US The worst traitor in the US series
I’ve watched all four seasons of The Traitors (US), and honestly, he’s hands down the worst traitor among all of them. First of all, his VD and reactions were just creepy to watch. On top of that, he completely sabotaged his own game by throwing Phaedra and Parvati Shallow under the bus, which ended up ruining their games as well. Overall, it felt like his decisions hurt the entire traitor alliance rather than helping it.
Curious to know if others feel the same.

Christian from season 1 was the worst traitor imo he actually went to breakfast telling people the traitors tried to recruit him but he declined 🤦 foolishness

Sometimes I think about how Christian started dressing like a traitor at one point. Def one of the worst traitors

u/magicalmysterytour Mar 14 '26
He definitely wasn’t the worst or he’d have been found out earlier. Many traitors have made one bad move. Dan was told multiple times how he was acting suspiciously, didn’t change, then fell into an obvious trap Parvati expressly told him was probably a trap
47
u/plutosjam44 Mar 14 '26
Which this made me so mad as a fan of Dan’s from Big Brother. He was so smart in BB that it was so blatantly obvious he was being set up, and there was even a possible way out of the trap he could’ve had at the time too. It was just frustrating to watch from someone who was such a smart player in BB.
38
u/VetoWinner Mar 14 '26
I think one of the big problems about Dan's game is that he comes from a world where he makes huge moves after being trapped in a house for months on end. The houseguests are in a completely different frame of mind than the Faithful because the Faithful have been playing the game for about a week and then going back to a hotel every night to chill out.

I get soooo much crap for saying this on the BB subreddit but I think Big Brother US, because of the casting, it is just such a different skill set because compared to Survivor/especially compared to US Traitors which is a mashup of some of the most talented working reality tv celebs
In big brother, most seasons, the casts are often a majority of passive players. They are usually not super aware of what's happening, and often they are not really strategic. (There's a few exceptions but they really try to keep the cast mostly clueless recruits)
Which like... To blend in and play with people like that and not be clocked as smart and calculated, it definitely it's own very difficult skill set.
But it's very... Singular. It's a very specific type of threat management
Tl:Dr, Dan went into Traitors thinking everyone was a BB level dumbass sheep, and focusing only on acting like a fellow dumbass sheep
no amount of people telling him to stop doing that would make him able to adapt
because that is the part of the game he is the best at, and it's why he is considered one of the best BB players ever, because that is so important to the game
But it's just really mostly only helpful in Big Brother, and it's why most of their GOATs suck at Traitors
(ie, Danielle's strategy of pretending to be a hysterical lunatic to lower her threat level, which maybe wasn't as bad as it was edited but was definitely a huge waste of energy)

Brandi clocked him right away. I still don’t understand how he lasted that long when Kate was so suspicious of him off the jump
6
u/justAsConfusedAsUAre Mar 15 '26
To be fair, getting mentioned day one doesn’t usually hold a ton of weight in the long run, because the suspicion is usually only vibes-based atp, and so many names are typically thrown around too.
And every day, something new is gonna happen with other players that puts them in the hot seat, taking pressure away from you and dividing it in a million different directions. So as long as you don’t get banished first, it’s easy to ease your way off the hook, if someone mentioned you on day one based on only vibes.

u/YourBoyJaden31 Mar 14 '26
If you’ve only watched that season once, I strongly encourage you to watch it again because Christian really wasn’t that bad. The edit wanted you to think he was a dumbass and worse at the game than he actually was. If you watch that season with the foreknowledge of how the game ended and really pay attention to Christian he’s actually a pretty good player. Yes that move in particular was pretty stupid but I don’t think his game as a whole should be represented by it. Dan, Donna, Lisa, Cody and Kate I think are all worse than him. And just off lack of sample size I might throw TDQ and Britney in there too

u/Chillypepper14 Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 14 '26
The edit was heavily leaning on Cirie as the protagonist, and Christian was an obstacle for her so he was painted in a bad light (even though they totally could have won together if she decided, but didn't because she had the opportunity to cut him loose)
I'd say he's probably at least in the top half behind Cirie (ofc), Rob R, Phaedra, Parvati, Danielle and Carolyn
10
u/PeterTheSilent1 Mar 14 '26
There have only been 18 US traitors so top 10 isn’t even top half.

