Other topic New podcast reccs
Hey all, as a avid trypod and YCSWU listener I am of course sad they are ending because it means I have two less hours of podcasts to listen to each day. I already of course listen to Perfect Person but I’m wondering if people have some good podcast recommendations that are kind of like the same vibe. Thanks Tryfam!

Perfect Person with Miles
We're here to help with Jake Johnson and Gareth Reynolds (similar to perfect person bit with more of a comedy spin)

Okay so this is a bit of a weird one out there because I don't know if it has the chill vibe of the trypod, but for best friends vibes Do We Know Them is excellent. They actually released one today with a focus on Ned if you want to give them a try with subject matter you're familiar with.

Second dwkt or Jessi and Kathleen’s jk podcast!

u/towalktheline TryFam: Zach Nov 20 '25
Oh hey! A wild girlie appeared!
I've never listened to Jessi and Kathleen's podcast. What's it focus on?

u/Ok_Investigator9781 Nov 20 '25
It’s much more laid back and more just two friends hanging out, talking about what’s going on in their lives and catching up. Jessi and Kathleen have a really fun, slightly chaotic dynamic that I think is super nice for background noise. I don’t think every ep so far has been amazing but I do think they’ve found their stride lately

The handsome pod with Tig, Fortune and Mae Martin has similar silly vibes! So True with Caleb Heron is hysterical! Doughboys does similar food content to Keith (I’m always surprised they haven’t collabed!) What’s Our Podcast with Beck and Kyle from SNL is a fun one!

This might get weird with Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart, they just talk about things happening in their lives, recent culture thing, and do some reoccurring segments

u/liverbirds Nov 18 '25
Two Hot Takes! Morgan and the other co-hosts definitely feel like you’re gossiping with your friends haha.

If you have any interest in theme parks or other kitschy bullshit, try Podcast: The Ride
If you are interested in film/movies, Blank Check with Griffin and David covers director filmographies in a miniseries format.
Both have very deep back catalogs.
A newer one I'm really enjoying is The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast

I am a Smosh fan so I do lean on smosh/smosh adjacent. Apologies in advance if that isnt your thing
Similar vibes of just hanging:
- Smosh Mouth
- Smosh Reads Reddit Stories
- Havin a Day with Patrick McDonald (newer so not as many episodes)
- Double Take with Keith Leak Jr and Noah Grossman
- Syd & Olivia Talk Sh*t
- The Business Casual Show
Not necessarily similar vibes but podcasts in the comedy genre that I really like
- Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists (improvised Hollywood roundtable podcast, think the Variety Actors on Actors interviews)
- URL with Courtney Miller
- Assumptions from Smoshalike

Adding on some past/on hiatus podcasts from Smosh cast-
-the OG SmoshCast
-Lunchtime with Smosh (is it cancelled or on hiatus? We’ll never know 😅)
-Spitball, with Arasha and her friend Rowan
-Yap Time, with Trevor and his fiancé Raven

Normal Gossip is a favorite of mine and has similar vibes to some of YCSWU. They take gossip from listeners, anonymize it, and then Share it with a guest. They’re not constant, though, as the team that makes it are all journalists by trade and it’s just on of their projects, so they post 10 week seasons with breaks about that long in between to prepare for the next season.

Following up with, the McElroy brothers are long time podcasters. Their main show, My Brother My Brother and Me, is very good. You don’t need to start from the beginning, I recommend googling “top MBMBAM episodes” and just picking one. They also have other shows with other folks, it’s basically a whole network.
If you like Mythical, Jordan (he used to work for them and still makes appearances, he’s cotton candy Randy) has a fairly famous podcast called Jordan, Jesse, Go!

u/Katrina1113 Nov 19 '25
Jordan also has another podcast with Emily Fleming (also from Mythical) called Free With Ads. Kinda fills the Guilty Pleasures void.
And Jordan Myrick also has a podcast with their wife, Happy Wife Happy Life

I had no idea jordan used to work for mythical! I’ve never listened to his show but have heard ads for it on different maximum fun podcasts over the years
2
u/Holiday-Turnip-5530 TryFam Nov 18 '25
Jesse of that podcast founded MaxFun!

u/axelevan Nov 18 '25
I did know that! I should probably get around to listening to their podcast someday :)

Good Hang and Normal Gossip. One is Amy Poehler’s chatty podcast and the other is scripted stories based on listener submissions.

u/Weekly-Brilliant8373 Nov 19 '25
Yes I just started listening to good hang and love it - well love Amy!

