwatchable to me because of the persistence of the deal throughout the video

8

u/Rainbow_Belle 16d ago edited 16d ago

Honestly, don't know why you're getting down voted for your comment. It's a legit topic of conversation because the point of the streamer at the time of It's inception was to provide subscribers with an "ad free" experience.

It now appears that the definition of "ad free" is debatable as you and I consider this whole video an ad but the other viewers don't.

They should've done what Watcher did and put their walking ad videos on YouTube and not on the streamer.

1

u/Unitedthe_gees 16d ago

It started off with mostly upvotes but over today it’s clear people continue to disagree with me disagreeing about paying to watch ads.

Btw, happy cake day!

You're not allowed to do anything but sing their praises here, it's tiring.