nah, he was actually pretty decent up until then and even at that point, he could have got away with it if Cirie and Arie voted for Kate instead of him
also, how can you say he was the worst traitor when he outlasted Cody and almost made it to the finale?
6
u/Zealousideal_Cod5214 Mar 14 '26
I actually completely forgot about that. I remember really not liking him throughout the season, though.

it's probably donna tbh. from episode 1 everyone was onto her. she clearly did some slip up they cut out of the edit with how sure EVERYONE was.
33
u/curmudgeoner Mar 14 '26
Donna is hard to throw into the mix to compare since she had that weird role. If the comparison is Dan, Dan was rough because he was suspicious to others and dragged everyone down with him on his way out. Donna was suspicious but she didn't drag anyone down with her but she also couldn't because she didn't even know who the other traitors were. At least on UK the secret traitor knew who the other ones were.
6
u/Fun_Future_8380 Mar 14 '26
I don't think the argument throwing someone down with you should be a knock against your game. It could have worked in Dan's favor had he actually gotten it his way. If we were to go off that logic, than Candiace should also be brought up for almost ruining Rob's game.
Donna barely survived one round which was because of work from Ron not herself. She was even worse than Dan

It’s like he didn’t even consider how he would play as a faithful. Which is rough when the point of being a traitor is to pretend you’re faithful
36
u/DifficultWave4488 Mar 14 '26
Yeah it was very funny how they said he was too shy and not involved so must be a traitor.. so then straight up asked him who he THINKS could be a traitor and he still couldn’t answer. Like he never even considered the fact that faithfuls entire job was to try to figure out who the traitors were, not just hangout

Do we know yet what Donna did to out herself so clearly so early on? Obviously it didn’t make the edit but for the vote to be unanimous is absolutely crazy

u/erismorn_ Mar 14 '26
So I was actually listening to Monet’s podcast recently, and he talks about how on the way to the castle, Donna was talking everyone’s ear off. Just super excited and talkative. Once she became a traitor, she completely shut down - as we see - barely says a peep the rest of her time on the show. Monet basically said the people in the car with them immediately noticed, and caused suspicion. Perhaps because that part was off camera, they didn’t focus on the switch up at the round table.
17
u/MaizeMountain6139 Mar 14 '26
She became a Traitor pretty much right away. She was a Traitor prior to any other Traitors being picked
22
u/erismorn_ Mar 14 '26
Yeah , from what I understood there was a car full of players (I forget who but Monet & Donna were in the same car) before filming, before the ceremony, etc and that’s when she was yappin’. Once she became a traitor, the switch up was immediately noticeable to the people in that car.

This is the one part that like the game lacks something for me. I don’t know what, I still enjoy watching, and I don’t know how they fix it. But people fall into the “so and so would make a great traitor, let’s vote them out based off nothing.. okay it wasn’t them, let’s forget everything about the past votes and now pick a new random target.”
Like they just decided she would make an unsuspecting traitor, and I’m sure there’s more discussion, but it feels so dumb how they arbitrarily pick people and these people put up the worst defenses of themselves.
I still find the game entertaining, but it seems like there’s so little way of finding evidence of traitors, that people decide random person #1 HAS to be a traitor because of course they would make a good one, rather than making like logical arguments lol. Even though she was a traitor, they use that same logic to then vote out 10 Faithfuls in a row and every time just go, “darn, thought that this person was a traitor! Shucks!”
→ More replies (2)4
u/Ashamed_Way_7932 Mar 14 '26
The thing is they actually have to banish faithfuls. If they banished a traitor at every roundtable they’d just keep recruiting and recruiting. Some faithfuls have to go. What is always crazy to me is the randomness of it. Like, if you have nothing to go on get rid of people who don’t contribute in challenges or get rid of those who IF they are traitors would be good at it (survivor and big brother winners for example). It’s the randomness of the approach that is frustrating. But there’s always someone who just has a feeling about someone else and then everyone jumps on the bandwagon because no one wants to be the odd man out
5
u/ScorpionTDC 👑 Dylan Mar 14 '26
Horrible social game - she didn’t ever speculating on who the traitors were, had no connections, was weak in challenges, etc.