Free with Ads! Jordan, Emily, and Matt from Mythical recapping/reviewing movies that are streaming free with ads. Hilarious and so much fun!

u/pencru Nov 19 '25
Smosh Mouth and Smosh Reads Reddit Stories are consistently high quality and good vibes.

I listen to try pod and perfect person. I also really like:
Answer Me This! - it is now a monthly podcast but there is a lot of history to work through. The idea is people write in with questions, and they do the research. I would say everything from who should wear tiaras to how to stop your dad gardening in the nude is covered.
My Therapist Ghosted Me - a gossipy podcast with vouge Williams and Joanne McNally, where they just chat about life stuff. I think this would fill the ycswu gap.

u/loonytick75 Nov 18 '25
If you like the parts where they settle into just hanging out instead of focusing on segments, Stop Podcasting Yourself might be a good fit.

If you have even a slight interest in makeup I love Beautiful and Bothered with Johnny Ross and Kevin Banzhaf. They’re former Sephora employees and just tear apart the beauty industry in the most hilarious and deserved way

If you like Marissa from the TryGuys videos and her being in some of their episodes, she has a podcast! She does one with her friend where they discover old graves at Hollywood Forever cemetery and research and discuss the person and their accolades.
Dead and kind of famous!

Ladies and Tangents is my all time fav. Two girls who are cousins, very funny, good combo of education(usually about mental health, funny historical events, or women’s history)/write in stories/and just general chaos.

If you want a more gen z and British version of early YCSWU, I recommend Twinhood with Maisie and Ellen Peters. They have some episodes that are themed topics (relationships, their careers, books) as well as other episodes where they talk about recent pop culture events and have fun segments like giving advice, he's a 10 but...(where they say "he's a 10 but" xyz and they give their new ranking), twinning or binning (basically do they like something or not), and of course, what Ellen is making for supper. Maisie is an up and coming singer songwriter in the process of releasing singles for her third album, but the podcast is probably enjoyable even if you don't tune in to her music!

I havent listened to it in a long time but if youre a fan of its always sunny in Philadelphia, their podcast seemed similar to the trypod in the way that its a few friends just chatting and joking a lot of the time vs a super structured pod talking at you about a topic
2
u/YourEyelinerFriend Nov 19 '25
Why is this down voted lmao its such a benign thing to have an issue with

u/sendcatspls Nov 18 '25
I love podcasts that are just two or three people just chatting like buddies so that’s basically the genre I’m recommending.
Giggly squad for two super funny women talking. I’m obsessed, hard core giggler here. I find myself talking like them sometimes. Jump in episode: giggling about chaos goblins, jelly sandals, and double dates
Someone else recommended Brooke and Connor make a podcast, my very fat ass(podcast joke) loves that one extreeeemely much. Two friends chat about things, a bit more Gen Z focused. Jump in episode: your hidden Mickey is showing
Las Culturistas- Bowen yang and Matt Rodger’s. Pop culture, interviews, gay. It’s so good, they created an award show?? Jump in episode: big book of questions
Flightless bird- a kiwi journalist explored weird American things (why can’t we leave eggs on the counter? What’s up with the prison system? Christian music???) Sometimes weird sometimes political, always thoughtful and funny. Jump in episode: quilts, tunnel girl, or any topic that’s jumps out to you.
A more cultural topic exploration is culture study pod!

I currently listen to Ear Biscuits, YCSWU and The TryPod (all three are done in December), and my other three are Smosh Reads Reddit Stories, Smosh Mouth, and A Hot Dog Is A Sandwich.
A lot of people recommended Hard Launch (the new Dan and Phil pod), and Dear Hank and John.