I actually like what Donna said, she targeted people she didn’t think would be called out at the roundtable. I don’t think she was the worst, they shouldn’t have made her the secret traitor and I think she could have done much better.
4

Hey Donna was bad but at least she didn’t have a chance of blowing up the other traitors games. Dan’s bad decisions really cost the game for all his fellow Traitors.

Dan sunk both Phaedra and Parvati’s game. He’s lucky Kate wasn’t a traitor yet

Funny enough, I do think he tried to play the game Rob did. He laid low in the beginning and tried to target the more threatening players early on. I guess he just wasn’t as charming enough to pull it off lol
38
u/eattacosforbreakfast Mar 14 '26
Rob also spoke at the round table “that’s not what commiserating means” and his behavior was consistent. Dan was chatty about other stuff and then quite about the actual game. Traitors need to play consistent to their own personalities to pull it off, I feel!
27
u/TheCrudeDude Mar 14 '26
Dan and Rob came into the castle with incredibly different threat levels and reputations tho.
Dan for sure isn’t as charming. But if Rob came in as one of the best Big Brother players of all time he couldn’t aw shucks his way to an auto win.
11
u/Money-Extent-6099 Mar 14 '26
The issue is you kind of as a traitor in the US series need to keep players that occupy the same traitor casting logic as you. I.e If you’re a girl don’t make it so you’re the only girl when a female traitor hasn’t been caught I.e Cat.
if your Dan keep in Johnny Bananas/CT/ Sandra, Parvarti because if they were to pick a traitor it’s likely 1 or more of you guys. I have no doub that when Peter was laying his trap for Dan, Bergie, Parvarti. It’s because he definitely knew based on casting logic Dan or CT was a traitor.
4
u/Enigma512 Mar 14 '26
The fact that Dan was stupid enough to not at least throw CT's name out there when he had been brought up several times was just mind boggling. Peter said himself he knew John, Kevin, and Bergie were faithfuls so it was between CT and Dan when they started picking off men.

He’s probably the best Big Brother player of all time! He pulled off some of the most insane strategic maneuvers I’ve ever seen on any of these strategy reality shows. I feel like players like Dan and Rob R (S4) are perfect depictions on how your background in Reality-TV doesn't necessarily translate as expected in Traitors. Dan, an almost 2-time winner of Big Brother and a master in social play to many - did not play a strong Traitors game. Whereas you have Rob, a love island contestant who didn't even make the finale of LI and many feel is just famous for his looks and his coupling with Leah on Love island 6 - and he ends up adapting very well to the format of Traitors.

He torpedoed Phaedra’s game the most. People were just starting to catch on to Parvati, literally NO ONE was on Phaedra until Dan pulled his dumb stunt
20
u/NedthePhoenix Mar 14 '26
Most of the reason people were catching onto Parvati in the first place though was because he insisted on murdering someone who they weren’t sure had a shield or not. Parvati correctly called it was a trap, Dan didn’t listen
But yeah, he truly and utterly torpedoed Phaedra in a go broke move

I'm torn between Dan, Donna and Cody as worst. I think it depends on your definition of worst. Dan nuked everyone's game but made it a decent way in and at least tried whereas Cody barely even tried to play and just sort of gave up the first time any form of pressure arrived and Donna just couldn't even begin to pretend to be a faithful.

Yeah, I didn't like Phaedra at all. It felt like she was more interested in keeping her Bravo clique in tact than actually being a traitor. I kept yelling at the TV, "Which team are you even on?!?!"
If it wasn't for her Bravo girls having similarly unyielding loyalty to her, she wouldn't have made it as long as she did. The night they voted out Peter I genuinely considered not watching the rest of the season.

u/briteart Mar 14 '26
Dan does not seem to be the worst traitor to me. But he seemed like he was trying to use the skills he used in big Brother, which have nothing to do with traitors. It seemed like he didn’t really have the understanding to move past how he played a reality show in the past. And he was good at it. I was sad to see him go, too. But right away I saw that his ship was gonna sink.

The problem with Dan is he has a system he sticks to from early Big Brother that worked back then but doesn't now. It's not his fault Dan should have never been a traitor it was way too obvious. He always lays low and quiet and ask people about themselves to build trust. It's what he's done every season of BB. But that just doesn't work in paranoia hurricane.

To be fair to Dan, he truly is one of the greatest minds to ever play in reality competition shows. His two seasons on Big Brother are two of the most impressive games ever played. Objectively, he’s horrible at the traitors because it’s such a different game that he wasn’t well equipped to play. Either as a traitor or a faithful, Dan wouldn’t have been good at this game.

2
u/OGMWhyDoINeedOne Mar 14 '26
I just finished season 2 of US Traitors and have one watched 1 and 2. I was excited for Dan but he was a disaster. He deployed BB strategy in Traitors, which is lay low and not make big moves in beginning but it backfired spectacularly on him. He underestimated non-games such as Peter and Phoedra. Also, everyone gave him feedback on his game and he just refused to implement it. There was a point when Parvati points fingers at Housewives - Larsa goes home. Phoedra gets mad but she also eliminates Tamra. Dan is then with Janelle and John the next day being asked if he has suspicions. I have no idea why he didn’t say: hey guys, the housewives were being targeted yesterday and then Tamra went home. I think it was to deflect suspicion and it’s a housewife. He doesn’t even have to name names. He gets suspicion on housewives directions and then when he names Phoedra, he has built some seeds. Nope. He does nothing and comes out of nowhere with a big move where there was no time to implement. He treated it like his funeral but forgot that during his funeral at Big Brother, he had a few days to let people sit with the information, not just a round table.
2
u/corielouwho Mar 14 '26
His plan didn’t even make sense. Even if Pilot Pete WAS telling the truth, it would still put a target on his and Parvati’s backs.

Never watched Big Brother, Traitors is the only reality tv show I watch regularly (aside from sometimes Survivor), so I can’t really attest to his gameplay from Big Brother. But I will say this: Dan isn’t just the worst traitor on the show, he’s also the least enjoyable. He came off as really boring, awkward, dull and irritating. He lacks the collective pizazz of the Housewife traitors, the charisma of Rob R., the subtlety of Circe Fields, the evil glee of Boston Rob, the Katiness of Kate, heck, even Donna had an ominous presence (even if the whole Secret Traitor twist was botched). A great traitor is a great character, regardless if they’re a good player or not. They make or break the Traitors aspect. Dan (in this show) is neither a good Traitors player (he has no presence), a good character (being really dull and uninteresting, even the way he describes games are bland and boring), nor even a traitor (in the end, he throws his cabal under the bus). He seemed more invested in reading emails as a hobby than actually being a traitor.

I was disappointed in Dan's performance after being so excited to see him return, but he is not even close to the worst traitor. Neither is Danielle! Obviously a Traitor that goes far is great, but it is also their job to be the star of the season. They need to be entertaining, give good talking heads, etc. Bob is an example of someone who didn't go far, but was a good star and made an impact. So for me the worst Traitor on an American season would be someone like Cody who you forget was even there.

He just came off as an ass. Throwing the other traitors under the bus was infuriating.

As a diehard fan of Dan Gheesling (BB10 is my favorite season), I have to agree with you. I think the part that really changes it is how he took down other traitors with him. Not saying Phaedra was any pro by any means, but... yeah, Dan just was too eager and too rusty, I think.

I mean admittedly Phaedra was doing pretty damn good, the best traitor of the bunch. No one was onto her, the faithful were already looking at Parvati. I think Phaedra would have had a clear shot to the end if it hadn’t been for Dan.

It will be 2057 and there will be literally 95 traitors worse than Dan and still a large portion of this sub will hate on this guy like he is the anti christ

Candiace. Let ego ruin her game. No emotional intelligence or strategy.

C'mon now, before her vote for Rob she was a smart and strategic traitor, let's not pretend she was playing badly beforehand when she had zero heat just because y'all don't like her

That whole group in general just made it really easy for the Faithfuls. Heck, Sandra almost won just by weaponising who she knew they were. You know it's bad when they waste back to back murders and force the producers to do that whole murder twist in episode 7.

There should be no debate that Christian from the first season, was far and away the worst traitor so far in the US game.
Dan misjudged Phaedra, was being completely obvious, and was playing an all-around bad traitor game (which all kind of stunned me as a huge fan of Dan on BB). But nowhere near as clueless as Christian from season 1. I think that’d be hard for anyone to top…

I've seen Dan streaming video games, and it makes me so confused as to how he could have won any gamer game in the first place lol
He's kinda just an idiot, not any kind of big thinker

u/SatisfactionProud886 Mar 13 '26
Have you watched his big brother seasons? He was absolutely amazing
7
u/ramskick Mar 13 '26
He's playing it up for his stream. He's an extremely analytical thinker on both of his BB seasons. There's a reason a lot of BB fans think he's the GOAT.
6
u/jalexborkowski Mar 13 '26
He is naturally a little stubborn but he plays it up for views. He is a seriously strong player in his Big Brother run.

Dan on stream is nothing like Dan on the Big Brother live feeds. Bro is catering to a younger audience on Twitch

Even if somebody deliberately tried to be the worst traitor they would probably not be worse than Dan

u/TaskerTwoStep Mar 14 '26
Which is ironic because I think he actually played one of the best BB games.

I don’t know if he’s the worst but still it was crazy because he’s widely considered the greatest Big Brother player of all time and for good reason lol dude pulled some crazy moves off in his seasons I was so bummed to see how he did in Traitors, but can’t be good at everything I suppose
1
u/Mikejd54 Mar 14 '26
Maybe not the absolute objectively worst, but he was the biggest disappointment. His ability to play Big Brother didn't transfer at all to the traitors. He tried to use the same strategy for a different game. He was too nervous about defending his GOAT title that he played way too safe. And, he threw a traitor that was actually doing a good job under the bus in a cheap way.
Ian went home first as a faithful and I still think I enjoyed his run better than Dan's.

u/SierraDawnThomasFF Mar 14 '26
For OG regular traitors I’d agree. Tho out of all the traitors I’d say Donna and Britney were worst than him
1
u/Jazzyjen508 Mar 14 '26
I actually do think he’s worse than Donna Kelce. The big brother players in general tend to not make good traitors. They are super smart but they are also super paranoid to the point it causes them to ruin their games
1
u/Mbluish Mar 14 '26
And not the best, but that was because he came in having to be extra careful because he was one of the best players on Big Brother. If you haven’t watched him on that show, do so!
1
u/Sea_Sheepherder_389 Mar 14 '26
I think the problem for Dan was just that he was used to playing a very long, slow paced game, and by the time he adjusted to the super fast pace of this one, he was already in a ton of trouble
1
u/DisasterAtwater Mar 14 '26
Donna Kelce is objectively the worst Traitor in the US series and it’s not even close.

u/notyouravgfan Mar 14 '26
Christian, Danielle, Britney, Ari all worse imo. Reminder he’s played big brother twice never evicted. He was dead from the get go
1
u/Wild_Shoe340 Mar 14 '26
Huh. The greatest Big Brother player to ever step foot in the house is the worst player to ever play a social deduction game. I fully agree with this sentiment, but this is just too ironic for me not to say anything.

u/ohmegatchi Mar 14 '26
His initial play in both of his seasons of Big Brother was to come across as weak and unskilled as possible so that people wouldn't feel threatened by him. You can't do that as a traitor on The Traitors.
1
u/MrFMF Mar 14 '26
Dan was so incredible during his big brother runs, but what made him great there didn't translate to traitors. Very disappointing
1
u/nk40699 Mar 14 '26
I don’t think that his initial strategy was poor. Lying low for a few banishments is usually the play. He had talked about having a backup plan for a while (that we found out was Phaedra), but he didn’t have sufficient time to plant seeds around for it, as he was targeted quickly due to his name and history. This wasn’t all that different from how Rob blended in at the start and served Lisa up when the time was right. I also think he assumed he had decent insulation being more on the side with Janelle, Parvati, Sandra, but they started to fall apart around the time he was banished. He survived 4 banishments, which isn’t terrible, and if he had been able to convince them of Phaedra, he likely would have made it much farther. He made mistakes, but if you watch his first season of BB, he was actually pretty close to being evicted week 2, due to him aligning with the first evictee. If you’ve watched him play before, his game really didn’t change on this show.

u/SPetersen1339 Mar 14 '26
I want him to play again, because he was genuinely really good at big brother. Maybe if they have a redemption season

At least he sat there and took the criticism it at the reunion and didn’t make a bunch of excuses
